Good free multiplayer RTS?

Some buds and I want to play a free RTS together, any suggestions? Looking for simple, not a big download or  anything.

Don't forget to download the top 5 downloaded mods.

 

And the top 20 or so most downloaded maps.

 

Place them in the appropriate directory.

Anything compared to the original CnC is and will always be pure crap. And I even like Total Annihilation.

Old C&C singleplayer is amazing. Multiplayer it's rather boring.
