Perfect world that good?

DesetesDesetes Member UncommonPosts: 88

I see people praising it here alot, so is it that perfect? How's it compare to pay to play games such as WoW? Do alot of people play it?

And here's a good question. If Perfect World was pay to play ($15/month) would you pay that?

i've paid 15 bucks a month for much worse games than perfect world that's for sure. it's a good solid game, and for a completely free to play game, it's one of the best.

I got all excited hearing about this "Perfect World" game.  I've been searching for an MMO.  However when I go to the link provided by mmorpg.com I get an error page stating the link is invalid or gone.  It also states on the game information page on this site that it is in development?? I'm confused.  I'd really like to try this game out, is the link bad or what?

I've been playing Perfect World pretty heavily. The only thing that distracts me from playing it all the time it is Hellgate: London, which is amazing.

It's worth trying, definitely on par with pay to play games. Since it's free, it's even better.

    Honestly, its meh.

Bad graphics, clunky animations, same generic kill 5 moths stuff.  There are some really bizarre mounts in the game though. Really boring combat.

But it's free so how can you complain? At least there ARE quests unlike 90% of asian grind fest MMO's most people saying it's so good haven't got past L 30 in the game, lol.

I prefer Hellgate:London myself since someone brought it up.

He was asking about PW not Vanguard...

It's overall a really fun game. There's alot of diversity in weapons, and build styles which is nice. Instances are pretty dull it seems until the last boss which is exciting and the loot is pretty good. The quests are repetitive "go kill x amount of y," but that doesn't make this game bad by far. The map is fairly large. There's alot of different mounts which is also cool. Open world PvP starts at level 30, and you can just go PK someone out of a safe zone (towns, etc). The English translation at this point in time isn't great, but Cubizone does have English speaking people (people that speak English as their first language)editing out the rough translation. It is pretty bug free, and is overall worth the download by far, this game will keep you occupied for awhile.

Okay so I downloaded PW and started playing tonight.  First of all I wish all the "pay" mmo's would take a look at this "FREE" mmo and learn about character customization.  I spent at least an hour making my first character!! I was in awe of all the choices given!! Not only can you customize the body type but they get so detailed down to the application and color of the females eyeshadow.  I mean there are well over 20 styles of eyeshadow and infinite colors.  It's a shame that most MMO's over look this.  I know most people play these games for the combat but I love the Role playing as well and to be able to look completely unique is such a nice change of pace.

Yes the graphics are a bit rough but for free..not at all.  I think the graphics are well done at least what i've seen so far.  I made a werefox character and already at level 3 I got my first pet, I didn't even realize this racial class got pets lol, i was completely surprised by that but then it clicked as to why the race is called beastmaster..duh.  lol.

All in all if you are looking for something free that's not the same old mmo give this one a try.  Also I despise "point and click" play.  This game gives you the option of point and click or the U.S. favorite ; W,S,A,D keys for movement.  I think I just found my home.  Now I just need to find other english speaking players, so far I haven't seen any.  But then again I was too busy learning the UI and map to really pay attention to the chat.

This game will grow on you. When I first started playing it really didn't catch my attention, but the more I did the more I enjoyed it. The game has a pretty decent crafting system. PVP sure is interesting with a multitude of builds and skills you can choose from. Right now, the only let down is the lack of english speaking players. I can't wait for the new english-my servers to go live.

Well I was playing and I was getting lag. It was 291MS which is apparently "Good" according to the game. When ever I clicked a spell it took like a second for it too happen.

hmmm I haven't had this problem at all in the game.  I just asked two of my friends who I also got to try the game out and they also have no lag issues at all.  Which is unusal for one because his computer is older.  Maybe you were playing at a peak time or something, then again maybe it is something to do with the wipe that's coming.  Could be that fixes are in order as well when they wipe the servers.  I hope you have better luck next time you're in game.

    English is live. http://perfectworld.com.my/

No need to play the Chinese with translation patches anymore.

Heh, you just missed the end of the CBT...  if there are are no delays, though, the OB should begin in about a week.

  • DevelopmentDevelopment Member Posts: 52

Well that is what everyone is hoping for, on the PW-forums the GM's are trying to make sure to let everyone know that there has not been an official date announced for OB. So it could take longer.

Lets all hold hands and pray it does not lol

I don't get it, PW is not that great of a game, it's just - ok.

It seems like whenever a new F2P game comes out - people come out of the wood work saying, this is the best game ever! I read the posts all the time, about AL, TR, 2Moons, Rappelz and now PW. It seems Asian free games make teens lose thier brain cells or something - it's the only way I can explain it.

    Honestly it's not that good.

If you like it great, but it's not a "great" game - it's very average.

Actually, it's way above the average F2P game, you can't argue with that. I mean, it has more than 5000 quests! (i know that they are not that original or something) I mean 5000 quests are a lot, no more pointless grinding, now you can actually complete something when you go grind ^^ And there are the... ah no. I am not listing game features again, there are quite lot of feature telling posts. Just try the game when OB is out, you'll see ^^ And btw, it has the best graphics i've seen in an mmo so far (P2P and F2P) The views from high above can't compare to nothing that other mmos have to offer...So far that is, when Aion is out it'll destroy every other game in graphics, i hope in gameplay too...

  • OBK1OBK1 Member Posts: 637

I would say a much more interesting question would be, is it as good as the best pay to play games? That would be the only interesting question to have answered for me, as I prefer to pay for quality instead of playing sub-par games for free.

Also, I suppose that when this game goes live there will be an item shop etc. and then it really is not that free to play anymore is it?

Anyway, since I have not played PW I shall not beat down on it, instead how would you compare it to say, WoW, EQ2 or Lotro?

  • daemondaemon Member UncommonPosts: 680

    Lets see...

Graphics = awesome. Havent seen a mmo looking that good yet. Sure I havent tried all but considering I can play this on max details on a pretty old PC and it goes so smooth.. its amazing.

Beautiful water both from inside or outside.. You will love getting wet. Going hunting underwater and looking up at a moving sky, light reflections extremely well done, seeing the trees moving in the wind even from  deep inside the water ... damn it really looks real.

All landscapes beautifuly done, all plants look alive and moving in the wind, rainbows near water falls, air bubbles in the water look great, birds always flying in a ever moving sky, clouds look great, the sun looks like a damn SUN should look. I could go on and on.

Interface/control = lovely. sure its not like WoW, cant customize that much but its well done, very complex and just right. You can inspect people to see their gear just like in WoW. The action house seemed decently done, Mail box seemed abit complex.

The map is very well made, coordinates are near the little map in the screen corner, you can search there in a box for NPCs by name or coordinates. Arrows directing you on the screen to easily find what you need in quest related locations and alot of little details and options that can help you with everything.

    Control:

/ Both point and click and WASD movement controls just like in WoW both working perfectly.

Some peeps complain about being laggy and that controls arent so smooth.

Usually Im around 300 ms latency on the .my server but movement and control worked smooth for me.

More then decent considering Im playing on a server located in ASIA. half word away.

Character customization = outstanding. Again.. havent seen a mmo yet getting even close. You can customize everything, even little lines of makeup or drawing on cloth that you can put over any armor and milions of features.

Sound/Music = medium Well no game is perfect.. even this so called Perfect World. Sound seems nice and everything,  but the music sucks. I mean the ambience stuff is ok but the general music.. come on DEVs get a dude that can do some music. theres like 3-4 songs all sounding kinda same too me. maybe its just the ASIA style music that doesnt get through or its just me.

Content = cant say.  3 races, each race has 2 classes so its 6 classes but you can build each class very different from each other depending on gameplay style or choice. At each level you make you get points that you can spend in Int Con Str Dex etc. Each one having a heavy impact on your damage, your defense, survivalbility, hp/mana pool, crit chance .. you know the works.

There are a few thousand quests. some say over 5000. I didnt play that much to do more then a few quests. I started to grind in the first 5 minutes and it was so nice that I couldnt stop doing it.  End game must be a mistery. Only the chinese should know how it is. I couldnt find any info in english anywhere.

Also the NPC AI didnt seem that great but I didnt get in any instance, didnt see any BOSS yet so cant really say.

Now talking about mounts... oh man its crazy. You can ride so many things in this game its confusing.

Saw horses, raptors, lions, even pigs lol.

Got into town saw people flying with wings or different sorts of birds or weird animals, saw some guy flying on a big AWESOME looking sword. You can even fight while flying on some, dont know which didnt get there yet.

Theres tons of pets, anyone can have pets, certain classes can use them in battle too.

Player housing and marriage isnt yet introduced ( in the english version at least) they are working on the next patches to put it in.

I know there are castle sieges and big zones with pvp objectives and such.

Of course you can duel and the usual stuff like Arenas. Havent try cant say how it works.

Itemizaton = outstanding: I got lost and confused here at some point. The itemization is crazy.

Tons of weapon types and armors and options on them. From stats improving, enchanting, socket imporvements, color glowing modificatons, unique items etc You'd be amazed.

Crafting/Professions, No one is limited to a number of profesions they can do. You can make armors, weapons, potions the works, gather your materials (with the right tool), trade for rare materials, enchants whatever you want.. total freedom here. I didnt get much into it, I hope others can share more about this.

What else could I say about this game.. it has everything you could think of. Im sure im missing alot of stuff and I didnt play that much to know more but for a free game.. its GREAT

Alot better them most P2P games out there.

Sure there are item malls. So you have to pay for some items but nothing crucial like weapons or something that can give you anything to make you imbalanced over the others.

You can buy pots, rare mounts or some extra enchanting materials which are nice but all items even the ones from item shops can drop or can be bought for gold from the players after for a little extra.

We are not used to the Asian model of F2P but I find it better in some cases. I dont have to spend 50 $ for a game to find for myself that I dont like it.

Its free give it a try and judge for urself.

Thank you Daemon, exactly the kind of post I was hoping for!

Only problem is you got me interested in the game and I don't have enough time for another MMO, argh!

All I can say is that I like Perfect World a LOT, and I'm planning on some game time when the OB starts for the english.my version.

I had played the pay games until this summer, and I'm still involved with EQ2.  So I'm new to the F2P type of game.

I played 2Moons starting in August, and it's a *decent* game.  I won't bag on it, as it has potential of its own as/if Acclaim works on it.

But Perfect World is that much better.  I can put up with the horrible translation, lack of voice-overs, and the built-in lag from servers 10K miles away because it's FREE.  The graphics are well-done, there's enough to do with the quests and the size of the map, and the classes are all unique in some way.

I only worry about a grind at some point, and the small skill trees that probably lead to Optimum Builds(tm) but the FREE part mitigates that for me - if I end up playing only occasionally, it's just my time I've "wasted", not my money.

It has my recommendation for sure - the game won't be for everyone, but no game is.  There's a LOT of design choices some of the the pay games should consider yesterday.

Finally, when I first learned about the super-jumping PC's can do, I kinda thought it was over the top dumb.  After using it for a couple of weeks, I find jumping in other games terribly limiting     If a NA company gets to host this and modify it, there's only a few tweaks they'd have to do to have a solid game from Day 1.

    Avatars are people too
