I don't think it's going to go down at all, but if it does, I will go down swinging.

(Maybe I'm hooked? I guess so.)

Wow... This is becoming a trend. Between MMOs with abysmal launches and ones being shut down, this has been a bad year for the genre.

I remember rabidly following Ryzom from wayyyy back during its development; being completely amazed by the artwork, the world... everything. There's nothing I could say about the game's many unique features that aren't already known by those who played it.

Nevrax had a grand vision, indeed, and had some amazing things planned. It's too bad they never quite got the footing to see them through to fruition.

That said.. I don't think this is entirely surprising. Ryzom has been sorta limping along almost since its launch. I still remember, all-too-well, the one patch they did that must have cost them at least 1/4 of their playerbase. They made mobs insanely hard to beat - even in the newbie zones - among other things and it resulted in many, many people leaving.

They never quite recovered from that it seems and over time, more issues continued to pile up that were never properly or completely resolved.

It's sad and, seems, another game that is truly unique in a genre that's becoming more and more about "me, too" and less about originality, may be going away. Let's hope that the open-source movement works and people can keep it going.

    Sad news, either way.

I really don't know what you guys are talking about.  I will be roaming the fields of Atys, searching for the not-so-elusive Timi's tonight.
