So what is the differencve between closed beta and open beta anyway?  Just an invitation?  Can anyone be in open beta if they just download the game?

Closed betas are by invitation only, at least for most non-asian mmorpgs, and require you to agree to an NDA (non disclosure agreement) preventing you from talking about what you see ingame.

An open beta is usually held a few weeks before release for the general public to play the game and to stress the servers, put in final tweaks and polish, etc. The majority of open betas are for anyone who wants to play, but there have been a few instances of devs handing out limited invitations/keys for open betas as well.

Thanks Zorvan.  That was pretty much the impression I was getting.  Either way, I'm looking forward to playing/testing if I get the chance.
