Warhammer Online Closes Beta - Effects on AOC?

observerobserver Member RarePosts: 3,685

http://prod.drupal.tentonhammer.com/node/13260

According to a post made on the Warhammer Online beta forums by Senior Producer Jeff Hickman, the developers will be closing down the beta servers on October 10, 2007, with plans to reopen the servers in early December 2007. Before we posted this news, we called the folks at EA Mythic to make sure we weren't breaching anything from the NDA. They gave us their blessing.

What kind of effect will this have on AoC?

I was in the Vanguard beta and WAR beta closing for 6 weeks is nothing of the sort.

When the beta reopens in December, I hope I get invited.

I am sure the two-month hiatus will be discussed at tomorrow's dev chat.

If AoC closed its beta for a few months I don't think it would have any affect on WAR. The games, especially the beta for the two games have nothing to do with eachother. So I don't see why the reverse would be true.

Did the fact that AoC didn't have anything beyond a friends and family beta for a while have any affect on any other games? I don't think so.

If there is an effect because of this news, it rests solely in the behavior of the posters following the two games.

    To OP:

None whatsoever, what makes you think it will affect AoC?

Because these two games are the most hyped MMO games right now.  If WAR is looking like it's having problems already, many will probably just flock to AoC.  Then again, AoC did delay their release too, but many MMO games do.

    Speculation is fun.

Well recent events at EA Mythic follow the same pattern Mythic developed over the time they've had DAoC.

I'm putting all my Eggs in AoC now and hopfully the developers aren't as eager to lie to people so directly here. At least i hope.

I was leaning towards AoC anyways, but 2 friends were promised things that arn't gonna happen, and thats Mythics MO. So that seals the deal. EA's also this way  from what i've read but nothing that directly effected me so i'll reserve judgement. (and i like there sports games) As much fun as Warhammer would be, if its anything like it sounds, recent events and developer posts just bring up that sick feeling i got when i played DAoC.

Integrity is the basing of one's actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Depth of principles and adherence of each level to the next are key determining factors. One is said to have integrity to the extent that everything he does and believes is based on the same core set of values. While those values may change, it is their consistency with each other and with the person's actions that determine his integrity.

EA Mythic Core Set of Values: Treat the people like cattle, plant the grass and the cows will come.

Well this Cow is finding Greener pastures where there isn't so much crap on the field despite how tasty your grass looks.

Your friends were 'promised' beta accounts before the end of summer, and they didn't get them, right? So your complaint comes down to... you or your friends wanted in beta and didnt get it, so you are going to support a different game.

As for your integrity comment.. guess you were never around during Anarchy Onlines development. Oh well. I admit I'm somewhat envious of you on that one.

All the close down sounds like to me is the fact that they've come to a point where they are ready for a significant 'once over' on a lot of aspects of the software. This would not be easy to do while maintaining a constantly updated version for beta testing. Vanguard never did that. I was in their beta and WAR is already way ahead of VSOH in terms of polish. Methinks it's a bit too much of the "oh boy, your game sounds like it might be sucking so mine will get more subs" to me. Otherwise you would have posted in the WAR forums. I'd expect AoC to do the same thing when it comes time.

It's the opposite actually. They are taking time to polish and balance - everything that Vanguard didn't do. Did you even play that POS? It was awful - going to retail at alpha stage.

AoC is doing much the same thing by pushing their release back to 2008. Good on them, I'd much rather wait and play a polished MMO than waste time and cash on garbage like Vanguard.

The only effect it "LOL" at all the people talking about AoC delays, other than that, none... personally I hope that they both open head to head and WAR gets a huge chunk of WoW's market

I just hope they can pull off this combat thing.  If they can and it makes alot of sense, play wise, which I will know in March then  I will play this over War.

    {Mod Edit}

This game is going to be a great Guild v guild game in which myself and my guild cant wait to play.

a game for morons and newbs? Are you serious? Have you watched the podcasts to even understand the game? It requires more skill than most MMO's and requires grouping and tactics to be effective. Not buy gold, buy the uber weapons and run around being proud of yourself. Or, grind 12 hours a day to unlock rank and you instantly outclass new players. The fact is that it is more skill and tactic dependent than most other games. Nice try, but go home and learn the subject matter first. Good for you and your guild that you've chosen Age of Conan, but there is not need to bash another promising game just because you personally don't like it for some reason. I personally hope both come out and are STELLAR games. I have been through enough games being developed and watching their media and playing their betas to know that WAR is quite capable so far.
