Soloing: has it changed since June?

I am considering picking this up.  I have the station pass, and thought this might be an good EQ2 alternative when I just don't feel like playing there.  Did a search for soloing and found a post from June.  Just wondering, have there been any changes in soloing?  I tend to lean toward the tank or healer class, so the Cleric sounds interesting.  Is this still as viable as before?  I am also interested in crafting.  I have a lvl 45 tailor in EQ2, and crafting here sounds somewhat similar, and even more profitable, at least from a beginning standpoint.  Are crafted materials worth anything to the community, or is it all about the drops and quest items?

Also...  which server should I choose?

Thanks!

    Thanks!

    I have a lvl 38 sor, lvl 27 cleric and a lvl 16 monk.

    * Regarding your question around a tank or healer class.  I really like the cleric because you really have options to choose how you use it.  You can really be a little battle machine as a cleric or a very powerful healer.   So both options are viable but you need to stack your attribute points accordingly.

    * Soloing. Well I pretty much solo'd my way up to level 38 with the occassional dungeon when I found a party.  However at level 38 I have found you really need a group to push further or its really just dull grinding.  Having a guild with similar level players is crucial later on.  They have improved the group find interface hugely.

    * Crafting is what kept me in the game for a long time.  Its probably the best crafting system I have found since you can make a huge number of items with different combo's.  I got pretty rich just churning out furniture not weapons which is interesting.  Each craft discipline has some very nice items to build so depends what you want.  I really enjoyed making ships so I choos carpenter.  Most players can find good weapons and armour adventuring.  You tend to make all your money on bags, saddles, horseshoes, furniture, special bows etc.  If you find a rare resource you can sell it for a lot.  I found 2 rare recipes from crafting and they sold for a tonne each.

    *  Vanguard today should have been like that at launch.  It has been improved 1000% at least and the interface, balancing etc has really been worked on.  SOE continue to add a fair bit of improvements and now there are guild halls.

    My verdict.

Its a good option to play and have a break from other games.  I don't play anymore because I don't have time to grind out XP so I prefer FPS and EVE Online for the offline skill system.

If you are soloing I would go a cleric or another tank.  As a cleric I could really punch above my weight.  I played Sorceror mostly and soloing was tough.  I tend to kill creatures lower level than me as opposed to my cleric fighting higher levels.

Server wise really go for your location.. EU or US.  There are enough players around but I have noticed that my sorceror on the US server is wasted.  I tend to see no one mostly due to me being in GMT.  Its not EVE where there are 18-33k players on 24/7.

Either way try the trial.  You can get a fair bit done even in a short time and you can see if its worth continuing.

    Hope this helps

Soling and duoing are presently the best way to experience in vanguard.  One can solo entirely on quests without ever grinding all the way to 50.  The probelm most new players have is finding the quest areas.   If you ask around people will direct you.  Vanguard has arguably the best community of any game since DAOC's release.

In regards to crafting yes it is very profitable.  presently crafters make the best gear in the game.  Once raiding is in I think crafted gear will become even more vaulable as people will need more specific gear that require more HP, resistences and spell mitigation.  But if your looking to make easy money harvesting is the way to go.  While crafting exp is fast harvesting can be maxed in a couple of days and the prices harvesters get for rares is ridicoulus and much more profitable than all the time spent leveling a crafter.

The plan for raid crafting is that raid mobs will drop BoP recipes that will make items that will then need to be combined with some BoP resources to make the best gear.  Atleast thats my best interpretation from what has been said by the devs.

If you left in June you should be aware that prices have greatly increased.  When I reached 50 in adventuring in March i had less than 10g on me.  Now its common that good items will sell for 1-2 pp and most people I know have at least 10 pp on them and many I know have well over 50pp spread among their various alts.

In regards to server for PvE unless you want the Euro server you have 2 choices.  The Seradon server probably is mroe mature as it contains all the RP players from Florendyl server which many people will say was a much nicer server with much nicer players than any of the otehr servers.

Recently rolled a cleric alt currently level 15 and as others mentioned they are battle machines.

So far in those 15 levels i have died once and that was due to a giant lag spike rather than an ill chosen fight.

Can seriousley punch above your weight taking 2 levels above 3 dots with ease,  as ive spoke with other clerics who solo'd the only problem you will find is that as you get to a higher level you will find the fights are still winnable you just dont lay out the dps to make them quick.

Cleric for me is a class to play when you just want a bit of play time with very little risk and thinking im certainly finsing it at lower levels to be a bit of a 2 button mash your main hit and the heal over time,  but i am enjoying it very much as it allows that chill out time that other classes dont.

This really sums up the Cleric.  I used to load up my cleric because I wanted some chill time...well not exactly chill time but less mental time!  I love my sorceror because the DPS is mental and on occassion you really can pop creatures with a chain.  However unless you constantly look behind you, cast slow or root and have a quick escape route then you pretty much die with 2 hits.  Having a cleric that can take multiple hits and staying power is a real relief.  BTW the best PvP I have had in VG is using my Cleric vs other Tanks.  Battle went on for at least 5 minutes and a lot of tactics were used.  Playing a Sorceror isn't really PvP since it depends on who gets the first drop and its pretty much blast, prey and either you or the enemy is dead in 10 seconds.
