I've prepared a wikipedia link so you can check out some of terms for MMO's, you seem new.

But it was still in its own right a level based system (determined by your over all combat skills ) which may have been more apparent if the buff's were not godly pre-cu .

Again: not true. The preCU /con system was based on your skill with the weapon in hand, NOT on "your over all combat skills". I once experimentally verified this when I wanted top-quality Avian Bone, and discovered that the best around was on Tatooine. At the time, my combat template was Novice Pistoleer, and no Brawler. By equipping an uncertified dagger (NovBrawler weapon cert), I was able to drive my /con so low that I could pull Dwarf Nuna missions out of Mos Espa.

That is true , But you wouldn't use a weapon you weren't certified in to take down a tough opponent . When it comes to the mission terminals your con could be changed by a few different factors .  Grouping or as you stated changing weapons had an effect on your combat level . It still remains a level that determines your to hit ratio and resistance modifiers (con to an enemy) . Much the same as a level works in the system in place today , It has just been dumbed down .

I'll break down what I mean in a more clear manner , Pre-cu's combat system was much more complex in terms of modifiers . For every weapon dmg type you could use there was a resistance to it another could use to defend against it . However building your skills raised your combat level across the board much like a normal leveling system . Yet at the same time , You were able to distribute those attributes into areas that suited your play style which normal leveling systems normally do not offer . In the end when you have your skills maxed out you have created your Combat level .The areas you placed your skills determines your attack and defensive multipliers in combat .

For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson

In the preCU combat system, your basic health, action, and mind pool points did not change by adding skill boxes.

They changed only when you used buffs, be they medical or chef.

The CU introduced the "your health bar is bigger!" system that we have today.

You could modify your attribute bars (there were nine total) within a certain range based on your race.  For example, Wookiees had more health to play with, MonCals had more mind to play with.  Humans fell in the middle of the spectrum.  There was a fixed pool of how many attribute points you had to move around...you could give yourself more mind pool points by giving up some health or action, for example.

Jedi also had a force bar in addition to the other nine.  It grew as you added Jedi skill boxes.  But basic health, action, and mind, with their secondaries, did not change because you gained XP for a new skill box.

XP was much more complex in the preCU era...you had XP for each weapon type, and you could apply that XP to skils for that weapon type...be it unarmed, one handed melee, two handed melee, pikes, pistols, carbines, rifles, or heavy weapons.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

PVE makes it difficult for me to keep playing SWG. Crafting, spacecombat, my city, some queststories, beast mastery and the exploring are very interesting.

The PVE combatmechanics however are one of the most bugged Ive seen in MMO's. Mobs that stand inside you. "Can't see target" msg when a mob has a foot/paw behind a little rock, while they keep shooting you meanwhile. Droideka's with a huge target rectangle making you target your droideka every time instead of the hostiles..random target selection bug with tab (friendlies in space and ground) etc etc

The only way to deal with that in a slightly efficient way is to use auto aim and repeating auto attack toggle. And that just makes PVE very shallow in this game because of the basic set of specials (compared to other MMO's)for combat professions .

So I really think that players who expect a real challenging and dynamic PVE environment and dont care much about the sandbox idea, will be disappointed with SWG.

I'd prefer a dynamic environment (not static) but I realize that is nearly impossible to find. Lots of large worlds to explore?
    Anyone feel like selling SWG?

14 day trial is free. I suggest that since you have nothing better to do you download it and try it out.

I've been playing since patch 5 ish before the CU. I quit just after CU and came back a few months ago.

I logged in and decided to try and play the game for what it was, on vet trial. I resubbed because I had fun. Here I am. I've played 8 MMOs since I quit SWG, got tired of them (or banned in one case) and this one has me back. To tell the truth there isn't much out there that's any good. SWG still has "it" whatever it is.

I did a WoW trial and got bored and stopped playing before my time was up. Not my type of game.

I played Eve for 2 years. I got sick of the end game/alliance war isk grind. You lose  your ship when you die and I got sick of grinding for two weeks every time I lost a battleship and having to fly interceptors in fleet battles, and taking the shit from the FC because I wasn't in a BS.

SWG has no death penalty so pvp is excellent for someone that doesn't have 8 hours a day to grind money. Some MMO's require you to more or less quit your job to play effectively, swg doesn't so it works for me.

PvP is a riot and I have more fun doing that than any game I've played. I die and don't need to fly 18 jumps to get back into the fight.

I guess it depends on what you are into.... I love pvp and swg allows me to do it endlessly without any type of grind. I'd rather pull my thumbnails off with pliers than grind money in a game. I just love the fights.
