The server situation is still being talked about, so nothing is set in stone.

Apart from that I am looking forward to enjoying with my guild and my friends very much so.

My optimism continues to grow with every screenshot, video, interview, and news article released. For the other 3 upcoming MMORPGS I am following it is the exact opposite. I dig the violence, the mature rating, the sexuality, the 3 human-based(Only) races, the art style, the seige warfare, the combat mechanics, and the overall balance of the game.

I'd like player housing, UO or SWG-like customization of armor, clothes, and weapons, more open pvp/looting/stealing, and possibly even personal Ships with open sea warefare(Nothing fancy, even just standard pvp while standing on a boat or on opposing boats in the case of archery). Oh, and lastly, I'd like to see crafting take on the same importance it did for Pre-Trammel UO and Early SWG. You can't be a hero unless you can save the innocent. A Swordsman/Tailor isn't as innocent as a Tailor/Carpenter.

To make my statement short and sweet: I await this game with much passion. Will it be that breakthrough title that we've been waiting for? Or is it destined to perish, as have all who have challenged the great WOW monster?  On a side note, The graphics look simply amazing, but great graphics do not a great game make.

I already have the AoC reserved from Gamestop since April. I can't wait for it to come out (Although Mass Effect, CoD4 and maybe Tabula Rasa might keep me a bit busy until the day AoC releases!) and my friends feel the same way.

Explain what you mean by rude. Some examples would be good.

I've spent a lot of time in NYC and I've never met a single rude person, though they must exist. People from outside of NYC swear they are all rude. I just don't see it.

Recently, I went up to see a concert in MSG (Madison Square Garden) and spent the whole day there. Shopping, drinking with random people at happy hour, the whole bit. I didn't know a soul and people were nothing but nice to me.

I randomly went to a family owned pizza shop in the middle of Brooklyn and they treated me like they'd known me 20 years (and gave me the best slice I've ever had in my life, for $1.75). I was looking for a friend's apartment and got hungry.

I've been on extended contracts for up to 3 weeks straight, same deal. I've seen some scary people at the end of the subway, at 1AM, but even they weren't exactly rude. They just did what they were doing and left me alone.

I wouldn't advise wearing your Baltimore Orioles colors to a Yankee game, but other than that New Yorkers are sensible nice people mostly. What the hell are you talking about?

Have to admit having played a number of games on both European and US servers, the Euro servers tended to be a much more interesting place to play.

The problem with Americans is not that they are rude: in my experience they are not, they are extremely polite in conversation.  It's that they are entirely unhelpful to strangers.  An example that stuck with me - a woman was rushing to catch the subway, and slipped on the polished marble floor.  She went down hard, it obviously hurt, groceries bouncing out of the packets.  She got up, tears choked back in her eyes, and rushed to the carriage leaving her groceries behind her, but the doors closed and it pulled out without her.   No-one helped her pick up her groceries, no-one stood in the doorway to hold the subway for the brief moment needed for her to alight, no-one gathered up her fallen groceries and handed them to her, no-one said anything.

I was in the States for major specialist surgery that was not available here.  When I got home I couldn't help but notice the difference - people offer to help, discretely of course not to be rude, but they do.  If you drop a bunch of coins on the sidewalk by accident, people will help you pick them up and give them all back to you.  I don't know why the Americans were the way they were, maybe they were scared of getting sued or something.  But one on one they were really nice, but in public there was a coldness to them.

Anyway, back to AoC.  When I first saw this game I thought "tacky splatter game with gimmicks", but now I'm genuinely interested.  It looks like it will have a lot more depth in areas like crafting and gear than most other games, and could actually hold my interest long term.  I wait with keen interest to see if it delivers on its promise.

You're right about the American situation, and being an American its kinda sad. Its not that they're afraid they're going to get sued or anything, its because the American society has become more of a "Self-help" society. If it doesn't benefit you, you're not interested. This is unfortunate as it amplifies a lot of greed that would otherwise stay low in key. As well, you get a lot of incidents like the woman in the subway. Its a shame really, but there are still those of us who go out of our way to help others. Primarily the "Self-help" situation is only found in large cities or the capital cities of the states. Whereas if you go to more rural areas you'll find people regularly wave as you go down the road, they're very polite, help you when you need it, and say their please and thank you's. unlike their urban counter-parts.

    But, onto AoC

As for the server thing, its now official i believe. Servers WILL be separated via European and North American. This will be done to ensure the best latency on servers. So we don't have American players on a german server hitting pings of 300+ and visa versa with European players on North American servers.

But as for AoC, i'm quite interested in the game. I've been in beta for alot of the other upcoming games pre-open beta (Tabula Rasa and Pirates of the Burning sea to name two) but haven't had the chance to get into the AoC beta unfortunately. I'm hoping come this Friday or so when they open up a whole boat-load of beta keys that I'll get the chance to test the game and decide whether its worth my time and money or not, as well as help out the development team before OB. From what i've seen the game looks at least very promising, and i've gotten sick of the WoW-themed games circulating the development desks thus far. I always wanted something that fell in the GENERAL theme area of WoW (Swords, armor, and demons) that didn't have prissy little night elves dancing on the tables, pink-haired gnomes and a cartoon-ish graphics theme. Hopefully, that something will be Age of Conan. The PvP system and even general PvE systems seem innovative, beheading, bar fights, and so on... and the graphics are.. well to put it 50's like.. swell. Very swell mister. I love the fact that everyone is human.. like i said above.. no prissy night elves and pink-haired gnomes.. the game is very gritty and down to earth. No fantasy here.. just blood, guts, and gore. Awesome.

I've always liked the Conan stories as well, though i never got into the comics.. i really can't wait to see how they follow through with the theme.. I just hope they put their hearts into it and not just their wallets and financial interests. Doing so would most definitely give them a GoTY, or so i believe.

Best of luck to them, and i'm looking forward to AoC. Its got huge promise, but with all the recent let-downs such as Vanguard and the lot.. I can't help but fear for Conan.

As to the admittedly offtopic bit about people being unhelpful on American streets, its not entirely due to any particular lack of desire to help, it is in part the shitty use our legal system is being put to these days, and also a severe lack of trust among strangers. If for instance I saw a young child alone and tried to help him find his/her parents, if someone saw me doing so, I could easily be dragged into court for attempted kidnapping or worse. I wish I were joking, but I happen to know a young man who failed to prove himself innocent in such a matter and is still in jail for his "actions". As another example, I was there for a similar situation as described above. I did try to help. The woman drew back as if I was threatening to drag her off for a long rape session and practically screamed at me to get the hell away from her. Now, I'm a big man, and in the right light I guess I could look somewhat threatening, but it was just rediculous.

Concerning the server split, it could prove a hell of a problem for guilds like mine, we have a lot of people spread out all over the world. Splitting up is not going to be easy at all, and we are searching for alternatives.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
