Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Alright, this is all I'm looking for

These are the things I am looking for in an mmorpg

1. Complete character customization, from looks to skills, I don't want to have to pick a certain archetype, and I don't want to play 1,000 hours before I am allowed a second outfit.  I want this game to be all about building a character.

2. Almost no instanced gaming, I hate the feeling of paying 10 bucks a month to essentially play a single player game.  Basically I want an online world.

3. Questing should not be the focus.  I played COH, and like my previous post, it felt like playing a single player game, go to this warehouse and clear it, then go kill ten street thugs.

4. A logical and complete crafting system.

5. PvP would be nice

6. A strong community

7. Vertical and HORIZONTAL leveling, I want a game where skill can compensate more than simply having the higher level player always win.

8. More than simply click and kill fighting, one of the things COH got right in my opinion was the fighting system.

Things I don't care about

1. Graphics

2. I don't really care about time frame, meaning I don't care if my character is shooting a ray gun or wielding  a sword.

3. Price- to an extent, I have no problem paying 10-15 bucks a month for an engrossing game, but if my requirements are met by a free game, great.

Alright folks, what game should I play.  Keep in mind I really liked UO, and was not a big fan of COH.

Welcome to my world, and the world of many of us.

We are the ones without a game to play, and it sadens us everytime our fold increases.

If only developers and their $$$ men would realise that for every teeniebopper that grows up playing games, a veteran gamer is also born, a gamer that require more than senseless grind.

    3. There are things like Quests, but its not the focus
    4. CHECK!
    5. Hell yes. Yarr! (political map of eve-online. theres wars all around)
    6. Mhjep
    7. Mhjep. Kinda.

Most of your demands are met by EVE.

Most importantly, a player cannot have all the skills in the game, unless they play it for ~20 years, so you have to choose a path. Piracy, mining, trader, missions-running(PvE), scouting ( corp related ) and covert ops ( often in the package with scouting )

You can spend your entire career in safe sectors, or after the first week always hunting in dangerous space, where you're either the hunter or the hunted.

It's a different game. I recently started, the things I've given up here are examples that I know of and there's probably more. Like support roles, grapler ships, you name it.

I myself am currently working with some friends to pull up a corp ( 50/50 dutch/german, speaking English mostly ) and get the members fit, so I'm not in the PvP zones. Mostly running missions and mining.

The best thing about it, is that you could possibly end up fighting with a veteran, and still outclass him in "some" fields where you're only a few months ingame.

You said it all.  Please give me something new and fresh.  Everything Pre-WoW was an EQ copy and everything post WoW is a WoW copy.  There are of course a few games that are out there on their own but I just need something diffrent.  I've been playing EVE online and it is alot of fun but the missions sort of all consist of killing pirates for a while.  Still fun though.  Im still looking for a UI that is as responsive, smooth and sleek as WoW.  I still havent found one close.

I am patiently awaiting what Age of Conan, WAR, and Gods and Heroes will bring us.

If u will play the new games that are going to be released soon (Age of Conan, WAR, The cronichles of spellborn, tabula rasa..) I will recommend you trying them and choose the best one for you, i will probably end at AoC or TCoS.  But if u want a game NOW, i have one that suits you really good based in your desires: The Saga of Ryzom or simply Ryzom (although the game is now in a 2 week decision process where maybe it can close or maybe it will continue evolving).

The game is not quest based, it has character customization, the best skill system i have ever seen (you can customize all your skills by reducing casting time, more MP using it, more range, more damage, extra effects, etc, it is a really cool skill and combat system). And it is skill based, no levels, no archetypes, you can be a mage, a fighter, a crafter or a prospector, it just depends in which things you train. Graphics are lovely, community is the best one i have ever seen (i just entered the game and 2 guys crafted me equipment while other 2 gave me 1 million each i was like :O  ). Its fantasy and sci-fi too, it has guild wars (conquer of outposts), and a very very good crafting system, really interesting where each item is different from the other based on what u used to craft it.

You should give it a try, there is a free trial where u just play in a place called SIlan, then if u want to come to Mainland u have to pay each month. But at the moment the game is suffering some problems that will be possibly be solved in 1 or 2 weeks.

Missions are not the center of Eve, dude ;)

your obsolutley right, it just seams like the missions you do take....it alls seams to be about pirates.  Im not saying thats the main objective in the game I know that I myself havent even scratched the surface in my little dinky destroyer haha.

Just ripped that from the forums:
"Regardless of the politics, I find the operative moment somehow pleasing. Player freighters being scanned at gates by a player alliance border control gang to search for goods deemed illegal by treaty. How cool is that?"

I think it explains a lot about what eve can look like if you go into the deeps of politics..

    just wanted to add that.

Thanks for the quick responses, looks like Eve is worth checking out.

Hehe, UO vet, right? Everything you just asked for was how UO once was, and indeed is what many of us are searching for. The only game at the moment that'll meet the requirements you specify is Darkfall, and nobody is sure if that'll ever really be released. :(
