UI - lets get serious here. The only conceivable advantage the default UI in WoW has over the EQ2 UI is that it’s stripped down to make it simple. You *must* use UI mods to approach what EQ2’s interface can do out of the box. Both are moddable, but WoW’s system was poorly though out and allows mods that make it very easy to create bots and mods that play the game for you.
The same can be said for the way EQ2 follows the target and turns your character to face it and that is the default UI. The WoW scripting language is very good, but had a few commands that needed to go and they did. It in no way plays the game for you as a bot though. That would be 3rd party scripting which is a plague to every game.
As long as the default UI is playable then more people will get into the game. Unless one or the other is seriously lacking funcitonality right out of the box, then why is this even being nit picked. I know the WoW default does everything essential that is needed, but its been to long since Ive seen the EQ2 default to recall.
WoW soloing is > EQ2 soloing. WoW's easier to solo to a point, but even EQ2's soloing especially since EoF has become exponentially better. Not to mention why would you pay 15 dollars a month to play by yourself? WoW epics can be gotten without raiding, in EQ2 they cannot. Uh in my experience epics in WoW only come from 'raids, the raid size has gotten smaller but its still a raid and requires alot of time to pull off. Not to mention people look down on you if you don't raid thus making it impossible at high levels to be taken seriously if you don't raid in WoW. I've never had this attitude thrown at me in EQ2 since you have more freedom to have a wide range of playstyles. WoW timesinks < EQ2 timesinks. (it feels like all mechanics in EQ2 are there to slow down progression) EQ2 has never been about reaching the end as fast as you can (that doesn't mean people don't power level). Infact EQ2 has always atleast in my opinion been about discovery and adventures. Most of the funniest ones can only be done at lower levels. If you want to reach the end but have little city rank and no crafting skills in EQ2 its certaintly possible to do it rather quickly. Atleast EQ2 has all sorts of progression thats OPTIONAL. WoW's has never been optional if you want to be taken serious by anyone. WoW PvP > EQ2 PvP. I do conceed on this one, but then EQ2 was designed as strickly a PVE game only. PVP was brought in after the demand got big enough to warrent it. Though its still more a PVE game than ever. WoW crafting accessibility > EQ2 crafting accessibility (people who normally despise crafting can actually enjoy and benefit from WoW crafting) WoW's crafting is benificial? Since when? Maybe it is a little but you can certaintly survive and flourish without ever buying a crafted item. Infact potions and enchants probably the only crafting other than 'gathering' skills thats constantly beneficial in someway. You can't even craft stuff in WoW unless you level which to me is a complete turn off to a true crafting community. You could just never leave the crafting building in EQ2 and never level yet you can still level in Crafting regardless as long as someone loaned or bought the materials for you. I always found WoW's crafting boring, just find the parts, get the pattern and hit a button and walk away. Half the stuff you make is worthless in WoW. While WoW's talent system is much more narrow than EQ2's, it still has a greater impact on a character's power in PvE and PvP. Its also incredibly imbalanced. Some builds are so worthless in WoW that if you use them you'll almost never find a group. Not to mention the balance changes every other patch, its bad enough gear becomes worthless the moment new content (cough expansions) come into play in WoW but classes and builds to do. I've never had that huge flux in power in EQ2, not that there isn't imbalance issues I just personally experience it alot less and every class build is useful. WoW rate of progression < EQ2 rate of progression (hell of a lot less grinding in WoW) What game have you been playing? End game IS nothing but grinding in WoW. Hell all MMO's are grinding just some mask it a whole lot better. I never really even consider the grinding in EQ2 grinding since your to busy having fun. I suppose this is more of a personal opinion than fact.

As I said, that’s part of the auto-attack function. You to stop it all you need to do is turn off auto attack. You can also turn off auto-facing altogether with a few mouse clicks. Personally though, I like auto-faceing on so I can center on a target simply by clicking auto-attack.

I’m not going to bother to inline these but in order:
Solo play in WoW is boring as hell. Hitting some of the mid 60’s heroic instances in EQ2 is an absolute blast.
Since there is no “Epics” in EQ2 that goes without saying. Fabled spells in EQ2 can drop of any mob, and there is plenty of Fabled & top end Legendary gear that drops outside of raids in EQ2. Top of line EQ2 PvP rewards are comparable to almost anything but Avatar loot, and on PvP servers Avatar loot means you need to be ready to fight the Avatar and any other guilds that what to stop you from killing it.
EQ2 doesn’t have much in the way of time sinks. It certainly has no WoW style faction grinds or mat grinds.
EQ2 PvP is world based WoW PvP is increasingly confined to battlegrounds, which shouldn’t even count as PvP in an MMO.
WoW “crafting” is simply a grind for mats. I don’t know of anyone who enjoys it. EQ2 has a significant community that are crafters first and foremost, something that’s completely non-existent in WoW.
As I said before EQ2’s AA’s have a lot of subtlety to them. If you know what you are doing the difference they make is enormous. The biggest current problem with PvP is level locked characters can kill multiple players with ease simply because they have more AA.
If you think WoW has less grind then EQ2 I’d have to question whether you’ve played either game. The first 30 levels in EQ2 are much faster then in WoW no matter how you play, and the next 40 will vanish if you simply find a group to explore the main dungeons with. There are a couple places where it pays off xp wise to grind, but if you want to level you would never stay in one place and kill stuff the way you do in WoW from the mid levels on.

... I think the highlighted paragraph sums up the difference the best. WoW is all about the end-game (raiding & PvP), while EQ2 is about experiencing the story and having fun. I hear of so many guilds that are focused on the weekly raid schedules in WoW. I have not heard of such phenomenon in EQ2 yet. Heck, I've played multiple characters to lvl 30+ in EQ2 and pretty much enjoyed the story for each one. Yet, I only had one character above lvl 30 in WoW, as I just couldn't stand the quest "story lines" in WoW again.
I enjoyed my time in WoW, and I get nostalgia for it every now and then. However, I still find that EQ2 beats it in enjoyability at almost every point.
EQ 2 is weak sauce. I subscribed to that game and played for two months before moving to vanguard. No offense but EQ2 would be alot better if it didn't have zones. When a game has zones unless its single player I bail because the time zoning just drives me nuts. It already takes forever to level, why burden us with zones?

I am interetsed in trying Vanguard now (wish they had a demo)...as it sounds like EQ2 with no zoning, and various tracks of play..
i dont mind the zoning....i usually hang out in 1 area until i level out of the zone or do most of the quests in it...so i dont do much zoning in a given time frame. and sorry anyone who says "weaksauce" and has a tag wow4lifer...well i think it says enough
I would give you one but i purchased it the first day it came out online and I never recieved any buddy keys. Does anyone know if you get any with the digital download?
I just hate zoning and in single player games you have to take it cause there isn't much competition. In online games i won't support it because there are games that don't have it. Plus I'll miss out on oblvion if i stay too strict with my criteria.
While I agree and disagree with many of the posts made here, I cant help but find it amusing how posts like these always seem to get the biggest response out of people here. Seems the opinion posts always get'm rolling in, while the noob help posts get looked over. I guess there isnt anything new worth saying anymore... or the EQ community isnt as helpful as ti used to be.

Yet...by reading this post, it gave some good info for the new people...barring the flamers (I did not know about horseback combat)...but, I also agree that maybe the post should have read something like...10 reasons that EQ2 is a cool MMO...or something...because we could have made it
10 Reason EQ2 is better than LOTRO...I would have so enjoyed that one..
I am interetsed in trying Vanguard now (wish they had a demo)...as it sounds like EQ2 with no zoning, and various tracks of play.. Anyone got a buddy key to loan me?...lol Cheers!
Hate to disappoint, but vanguard is not zoneless. In vanguard it is called chunking. Like many things in vanguard though it is designed where it can be improved in that the world is seamless or there are no artificial barriers that break the world into contained areas.
In vanguard you have a seamless world where you can run in any direction as far as you like. When you come to the edge of a chunk there is a 5-30 second freeze and then you continue. You can see across the seam and see mobs and players etc. But you can't get agro and a mob will not chase you. In beta they would but people would get killed chunking so that doesn't happen anymore...
However it is reasonable to expect that the chunking times will decrease in time and at some point maybe vanguard will become truely zoneless.

Cool...reminds me of LOTRO...where if you crossed a border, you would hitch or lock up...so, it would not be an issue...now how is solo play compared to grouping in VSoH....Can you level without help, and are items good enough going solo...
Zzzzz, man people are really desperate. EQ2 is an OK MMO, but nothing compared to WoW. People who write these types of post are the noobs who: 1. Can't get to level 70 because...well...they suck. Did it...but it was really boring to get there....zzzz 2. Cry because they get ganked over and over and have no skill Skill? This is SKILL LESS!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for the 300 reference...could not resist) 3. Mad because Mommy won't let them raid past 8pm because it's a school night and have all greens. Lets see 3-5 hours of my life raiding? Or maybe 1-2 hours...save out, come back and continue...more fun when it is not rammed down your throat! 4. Ninja looted an item and nobody likes them so they are all alone And why do you keep doing this to me../reported .....ZOMG!!! (Figured I would also speak in a language of the WoW players!..cause I am L33t) 5. Suck Wouldn't YOU like to know...hidden, closeted feelings getting stirred up again...I told you about this...
Give us a break, WoW owns all MMOS right now. FACE IT! QUIT WHINNING! The game is so popular this site takes it off the ranking chart. You bore me with posts like this.
How can one think one is so much better than the other is beyond me.
There are pros and cons to both games. It just seems, the target audience isn't exactly the same, so not all cons and pros will be agreed on.
As a casual gamer (played most MMOs as casual as in NOT INTEREST IN RAIDING!) both games are good, but not excellent. Persoanlly I think WoW's PvP system is its weakest part. Not because it is buggy, just because it pales in comparison to a predecessor: DAoC. i mean how hard was to just copy the PvP perfection DAoC was?
PvE, IMO, EQ1 is leagues better than both. Even though Currently I'm playing EQ2, EQ1 allowed you (or certaint casses) many options. Perhaps too many, whch led devs to make gameplay much more controlled in the newer games (EQ2 AND WoW).
I thought WoW was pretty good game, didn't like the graphics too much, too cute for me. but I liked the areas and racial towns, very EQesque. Now i thought there were too few classes and the talent tree didn't differentiate the gameplay that much. And lack of customization was a big problem. I mean, who playing mmoRPG likes to see hundred players running around who look and do things exaclt y like you?
EQ2 is a very good and complex game. Now complex is a stretch I think MMOs are very simple games, even though ppl like to say otherwise, perhaps to justify the amount of time they spent on it. I like the number of classes on EQ2. I don't like that some of them don't solo well, or at all like the Shaman (Mystic and Defiler). i don't like some of the blatant timesicks that are still in the game. i don't like the too many expansions that are almost mandatory or the zoning (it's OK but not having it is better). And I don't like that even though you can have a feel for the class before lvl20, only after lvl20 you will be able to truly experience your class.
Again, both good games. One appeals to a much wider audiance, while the other to the fans of the genre. I'll be playing EQ2 until WAR comes out. If they implement RvR like DAoC and mix a little some aspects of WoW and EQ2, it could be a huge hit.
1) Who cares? 2) EQ2's tedious, overblown crafting system is one of the reasons I quit. 3) Recasting a buff is not that big a deal. 4) Good teaming with evil is stupid as hell. 5) Selling quest items only makes it harder to find groups to quest for items. That sucks. 6) EQ2's racial abilities are beyond trivial. But I agree that non-XP achievements are cool. 7) I hate EQ2's character models. I wish WoW had more variety, but I don't hate them. 8) I don't care. 9) Having to grind guild levels is even worse than having to grind character levels. 10) Many of the classes are not all that different from each other. 11 and 12 are good. Not that I play WoW anymore, either, but EQ2 isn't a glowing bastion of RPG perfection. The biggest thing WoW has going against it is the community.
rofl and you're on a mmorpg forum because?.................................
Umm, are you saying WoW and EQ2 are the only games out there? No wonder you are still playing EQ2 if you are unaware of the existence of anything else.

Really...we don't need to argue about this. Each game is good in it's own way actually....I have enjoyed both...
Now, LOTRO? Thats another story...and I just dont have room here for a 100 things EQ2 AND WoW do better than LOTRO..
Do you not see the server populations drop ? do you not listen to anything anyone has said on here? Clearly not only are you blind, stupid and rude but are around 12 years old , so well done for staying up past your bedtime. What makes me laugh is you are the typical person that dominates the WoW community so well done for giving yourself such a good name. Why don't you make up some lies about WoW being off the scale when it doesn't even figure on this site. It's not about winning or losing there is more to life than that perhaps you will understand when you grow up, so run along now sunshine there's a good lad.
Namecalling and contradicting your own original post... so from this I should draw the conclusion that all EQ players are... what? Well I'm not gonna stoop to your lvl, suffice to say this thread is massive fail from start
All things being equal, ie if the games were more or less similar, and not going into the actual differences inthe game, the most inportant other thing is the player base, and whether you like it or not WoW has a bigger one then EQ2.
I can get into a random party for a hi level instance in less than an hour in WoW, even mid level instance, 30 to 50 lvl, 5 man parties can be found quite easily, these are mainly alts.
The last time i played EQ2 i found that i and one other(about the same level as me) were the only ones on the entire server that could party together. After a couple of days of this i quit the game and went back to WoW.
Don't know if this has change recently or not.
The life blood of any MMO is the number of players, this of course is deteremined by the game it self.

No one here is really caring how big the player base is. Personally every time I've played WoW i've found it rather hard to get into a PUG that wasn't full of morons since the larger population base means a higher chance you group with a bunch of bungling greedy idiots. Its a huge turn off for me. While i like games that have a population i could really care less if that population is over bloated with millions of players. I've never found it hard (if your on the right server in any game honestly) to find a group in EQ2 for anything. There are some dead servers in every game even wow has them. Opinions that a game sucks because you can't find a group is soley an opinion garnered from a bad server experience and not the game as a whole.
Personally WoW and its 8 million players can kiss my ass because I get tired of dealing with the 5.4 million of them that tend to be complete idiots. (just my thought on the wow is better cause there's more people theory)

Well the whole PvE thing is done pretty darn good in EQ2, though I wouldn't say stellar but then I have very high standards when it comes to that. The thing I found I intensely disliked about EQ2 though was how PvP is an afterthought. I like the BGs in WoW, and the flagable world PvP. I agree that WoW's formula is getting tiresome and they don't show much sign of wising up as far as that goes with their new xpansion pack, and I'm definitely nearing my 3rd burnout period because of the forced grouping and my play times making for difficulties in doing instance runs. In general, I'm very annoyed with the whole gear dependancy of WoW's design, and the community with its trash talking kiddie factor is wearing out my last vestige of patience. In that sense, the EQ2 community is definitely better. In an ideal world, what I would see is both EQ2 and WoW come together in a moment of inspired, mad jungle love making moment, and spawn a game with the best of both games Myself I couldn't stick with EQ2 because of the trade system, I hate having to devote a character to inscription just so I can get good skills, and in the end, that's what turned me off more than anything else. SOE mailed me a voucher that opened my account for 10 days to let me try it again, I'm tempted, but every time I think about how my Necro and my Monk would have to toil for hours to level up their trade level so to make the better inscriptions turns me off too much. But over all, I definitely understand why you like EQ2, it has a lot of elements to it that make it enjoyable that I wish WoW had.
IMO, the Only thing that EQ2 is missing is decent BG. It does have Arenas for those that don't know. The issue is that many EQII players don't know it either -- they suck. At least because no one ever uses them they suck more then they might otherwise.
On the other hand, not having BGs keeps out a lot of issues like class balance, obnoxious folks that have to tell you how awesome they are because they PVP non-stop (somehow they figure that makes them more of a man then those that like to quest, raid, or otherwise PVE -- nonesense).
The primary reason I left Wow was the BGs. While they were a ball of fun to play with while leveling up. Once you hit max level they become (or did when I played) jokes. Only those that could PVP every single day and raid for equipment non-stop stood a real chance. And the mentality of players was always hostile unless you were their group-mate / guildie.
So all in all I am pretty happy with EQ2. Even if I only ever PVE there.

EQ2 is more of a challenge the moment you get high enough to start leaving the cities. Not to mention there's a ton of quests that are all about learning about the world's history, creature lore and more. WoW does have a little bit of but no where on the scale that EQ2's has.
There's just alot more variance in the content in EQ2 than wow I think thats the reason EQ2's community is vastly different from the WoW fanboi crowded communities. WoW's majority is all about showing off and all about getting right to the end game where all the 'meat' of the game really exists. EQ2 has 'meaty' content all through out. Its not something those who are more into the end of a game can really appreciate. I mean its an MMO whats the point of rushing to the end?? Isn't a MMO supposed to go on forever?
WoW and EQ2 both have good points and bad points but in my personal opinion my true MMO love has to go to EQ2. EQ2 gives you and its community give you the option to play anyway you want. WoW's never had that option its probably the most linear MMO I've ever played.
Personally threads like this just scream silly arguments. I could see if EQ2 and WoW had the exact same playstyle in mind that comparisons would actually be beneficial. But they're not even remotely similiar in the playstyles they're built for.
Yet, I only had one character above lvl 30 in WoW, as I just couldn't stand the quest "story lines" in WoW again.I enjoyed my time in WoW, and I get nostalgia for it every now and then.
Anyone got a buddy key to loan me?...lol
Cheers!
i dont mind the zoning....i usually hang out in 1 area until i level out of the zone or do most of the quests in it...so i dont do much zoning in a given time frame. and sorry anyone who says "weaksauce" and has a tag wow4lifer...well i think it says enough

Cheers!

Cheers!
If they implement RvR like DAoC and mix a little some aspects of WoW and EQ2, it could be a huge hit.
rofl and you're on a mmorpg forum because?.................................

Personally WoW and its 8 million players can kiss my ass because I get tired of dealing with the 5.4 million of them that tend to be complete idiots. (just my thought on the wow is better cause there's more people theory)
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
double
not really. at least not according to math but hey
edit: cant delete doubles ouch
