I'm starting to get the feeling that Mr Garriot is a one hit wonder
This may be the mother of all uninformed statements.
Outside of the Ultima franchise, I think it is a pretty accurate remark. He's had his name tattooed on a bunch of different projects but he didn't actually 'design' those games. It's publicity for publicity sake like Sid Meier using his name on everything from Civilization, Railroads, whatever...
Lineage: Over 1.5 million subscribers. Peaked at 2.5 million
Lineage 2: Over 2.5 million subscribers at peak. Still over 1 million today.
COH/COV: Not a smash hit but a solid and successful title.
PS:
Both Lineage and Lineage 2 had more subscribers worldwide than UO ever even came close to. Just because they weren't smash hits in North America doesn't mean they weren't successful MMORPG's. Before WoW they were the two largest MMORPG's in the world. Yes, even more than EverQuest. They just flew under western radar because they were not released in the US and Europe till late in their life cycles and were not as well received as in the far east.
But by any measure of 'success' I'd say RG has been extroardinarily successful with his titles thus far. Not a single one has flopped.
Now... the jury is out on TR. Many of the folks who have tried it don't care for it but a lot do. The beta servers are plenty crowded and a lot of people are pre-ordering it even after playing the beta so I'd have to say the predictions of it's early failure are premature at best.
It isn't a FPS, it was never supposed to be an FPS. Those who went into TR expecting a FPS are sorely dissapointed but that is their own fault. It DOES incorporate many features of FPS games but keeps the game feeling very much like an RPG, which is exactly what was advertised. Is it perfect? Not yet. But it's not bad either. I am enjoying the beta very much so far. Been almost 2 weeks in it now and have yet to be 'bored' as many have predicted.

Richard Garriot is just another dev who think he knows better than the mmo players (havent we seen that a lot already ?) Just because he was succesful with one game doesnt mean he will be succesfull in everything other games is making.
Take a look at the list of games he's made. Every single one has been a success. I'd say the man knows what he's doing.

Richard Garriott has had little or nothing to do with those games.
Lineage was all Jake Song and NCsoft lost Jake Song, their star programmer, because of the Garriotts.
Garriott was involved with minor changes for Lineage II North America, the game was long established in the Korean market and he had nothing to do with that.
If Richard Garriott had ANYTHING to do with Coh/Cov his name would have been all over it.
I played CoH from the closed beta through the first year and I never heard Garriott's name mentioned, not even once.
All he has is Ultima, everything else that is on that list are just resume bullets that had little or nothing to do with the games.
Doesn't matter if you think he farts sunshine and rainbows, the fact of the matter is that his only real claim to fame is Ultima.

Come back in two weeks.
The first few levels are fun, but it peters out real quick with just a wash, rinse, repeat gameplay.
You will be killing the same boring stuff at level 25 as you were at level 10.
It might be a good game for the OCD/Pokemon crowd but for anyone with an attenspan longer than a microsecond it's just empty.
