Monty Python and the holy grail is best imo... but movies transfered to games is a cheap way to make some extra side cash from a over hiped movie, not too mention most games made from films are complete crap, but makeing films from games is a great idea and soo far hasnt failed ex:Doom,Alien vs Predator ... I heard that there might be a Prince Of Persia movie in the making too.
you know.. i like most ideas but any eragon ideas can bite me.. the books are pretty much like recycled star wars/lotr/"name another fantasy and it's probably there"... i like original ideas myself but i think The Sword of Truth Series (books only, never been a movie) or Dune (movie and book series) would be good.. or how bout a REAL DDO.. with Forgotten Realms instead of Eberron.. with all the expanded races and such.. most movies are total crap but i think a transformers mmo would be neat .. you design your bot apperance and your "transformed" appearance.. be it animal, car, or whatever.. heck i dunno.. i cant think of any great fantasy movies off the top of my head.. i personally hope to design my own.. but that requires money and a team which i have neither of... i just have ideas.. boo..
oh oh.. oh oh.. serenity/firefly just crossed my mind.. mmm.. being a superhuman.. or being a smuggler or being a space cowboy.. or bandit.. royal courtier... doctor... mechanic... soldier... captain.. whatever one wanted.. muahaha
agree, when iw atch riddick or pitch black i think it would be a mint mmo. but more pitch black as having riddick as king would be too much like aoc. i like the universe tho...
I'd like to see the Highlander, done well of course - and ignoring anything after the second film, or maybe just ignoring the sequels entirely. The concept of immortality is a great excuse for 'respawning', though I'm not sure how the game would handle you having your head chopped off. It would be an MMO that you could approach from many angles. It has both futuristic and medieval themes. Personally I would set it in the medieval Scottish Highlands. You'd form Clans with other wannabe immortal Scottsmen and rage wars with rival clans. Maybe. "My name is Recant MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, there can be only one!" *Experiences Quickening* ... "DING!" "ffs that Recant guy just ganked me again! Better start running MacLoed, my clan is on it's way!" Or something.
highlander mmo would be SICK !!!1!1111
but only based on the first film because the others sucked raw bollocks.
I think it should be set in a few time era's. no time machine but the fact that you live forever means you can play out different ages...
SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS : THE MOVIE! (just kidding) The Chronicles of Narnia? I know, it's a book series, but Disney made a movie out of the first one (when is the next one going to come out? It's been two years)
I was thinking along the same lines, a series of books turned movie. Why not an MMO set in Alagaësia the world that the movie Eragon takes place in. Besided the movies their are to more books of lore to be used in the back story.Flying dragon mounts at epic levels. Maybe set the game in the period before the events in the movie, when dragon riders still existed inmass, or durig the rise of King Galbatorix and you choose to fight on one side or the other?
yeah eragon is an amzing book although completely tird film. yes setting it back during the rise of king galbatorix would be awesome. wait till after the 3rd book (i think final one?) then there is more lore and someone might do it.
since we're doing books. I'm gona have to say SABRAEL!!! by garth nix.
people want a zombie one. this is zombies but way more dynamic. I can think of half the classes already. charter casters, rangers with chartered arrows, warriors with charted swords, lesser necromancers, the greater dead, clayr? wallmaker?
could say abhorsen but there are too few of them.... so some sort of simular thing with bells etc?
plethora of bad guys.
PLUS! there is like 1920's technology from south of wall. albiet it doesn't work beside magic in the books but meh. this means you can have soldiers with guns and people who like call of duty will love it, except vs zombies instead of germans...
I know that studies show that only 16% of the US population reads one or more books per year (and that is the highest in the WORLD! Frightening! ) but movies suck, plain and simple. Books are where the real creative juices flow.
Out of the books that I feel would make great MMORPGs would be John Morresy's Iron Brand trilogy (Iron Brand, Gray Mantle, King's Bane) which I read when I was summering in Europe as a young girl.
and of course Piers Anthony's 'Incarnations of Immortality' series!! which I read in college after sneaking them out of my boyfriend's roomate's bookshelf (I feel a little bad because I still have the first five of his copy of the series ... I always secretly wished he would realize it was me and come over in the middle of the night and punish me for... {cough} ok, that is off topic... )
anyhow, either of those two series would make fantastic MMORPGs. And if you haven't read them, then DO IT Turn off the games for a few hours, open a book and become one of the elite who can use their grade school powers.

Subscribtions: EVE, SWTOR WOW, WAR, DDO, VG, AOC, COV, FFXI, GW, RFO, Aion +plenty of F2P, betas, trials
Female Dwarf player: WOW, VG, WAR, DDO . Due to the recent economic crisis and spending cuts the light at the end of the tunnel was turned off. Sincerely, God.
truth be told... i'd love a wide open world that something like Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... but not the movie universe, the book (all books) universe.
I just think that the possibilities would be endless and the dev team would have truly free roam as to what you could put into it.
-time travel, lots of world, infinite creatures, hundreds of professions, awesome landmarks, and good lore.
"And after blizzard takes over the world, they are gonna gather a bunch of lemmings, sit on their fat asses near a cliff, and watch the little fuzzy bastards suicide dive into the ground below. . . . . all just for their own entertainment."
I like the idea of a western were you build the west by making towns and railroads. The crafters can have wagon trains and the non crafters can either try and attack them or defend them as most of the economy. It kinda reminds me of the way Potbs is but without water lol.
Movie - FIrefly a.k.a. Serenity with a twist of Magnetic Rose. I wanna space salvage mysterious hulks for long forgotten technology, rare NPC sidekicks found in cryostasis, discover secrets governments wanted forgotten. Some Bladerunner and Fifth Element city scapes with Coruscant depth appeal. Homeworld series is another theme I enjoy as an RTS.
Yeah, I read books and comic books. Ringworld, Dune, Sword of the Lictor, Casca, Conan, and Calahan's Crosstime Saloon by Spider Robinson to name a few off the top of my head. Honor Harrington is another possible, but I never bought into their ship designs. Flame my bellybands.
I liked the point made earlier in this thread, the devs should be allowed full artistic license in their creativity, but I think their experience should be tempered with at least 4 or more years of MMO playtime experience spanning at least 4 MMO's so to know what works and what doesn't. I think any truely successful MMO will listen to their subscriber base and make honest efforts to comply with their demands and never use the nerf hammer, but counter each unintentional advantage with a counter measure thats a content addition, not a nerf. Inviting the player base to upload their own content would be a bonus should it pass a MMO patent officer's approval and meet the eula agreement guidelines and is stable code. This helps the player base economy's and I am always suprised how much talent is out there. Remember to vote with your subscription fee.

Grammaton Cleric FTW! This would be interesting to see the combat system.

And by the book Cthulhu Mythos by Lovecraft! Cthulhu Online ..
Sandbox Western theme would probably rocks everything else.
REALITY CHECK
Isn't there a Firefly MMO in development?

Oh and waterworld sounded cool.
Mad Max is similar to this fallenearth.com
and my personal pick......THE RUNNING MAN!!

Firefly MMO
Firefly Reborn as Online Universe
Firefly MMO Annoucement
And for those of you who were talking about a "metaverse" for MMO platforms, theres one in the works called Multiverse. You cant cross your toons from game to game, but its a universe being built as a primary BASE for any MMO dev that wants one. READ.
