Hey that's basically what I did. Never heard or bothered looking at MMORPG.com until someone posted the information on our webpage about the beta. Just to do it I went ahead and signed up and almost won. But loss due to my own laziness of not jumping on the PC because I didn't check the page prior I lost. So all in all that's probably a good thing. I did however hope to get another beta account for someone in my guild or a backup if mine falls though.
But here's the deal... your an idiot if you don't think the BETA giveaway was used as a marketing ploy to get more members to the board. I'll probably read this once a week or so mainly because there's more up to date EQ2 information off our guild boards. But I will use this site to mainly read up on some of these other games that are out.
If you feel you 'deserve' an EQ2 beta more then other people then maybe you should of played EQ from day 1, kept your account active, join legends, buy Lords of Everquest and ensure you have a fast ass machine. If you didn't siphen money into SOE then don't expect a beta app. If you did do all those things then more then likely you'll get a beta account..(this information is based on past SOE expierances on how prior beta's were run.)

First of all, no kidding its to draw people to the site. Second of all you would think it fair to give older members a slight edge in hopes of retaining them, otherwise whats the point of hanging around if everytime theres a beta 5,000 new people join? Thirdly I played EQ1 for three years and so I am kept out of their initial beta just because my account is no longer active (which is ridiculous since they still got 3 years of my funds). That is all Im off to the store and vacation.

Well lets see... what makes SOE money? You posting a lot on this board or you paying for EQ for 5+ years? Since SOE is all about money I'm voting on the later... in that case you have a better shot at the EQ2 beta if you paid for EQ for a long long time.
So I think this contest was run fair... seemed to be completely random. But I think SOE will be issuing them based on programs and subscriptions you've had. So 5+ years beats your 3 years non-active... sorry wait for release.

That was actually my fault for wording my post wrong - I understand that you don't like the fact that people who haven't been involved in the place have got as much chance as winning as a regular member, I get that you don't have anything against the people themselves.
PS It's been sunny for the last week or so here. Much lazing on the grass has been had by all. "Come to Britain - It doesn't rain *every* day!" (TM)

I didnt read everything but id like to say to original poster that not everyone who won doesnt care about MMORPG.com ..
This place is my homepage, and i come to forums everyday mostly .. i only post in the ones that i am really interested in .. mostly i dont post on any forums
