EQ2map: Good or Evil?

pust082pust082 Member Posts: 157

I have not begun to play EQ2 again since the first few weeks after launch, but I cant wait to give it another try. With this in mind i ask you all a question:

Do you feel the EQ2map addon is a fun tool or would it ruin your gameplay experience?

I have always been a bigger fan of exploring the EQ word than killing the stuff in it. It is so rich and in depth, that I loved seeing things for the first time. The first time i ran the whole way across Antonica(in EQ1) was one of the best and most exciting times i had playing a game.

Dodge monsters, kill monsters, get lost, find yourself in the VERY wrong  neck of the woods... run back across zone with a train of undead on your heels. FUN!!!!

On the other hand, there have been times when the Map would have been very welcomed. Just trying to find a group in a zone i dont know very well, or looking for a certain dock, for example.

Im interested in what you think(being a new player)... give a post.

i honestly only use it when i am very lost or cant find a mob after roaming for a while. I like adventuring and searching out new discoveries on my own...but sometimes when you haveto find a specific NPC or kill a placeholder....it can get annoying after a while

It beats running around in circles.  I use it when I get lost or when I absolutely cannot find a mob by just running around.    It's also helpful knowing where all the named mobs spawn in a given area.

I used to use it, considering the size of the game world, I looked at it as more helpful then ruining the game experience.

I love it, I hate having to spend an hour just to find one mob on a map, I prefer to finish things in a timely manner.   If your more for investigations and surprises I wouldn't recommend it.

Great time saver, I dont get much time to play due to real life kids and work getting in the way :P

    Excellant addition actually.

I understand where alot of you guys come from on this subject. I suppose that its just that i feel it takes away from my game play experience. I dont think you should be able to tell where a mob is just by looking at an add on. Thats why Rangers get the tracking skill. To each his own, i guess. This is a bit like roleplaying... some like it, some dont, and some do it when its convienient. As long as were all having fun, thats all that matters.

ps. As i think about it.. it really wouldnt even bother me if someone else in my group used it, as long as i didnt have to know!

I use it in the cities. Some of the more important NPCs, like the barber, aren't marked on the map. But I do find that it detracts from the fun of exploring.

I can see your point OP. I did use it for a extended time, but did uninstalled it. Have been running without it for more than 1 year now, and I haven't missed it that much (unless I get lost deep inside a dungeon).

Sometimes its harder to find specific things, but then I have the global chat channels and the guild channels to ask for help.
