What I would like to know is what would all of you recommend fro a new player as a good skill gaining strategy (especially if you could do it over).
I do not know that much about EVE and will learn as I go but I do not want to regret any skill decisions that I make in the beginning of the game.
I will probably lean to being a support type player in battles and such.
Would skills would you recommend over the next three or four months?
Character etc?
Thank you!

Electronics and Engineering 5
Weapon Upgrades 5 and Advanced Weapon Upgrades 4
Racial frig 4, and Racial Cruiser 4
Electronics Warefare 4 and Propulsion Jamming 4
Energy grid operation 4 and Energy grid management 4
Sensor Linking 4
Cruiser weapon to 4
Those are the core skills I suggest to anyone to learn they are solid basic skills that you will get use of the most of. Nothing on there will ever be a wasted skill to learn.
get EVEmon and add learning skills as it suggests and ONLY as it suggests them till you get confident that your going to be around for a while.
I would also suggest, pick your race and the weapons you are going to use and just train those. The EVE forums should give you some good suggestions. I don't know if it's true, but the rap on Caldari and missles is that there great to start with but weak latter in the game. Minmatar seem to be the race of choise ATM. Also, you don't have to train all ships from one race. You just don't want to have frigates from multiple races or destroyers from multiple races ect.. ect. This is how you waste skill training time and where the forums can help.Plus, look at the bonus's the ships provide before u train.
I recommend getting your learning skills up to 4 ASAP - it will make everything else easier and faster to train. Cybernetics 1 (requires Science 3) also helps train skills faster via stat increasing implants. That being said, though, you're playing EVE to be a merchant tycoon, a fighter, a miner of deepspace - have fun with it. I highly recommend training "fun" skills while playing, and letting the learning skills run overnight. It makes you feel a lot better
Another strategy I found very helpful: I bought rank 1 in every basic skill that would increase my efficiency be it navigation, gunnery, etc. Rank 1 takes 15 to 58 minutes in most cases, and all those little 5% boosts to damage, speed, accuracy etc add up.
A lot of people will tell you that X skill is vital to get ASAP - and soon enough X will equal at least a half dozen different things. Don't let yourself be overwhelmed, and you'll be fine.

One tip i can give is for you to refer to the sticky atthe top of the Jita forum. It is full of advice aimed at new players like you who feel a bit overwhelmed by eve.
"Kill one man, and you are a murderer. Kill millions of men, and you are a conqueror. Kill them all, and you are a god."

a sticky full of information to overwhelm newbies overwhelmed by eve. epic.
Be honest we should create a thread of People who are wiling to answer questions for new players in game on a more 1 on 1 basis. It should also be understood that those volunteering to do it should be given nothing. I know I usually don't mind getting asked questions.
