Looking for a Creative MMORPG

RoninSzakyRoninSzaky Member UncommonPosts: 63

Hi guys!

First of all I would like to say this is a great site and I like it, even if this is my first post in the forum . Actually I've got a small problem with MMOs because I bored all day grinding, pvping and so on. But I still would like to play with an MMO coz I still have 1-2 hours freetime to waste . So I need something creative, wich is non based on killing mobs or pvping; but based on building up your house, crafting items and stuff like that.

So I am waiting your advises, and I hope you know some games wich are suitable for me in these times.

A lot of games now have significant crafting and housing for players. Unfortunatly those are usually secondary aspects of the game. MOst games are still Grind Grind untill you can get the level, wealth, or items that allow you to really enjoy crafting or Home design. If you are looking for something very creative without a basic game design..I suggest Second Life. Its not a game, but you can go right into Designing a house and crafting is basically learning to code.

    Good luck

    Possibly consider these games:

    Wurm Online

    Horizons

    A Tale in the Desert

These games are some that I know of that focus alot on crafting and house building.  I would have suggested Ryzom, but it seems they can't keep the Yubo's fed enough to run the treadmills.

I would actually suggest either EVE Online, Second Life or UO.

EVE Online your skills increase even if your offline so your actual playtime does not affect progress (that much). Also how you play is completely up to you, you can be a trader, a miner, a crafter whatever. There is PvE and PvP but its your choice... except for when your mining and someone threatens to kill you if you don't pay them off :)

Second life is another do whatever you want/or nothing type of game. It's more about design and creating clothes, buildings and has a lot of social aspects.

UO has a lot more PvE and PvP than the previous two I mentioned. But again you could be a 100% crafter and not bother with combat at all. This game is a bit out-dated however and has a smaller community.

i am exactly looking for the same type of game probably as you are,

like an mmorpg or maybe even mmog with fighting and lvling sure, but no grinding.. i mean a game where lvling doesnt affect your status in game really, and its more about community,

EVE online wont fit i dont think because you maybe not have to grind, but you have to farm for cash and supplies, to get near the lvl of the veterans

Second Life is a bit overdoing our purpose since its nothing like RPG's its just real life in a virtual world,

UO i have yet to try, but i hear you do have to grind and get lvls to get good stuff ingame,

second life is worth a glance.  though should be avoided unless it's the closest thing you want.

complete server instability, retards, and that fact that it's like the internet but worse on the whole porn thing(by percent since SL is small).  you can choose to avoid the last two kinda sorta.

as for it's creation system you can make quite a few things and it has a powerful scripting engine to boot.  and if you go in with a few relevant skills you can have the game completely pay for itself and live richly in it.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

If it's crafting you're looking for then I would suggest Vanguard. There are three separate spheres and one of which is crafting. You can pretty much level up your crafting without putting much effort into your adventuring sphere.

You can choose to become a Blacksmith, an Outfitter or an Artificer. Later on, these are broken down into another specialization:

    Blacksmith - Armoursmith or Weaponsmith

    Outfitter - Leatherworker or Tailor

    Artificer - Carpenter or Stonemason.

You can craft armour, weapons, boats and construct houses depending on your crafting specialization.

I suggest checking out the Vanguard Crafters community at: http://www.vanguardcrafters.com/forum/

    I hope this helps

    checkout WELL online

its not out yet, made by russians, and doesnt have english forums yet

but it sure as hell sounds way different than any MMO i have played

the developers seemed to really think out every aspect and i love that type of attitude

well the thing is uo isnt based on lvls. you go by skills. you start all skills at 0 but the max skill you can get is 120. but theres also a skil lcap which means once you reach the skill cap of 700 you cant gain skill anymore. it dont take long at all to get to 120 on certain skills.

Bump! Coz I still need one !

Btw I tried many of the games listed in your posts, but even if the idea of Wurm online and  A Tale in the Desert is cool, the realization is bleeding from many wounds...

Second Life is not what I need, I am okey with my life and makes nonsense for me to live another life in a game like this if the real is much better!

Eve online sounds good but I am not sure I would like to travel in the space in an MMO, who knows...

Horizons has terrible graphics wich wouldn't be a problem if it was a free game or something like that because it is ridicuolus to ask money for something wich is look like that... I am sure Vanguard could be my MMORPG because it has no monthly fee but unfortunately I can't try It because I could'nt find any trial account or something...

So if anyone still know a good MMORPG wich is NOT based on grining then plz post in this thread!

P.S.: I would be happy if you were post MMOs with many skills (like mining, woodcutting etc. [but please forget RuneScape coz I hate it....).

Just so you know, Vanguard does have a monthly fee.

You would've really liked SWG pre-NGE. I mastered a few different professions but I had the most fun with my Master Ranger / Master Bio-Engineer. I was able to get the highest quality DNA samples and had a lot of fun creating pets for folks. I partnered with another Bio-Engineer who made enhanced clothing and we were two of the most popular BE's on the server. We both had more money than we knew what to do with!

Anyways, there were tons of folks that took up trades and had successful businesses and I know they made a lot of friends in the process.

Ohh, really Vanguard has a monthly fee and you have to buy the game too. Anyway if there is a trial for it let me know I try it then.

SW Galaxies ?! Might worth a try even if I am waiting for the Star Trek mmo .

If you play a Trader profession in SWG then you don't have to have anything to do with combat, although you'll still need to work your way up your crafting levels.  The crafting part of SWG is really it's own seperate game, not something on the side like in most other MMO's.  As well as that, SWG has a pretty detailed housing system that gives you alot of freedom in the ways you can decorate your house (or ship if you'd prefer).

"Creative MMORPG".... I think you've discovered a new oxymoronic phrase.

But I'd say everyone's pretty much given you a good rundown of the best crafting games out there, at least on the P2P side.  Maybe the F2P world has something for you (but you already said you hate Runescape)

Thanks guys! But I found a quite good MMORPG called Entropia Universe. It has a complex system wich looks good even if it's based on luck in some ways. In some elements it looks similar to second life but you have many craft skills and many other. There is no levels just your skills, but I think it's extremely hard cause by the Real Cash Economy system wich isn't  favorable for me. However I think you guys should check it out: http://www.entropiauniverse.com/

Thanks your help again, have fun in the future!

While it does not have a massive playerbase (it is more of a boutique, maybe even a niche, multiplayer online game), Toadwater has no mob killing and is based on building up your "base" with fences and other defensive items most of which are crafted out of trees that you cultivate/harvest:

It is free to download and free to play -- becoming a member for a one-time fee of US$5 allows access to skills like cooking and mining but I would not recommend that until you have played it a while.

It is certainly out of the ordinary and can be grindy ... but for some strange reason folks (like me) have continued to play it for years.
