A WoD MMO will more and likely be a free for all open PVP system. Hate to break it to you but in the WoD Vampires don't play nice because they are in the same clan. They'll act nice till they can kill you and take any money or political power you have. If this involves working with another bloodline temporaly then so be it. The same thing with Werewolves, and a Shadow lord may be in a pack with a Silver fang but that doesn't mean they won't get into fights. Or that at some point there won't be a turf war between them when they aren't fighting vamps. Sadly I don't know the internal structure of mages very well but I assume they are very similiar.
IT isn't going to be a FFA open PVP system. Forget about it. If they stick to the lore at all that is.
The whole point in the lore of the Masquerade was that the Vampires stayed behind the scenes. That means that open PVP isn't happening. Do they fight each other? Sure sometimes but not very openly and not very often. Also they generally dealt with each other more with diplomatic measures then with open warfare.
Now Open PVP between Lycans vs Vamps vs Mages? Sure that I could see. It could fit the lore of the world more, but as I stated earlier it would bring up more challenges in balancing the game. As Mages are pretty powerful and Lycans are usually worth 3-5 Vampires, so how do you balance that?
First off, I played P&P games for years (20+). Everything from D&D to BT/Mechwarrior and WH2k to the lesser know Call of Catholue (sp) and wheel of time and even games I have long sence forgotten the names of "walk the pattern" but I have never ever heard of World of Darkness.
So as an IP it is not well known, I asked my HC gamer friends as well as my nephue's and sons, none had ever heard of it. nore did anyone at the card shack. (We have a weekly MTG/shadowRUN game).
Also, this being CCP's second game, it will be intresting to see what they do with it. Oh visually it will look great but gameplay is actually more important. So they could not just apply EVE's gamestyle to a MMORPG with "normal" avatars. I can not see running multiple Alts in WoD which is a necessity in EVE not to mention multiple accounts.
Someone correct me if my logic is off here but from what I have read up on the game, basicly it will be an avatar building game that relies on skills/powers as opposed to equipment. ie: the object is to have your a vampire/wearwolf grow in power by killing your enemys which can be handled solo. EVE's gamestyle requires group/zerg tactics even if the group is simply you having multiple accounts. You can not take EVE an make it into a normal (single account) avatar based game especally if you kept the RT based skill training. If you took EVE and removed the need to keep your sub to train and removed the need to group/zerg thus the need for multiple subs then EVE would have somewhere around 10k+/- indivadual subs.
WoD would be the same. Now people have posted that there is a fanbase that would support it, well that support only goes so far. How many of you guys were fans of warcraft but don't play WOW? Lets say there are 1,000,000 people that are fans (or have even heard) of WoD. If CCP makes WoD a FFA PVP I dare say that half the fanbase would not play past the demo. Anyone that payed the Board/P&P games knows where I am coming from, in all of the gencons and comicons I have ever played in I have never seen a PKer in a P&P/Board game. PKing is actually not a natural thought to this croud as you typically had to rely on your group to survive the quests especally if you had a GM/DM that liked killing off your avatars. Point being is that traditional (P&P/BD) gamers do not PK or play games that allow non-RVR Pking. games such as EVE. So now the playerbase could be maybe 500k (yes I am being generious) but if you can not level up except by paying your subs (as in EVE) then again I dare say thats a deal breaker for most players. Is your vampire going to have a clone? Are you going to have a market (selling what, wolfbain?) Are you going to be able to MFG/Talor, well those silver stakes don't make themselves.
Point being, you can not take what makes EVE work and apply it to the type of game that WoD would be, the FFA fighting in EVE is less than 10% of EVEs gameplay and the 90% of EVEs gameplay would not fit into a Vampire/Warewolf battle game.
It will be intresting to see how well WoD does. First off, I played P&P games for years (20+). You've heard of Cthulhu but never heard of World of Darkness??? WoD began as Vampire: the Mascarade, then materials on Lycans were added, then finally there was Mage: the Ascension. As an IP it is VERY well known - probably the best known after Dungeons & Dragons.
Sorry to disappoint you, but you could query 100 people that play MMO's and you would be extremely lucky to find 5 people that have heard of World of Darkness, it is hardly a well known IP. But it is different enough that it most probably will have pretty good success. Too much competition in the fantasy area.

You could query 100 people that play MMO's, and of those from the US, you would be unlikely to find 10 that could name 3 European countries! I mean, everyone knows Azeroth and Norath, but try to name a third
I was refering to the person above who claimed to have played PNP for 20 yrs and had never heard of WoD. Among PNP RPG players, and among those who follow any RPG news, WoD is probably the second largest IP after D&D. Every Halloween there are a few newspaper and tv bits about Vampire [usually as a LARP].

Actually I had heard of Vampire: the mascarade, never saw it played as those were the poeple we avoided at the conventions . Sreiously though, I can remember playing a lot of diffrent games but never a strickly Vampire game (because vampires suck ). Never heard of mage the Ascension, but to be fair I ran a SR game for about 5 years then a BT/MW one then we got into the Buck rogers/Starship Troupers/ WWII games. Ie: most players I knew leaned to the science fiction games or dungeon crawls so even though I do remember hearing the name mascarade (was that not a PC game?) I would never have payied attention to it.
Which by the way is one of the best selling point of EVE, no elves (or vampires though there may be werewolves) .
They could [should?] license Google Earth or something to make actual cities, then populate them with "normal" people. Vampires would have to feed without being caught breaking the Masquerade [thanks for the correct spelling] Likewise Lycans would have to keep from being recognised or get hunted down by MOBs. <Never played Mage, so I'm not sure how they work, but they probably don't want to get caught by mundanes, either.>
Characters killed by MOBs [or mobs of MOBs - waving pitchforks and torches!] or killed in PvP or killed by their progenitor for breaking the masquerade would have to suffer perma-death [or perma-undeath?] BUT could start over as one of their own progeny. Maybe make a level 5 mission [or a "before you can wander the streets outside the enclave" mission if there are no levels] that is perhaps instanced, where the player must embrace or infect or create a humunculus from a normal person. As the main character gains skills/abilities, s/he would have to then teach them to the progeny [who always remains a maximum of one level or generation or whatever lower than the main].
Adding Hunters would be very cool - especially if Hunters could take over any normal MOB when they logged in. That way no one would know what MOBs could fight back effectively and which were just "food". Hunters could assign heirs to take up the hunt if they are killed.
PvP between vampires would usually have to be sanctioned [fatal PvP, anyway, perhaps dueling could be allowed] - perhaps clan leaders could declare wars/vendettas <even against their own!?>
Open PvP between "races" is a must, BUT there could be guarded areas, MOBs helping protect the defender if s/he hasn't broken the masquerade, Hunters jumping in to kill them all, ... making PvP something that is not undertaken lightly.
The more I think about this, the more fun it sounds like it could be!
Well if they make if solely PvP based then they will only experience the limited results that Eve has demonstrated.
That's not an entirely factual characterization. EVE isn't solely PvP. There's a huge PvE element to it. To be honest, if it were SOLELY PvP, it wouldn't be doing as well as it is.

Actualy to be even morre accurate....Yes therre is a large PvE eliment to EvE but its there to both support the economy in mineralls from loot and the loot itself. And to act as an income for PvP persons.
Its important in that its a means to an end [PvP].

Here's to hoping that we can be Hunters...
It'd be actually neat, if they implemented a Masquerade system. Break the Masquerade and every hunter around that block will get a call to Hunt!
As an avid fan of the IP, I have a few problems... That would take an abnormal long post and include the forbiden words of PD.
