Agree 100%.  Keyboard and mouse is the only way to play.  Scooting thumbsticks around is dumb.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

Alright, I have to ask you guys something. Other than the controls and the modding ability, what's the difference between a console FPS and a PC FPS?

No auto aim or higher hit targets for PC.

I think there's only a few console games (halo 1-3 included) that have auto aim. I could be wrong, though.

And what do you mean by "higher hit targets"?

In the same day Halo 3 sets an $170m record... 16K kids die of hunger-related causes. Goody.

Bear in mind that these sales are made to retailers not the end user.

It will also be intresting to see how fast they have to print a second batch, which will give a better indication of customer purchase figures.

Also higher graphical specifications [as in better graphics a lot of the time]. Bear in mind this isant true right now because of the new consoles but within a year some technology will come for the PC that will mean such amchines are more capable but expensive. 2 years later such technology will be standard on PC,s 1-2 years alter new consoles come out.

I like building some skill in FPS, and being able to rise in tiers and easily beat people of lower tiers.

The thing is, any scrub in console FPS can join the game and find a sniper rifle and shoot you.  In the FPS I play,(Twitch Shooters)  there are many luck shots but the higher tier player will be obvious and the lesser skilled player will be lagging behind.

There's more depth than that, but right now, I can't think, and am very tired.  Sorry for a half ass explanation.

Yeah, you're ganna need to explain that a bit better...

Are you saying there's no type of level matching in place and a veteren player could get put up against someone who's been playing the game for a day?

  • baffbaff Member Posts: 9,457

Sorry, but he's right console graphics do already look dated.

It's the low res textures that really spoil it. Whats the point of upgrading your TV to a high res screen when the textures are still going to be low res anyway?

It looks shit. It's like going back into time 3 years.

When I first saw Call of Duty on the 360 and R6 Vegas, I was like "dude, you have to upgrade your TV to the high res one. You are wasting all that beautiful XBOX 360 power by only running at 640x 480, when it can do double that."

(I was like OMG COD on the 360 looks the same as COD on xbox).

Imagine my horror when he spent £500 on a new TV, and it still looked the same afterwards.

I was like "Wow man, that looks so much better on your new TV. Well done."

It's the same old console disease. It's a budget machine. Not enough RAM.

Console FPS seems more for the entertainment.  Which is fine.  I prefer competition, I get my entertainment beating others.  I'm sure Halo(What other console FPS?) has some sort of system set up, and obviously there are some veterans in the highest tier.  But its just that there is about, 3 tiers of skill in Halo.

    1. You're pro.

    2. You're average.

    3. You are bad.

And the number 2 and 3 players can't get better at a certain point, because the depth in Console FPS is flimsy.  Once you learned the tricks, you've learned them all.  Once you know where the sniper rifle is and find the fastest way to get to it, you know all you need to know to kill 2-3 guys.

Competition can't be made with the lack of depth Console FPS has.  There are so many factors that go into getting better in, most, PC FPS.  Acquiring a proper headset, then learning sound ques takes months of practice, for the many maps.  Then having where to go naturally in the brain, proceed to the position, and perhaps avoid the enemy to flank him.  In UT2k4, you can dodge all the time and jump off walls or what not.  That is not a skilled player.  Perhaps a moment you will need that boost, but a controlled player stays safely in a certain spot with an advantage.

Then you learn the several weapons, whether projectile or hitscan.  Series like Quake and Unreal Tournament have 8-12 weapons in each game, all usually very different.  Another personal example is in UT2k4 again, there are powerups which you can control, using your head, and watching the game clock.  Example is this:  The 100 armor respawns every 55 seconds.  You have to keep that in your head, while getting attacked, or timing something else.

For anybody who starts to consider taking Baff's opinion on consoles seriously, Baff argues that Doom 3 looks better than Gears of War on the 360. Biased and ignorant to the bone.

Not to directly support baf or anything but you have been known to be like that for the PS3 you know.

The only reason you can possibly come to the conclussion that I'm telling lies because of bias or because of being a fanboi is by not looking at the facts or ignoring them.

I own a High end PC and multiple consoles. Why in heavens name should I be biased?

Damn all that hype about Halo 3 reminds me of the internet hype for Snakes on a Plane. Mainly the scene at the end where fat albert is flying the plane into the airport. "LEFT MOTHERFUCKER LEFT!!!!!"

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Actually, these numbers are actually a bit of smoke and mirrors. A bit of bull if you may. Some math shows you why:

$170 Million sounds like a big number but guess what, they ignore the fact that each item cost atleast  $60.

$170M / $60 = approx 2.8 Million Copies. That's assuming everyone only bought the 60 dollar version. There was also a middle version ($80 or something) and a $130 version.

They like to compare it to Spider Man 3, which made $151 million. Problem is, a movie ticket only costs like $10.

    $151M / $10 = approx 15 million people.

If even 1/4 of the copies of Halo 3 sold were the Legendary ($130) edition, then they sold only about 2.4 million copies. The same number sold by Burning Crusade on it's first day.

So no, it really isn't the biggest entertainment release ever. More people went to see Spider-Man 3, more people may have bought Burning Crusade even.

You also forget that it costs more to make Spider Man 3 then it did to make Halo 3.

Are you sure? I'd love to see some numbers on that. Game production nowadays can easily rival that of movie production.
