Is Lunia really a MMORPG, and is it worth trying?

Lunia is an arcade-style action MMORPG, a rare breed of game combining action-packed gameplay and MMORPG classical features, such as character development.

Lunia, in contrast to many MMORPGs currently on the market, is played much like an action arcade game. The player is free to move around ingame using the arrow keys rather than a mouse cursor (freeing the user from the typical point and click method). Instead of clicking on an enemy to attack, varying attacks are launched by pressing combinations of two attack buttons and the space bar (finisher, or "down attack", as this is used when opponent is on the ground). Attacks can be chained together into combos, which are based on the timing, combination, and order of the attack buttons pressed. In addition, special skills and items can be put as hotkeys to be used more conveniently as separate attacks or in combos.  This is when player skills come into play, as the high-end combos (that can easily go over 100 hits) are pretty tough to pull off, but the reward and satisfaction of unleashing a monster combo is just great!



Unlike most popular MMORPGs, Lunia Online offers a detailed plotline and story to accompany gameplay. Player vs. Monster (PvM) action takes place in various "Stages" which are much like chapters in the overall story. In each stage, the players accompany Sieg, Eir, and Dainn in their adventure, often having to complete certain tasks (i.e. killing off all monsters in an area or escorting/protecting NPCs) which advance the plot and are necessary to complete the stage. Animated cutscenes typically appear just before and after a stage, serving as transitions from chapter to chapter and additional sources of plot information.





And the story is enjoyable There's also a PvP mode (your PvP level and rank is separate from your normal char level, and some equips require you to be a certain PvP level to wear), and other things to do, such as a racing track etc...



Overall it fells much like an interactive anime with RPG and fighting game elements, with a lot of depth, and with very nice graphics.

 

OVERALL, I would highly recommend this game, I was getting really bored of classic MMORPGs and this got my attention. I don't regret having started this game, I'm really really enjoying it.
