Something for us mature players to think about...

Okay I was sitting here going back and forth between the WoW boards and EQ2 boards. Not just on this site but other sites as well. After viewing both, I get the impression that all the 14 year olds will be heading to WoW... /relief

With EQ2 system specs being so high I'm praying daily that it will deter all the snotty lil punks who often refer to themselves as "l33t". Don't get me wrong I fully plan on playing both games but ultimately I'm more excited about EQ2 due to graphics, lore, and sheer number of races and classes. That and the fact that I actually like EQ.

Well, it's just something to ponder over. I long for the day where I will be free from all the "l33t d3wdz"... /sigh

We can only hope. I've hardly even considered playing WoW becuase of the fact everyone harps on about it. I like to have cozy servers with nice friendly people, not people going around saying "i iz ging 2 own u tbh irl mofo" Partly the reason im looking forward to EQ2 aswell

Please do not use blanket statements like the one you used above, Neo.  I'm 13, and I absolutely abhor the "uber-l33t" crowd, as well.

Though I sincerely doubt they will not be in this game (you can be subscribed to WoW and EQ2 at the same time, you know), we can only hope that they won't.

I can say, without a doubt, since I have felt this for 18 months now...

The costumer base of WoW is the ONLY reason I have no interest at ALL to buy or play that game. I just want nothing to do with that kind of people.

Now, EQ... not really interested, the model builder of humanoids is sub par, but WoW is a BIG no.  am at least watching EQ with some interest.

Now.. DaoC II. That would be another issue.

While I still subscribe to everquest I would never buy another soe product. Good god man. Their customer service is horried. They release patchs without testing them fully... and now I will go on in detail about all the reasons SoE and EQ is going down the gutter :)

Classes are not balanced.. quests some are ok.. but cmon. Just look at the epics for example. Some are very easy and some are very very hard to due to rare ass spawns in weird locations.

Also take a look at the flag and locked zone setup for eq. Unless you are prepared to spend 3-5 hour a day with a powerful guild/raiding body... you will never see alot of content. This isnt an issue for me however, I am in a time keyed guild.. I just dont want to have to go through all of this crap again for another game.

Expansions.. Did you hear recently that the reason why GoD is so freakin hard is because it was meant for level 70 players? Got to love them for selling us an expansion that we would have extreme hardship using because of the current level cap.

Sorry zide56, I didn't mean to group all young people into that group, but as a whole, my experience is that the younger players are usually a bit crazy hehe. I've met plenty of younger people who I respect just as much or if not more so than the older crowd. I just look at Battlenet and see all the l33t d3wdz on there and hope they stay away from EQ2 and opt for WoW.

I fully plan on subscribing to WoW and EQ2, but with the system specs being so high for EQ2, I'm praying most of the younger l33t d3wdz won't be able to afford the computer upgrades to play EQ2. I know we'll get quite a few, but I personally think of EQ2 as the more mature game of the 2, but that's just my opinion. I can dream can't I? :)

Again, I mean no offense to the MATURE younger crowd out there... but you l33t d3wdz younger crowd, please, by all means be offended :P

I would have to agree, I beta tested WoW for a while there and would without a doubt say that their user base in immature. But after having a chance to play it I found that it was nothing special. (IMHO) I do however thing that EQ2 will have a much more mature user base.

Just look at the numbers Sony has posted about EQ in the past. 74% of the current EQ subscribers are over 21. I think that the content and the way that is presented has a large part in that. Less mature players (in my exp.) enjoy fast pace game play with quick results where as more mature players like to have something that you work for and over time are rewarded. Its the feeling of accomplishment and greater satisfaction that makes the game worth while. As I have not played EQ2 and I don't know if this is how the game play will be presented. But I would imagine as SOE has found this to be successful design in the past.

I, too, hate the uber l33t "kiddies."  To make such a generalization points to perceived maturity, not chronological age.  image

The hardware upgrade thing is kinda to be expected with a lot of these new games.

I really hope EQ2 proves to be all it's supposed to be.

SOE is a detail that worries me almost as much as an uber l33t gank-fest.  image

Yea, a real mature thing to point out. Call youngsters "snotty lil punks" and they shouldn't play any game you play. Damn your a real man.

  • acrobuddyacrobuddy Member UncommonPosts: 66
im 16 and i like to think of myself as just an extreme gamer and not "l33t"... in most games if you ever see me i try to solo and not cause any problems, so i dont think you can even label me as a "snotty lil punk" either

Going by age isnt the right thing to say, i started to play EQ when i was 11 and just quit a month ago at age 16. through those 5 years i played the same style and same ammount of maturity, nobody guessed i was under 20. But i agree about most the people joining WoW will be the spammers from battle.net.

I am 21 years old and used to play EQ quite a bit back in the day.  I think I am going to choose WoW over EQII for a few reasons.  Price wise I am not looking to upgrade/get a whole new computer just to play EQII.  IMO I think it is the players who spend tons of money on uber computers and spend tons of time to level up (thats how it was with EQ anyway) who act like elitist l33t d3wdz.  Sadly my friend is one of these players so you can't say I don't know of any people like this.  Now as for PvPers, who knows which game they will go to.  I know there was a decent amount of PvP fans who played EQ.  I am a casual gamer now and I would like to play a fun game with quick results.  Most mature gamers have other things to do in life like work, eat, sleep, and stay in shape.  I am not looking for another job to 'play' on my off time (just assuming EQII will be at all as tedious as its predecessor).  WoW has stated that their game will be much more fast paced (haven't seen the demo clips yet) and easy to get accustomed to.  I guess all I am trying to say is there are plently of 'mature' (not hardcore) gamers who might find WoW more attractive.

WoW gets all kids and EQ2 gets all super nerds with their highend computers that drool about the poly count, no idea what is worst:p

Both games will have mostly 'normal' gamers anyway.

(I don't mean that all that have highend computers are super nerds:p)

All I have to add is that I would gladly trade my beta slot in WoW for an EQII beta slot.

    I have my reasons. image

I would have to agree in that most "l33t" would go to WoW ( and I am sooo glad) I hope EQ2 is not tedious though.. I would hate to have to pay just to have another job..

I too hope that EQ2 draws the more mature crowd.  I hate trying to read all the l33t speak stuff anyways!

Honestly i think WoW has no freaking chance against EQ2, they dont know what theyre up against... I mean WoW team doesnt have the experience of MMORPG, althought they might MMOG, but I think they will screw upa  bit on the patches and expansions etc.. like EQ1 did a few times but EQ2 not as often anymore, Its true most kids will go for WoW, thank god image

I am also 14, but i am a mature 14 year old, and of course, being mature i'm going to choose EQ2. image  WoW doesn't have anything new that other games don't have.  I really dislike playing with people who don't act mature.  You are all right, WoW will attract all the immature crowd.  Anyway, EQ2 is going to be the better game, and i think i'm going to play the better game.  EQ1 was awsome and i'm still playing it, so EQ2 will be even better!  Can't wait till its out. imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

I hear ya Nazaarae. I gave away my WoW beta account, would have also willing trade it for a EQ2 account. But I would feel kinda bad about screwing over whoever I traded with ^^

I think Everquest 2 will have much more of a mature player-base. World of Warcraft does have cartoon like graphics almost, and if you visit their boards, the hype is ridiculous! Its being built up to be a 'god-like' game but really, i feel that Everquest 2 will be so much better. Better graphics, customization, lore, and hopefully a playerbase. Anyway, thats what i think.

Maybe everyone's living in fuzzy nostalgic bliss, but I seem to remember EQ having it's fair share of asshats. Not all of them where teenagers, most were in their 20's. Most of the actual teens I ran into in EQ were surprisingly well behaved. I've seen plenty of older adults that acted like spoiled children, and/or sociopaths as well.

As far as the b.net tards? Given how they were all apeshit about having to pay a monthly fee, I don't expect to see that many of them in game after the first month.

You know I am 16 and quite mature for my age and I think what you said was very rude and wrong....

I think if anyhting your acting just as bad as they are calling them snobby little punks and stuff I mean look at you....

when you look at someone by there age or what ever and consider them lower then you then your the only one who looks as you would say "as bad" as they are.....jus tso you knwo rather you play EQ2 or WoW there will be 13-14-15 year olds every where........

so please before you post something on here like this.....please think about the majority of people who will playing your game EQ2 as well.......

now i knwo your gonna sit here and try to flame this post but seriosuly I know alot of people who are even 11 yr old playing games like this and there are some of the coolest people some times...and yea i knwo alot of 12 13 14 15 year olds who play too and won't ever say hey man i like the fact that all the older people who think there so cool will be playing EQ2.....you knwo why because no matter what you think there is still that hint of respect...

so please before you post a very rude and disrespectful post like that...please think about it because we were all that age once and I will agree with you some times the younger people are annoying but guess what....you may not realize it but when you were that age...you were just as annoying...maybe no one told you or in your mind you weren't but i;m sure you were....

and go ahead and coem up with some bs story of how you weren't and how "good you were" because you know you don't think your soo cool or "L33T"........adn because you don't think you were a snobby punk.....

and as I post this...this isn't only for you NeoDrakeskin......there were a few others like the 2nd post on this thread agreeing and saying we could only hope....

Since most of the community is mature (having a good hardware system alone scared the kiddies away from this game) I think it's safe to say that EverQuest II will be a very social game. Soon we might be seeing more thought out statements on the chat instead of "Uber 1337 guild roxorz! Meet at freeport".
