TCoS: Only MMO Getting It Right

Unless you've been too busy inhaling massive amounts of lamesauce like WAR or AoC, you've at least checked out The Chronicles of Spellborn.

I'm here to tell you to check it again, and be ready to be converted. You will thank me afterwards.

This game is set to break the mold, in a good way. The art style is unique, the mechanics are golden. The key element that grabs is the combat.

t's not your typical target>click icons game. No, you actually need to aim. And not like the garbage that Tabula Rasa invented, that just replaced EQ combat with repeatedly smashing your face on your left mouse button. That's no improvement. In TCoS, you aim your spells similar to that of Diablo 2. This fast action style will take the MMO world by storm. They also invented a genious "skill desk" system, which I won't waste time getting into, but the gist is that it's a tiered hotbar type system.

The second key element is that there's no stupid healer classes. Yes, no more will some poor soul be forced to roll a healer to get a group, then stand in the back and push buttons. In TCoS, everyone heals.

The final key element that catches the eye is the armor. There are no +15 Swords of 1000 Truths. You design cloths to look good. Your character looks how you want, not how the armor model is made.

Trust me, there is a lot more. The PvP with this combat system will be ubertastic, oh yes. Guild vs Guild areanas, conquerable PvP zones. What more can you want?

Do yourself a favor, check it out. And if you must reply to this thread, it better be a whopping

I AGREE!...figured I better get that out of the way .hehe.  I've been waiting and waiting for this game to be out and it seems to be taking forever but if it is all that you say it is it's well worth the wait.  I am so sick of the mmo's out there that make everyone look alike regarding armor.  WOW being the perfect example.  The character customization is very limited and to top that off I then am forced to wear the same armor as any other person in my class...BORING.  I know this game is mostly for guys..at least it seems to be.  I don't know any females that love walking around in the same outfit as every other female warrior, hunter, priest etc.  Anyway I'm not here to bash WOW just giving them as an example.

TCOS caught my eye long ago because of their customization promises.  They want the players to look good from day one, to feel unique to actually be an individual not a cookie cutter of everyone else.  Even the combat/skill set is designed this way.  I'm sooooo yearning for this game to go live so I can be the first one online at my local game store to get it.  I just hope it's not going to be alot longer.

P.S..  No set healer class... AMEN!!! I always felt sorry for the healers, they get yelled at if they miss a heal yet if they aren't around ppl b#@#@ until they find them.   I played a healer once and deleted the character after a month.  While I liked the class I hated the attitudes you get from players.  This way of working the game is great, everyone heals so everyone can take a turn at it, what a concept!

Yuppers, have had a look at it. Seems like it could be fun. Concerning healing. Yes, it sucks when someone is expected to do it. But think of the chaotic scene that ensues when anyone can heal but nobody does. Since it is the least liked job by most I do wonder if no specific great healer is like having roomates that all leave the dishes in the sink until someone "feels" like doing them. How long will they sit there until someone steps up.

How often do the same people have to step up before they start feeling like a martyr all over again. I get the idea that there will still be some relegated to doing it... it just may be a little different. Instead of 3 targets to heal, maybe it will be more like basketball and you will cover one character with a big rock paper scissors line of if x gets attacked, you y have their heals on down the line. The problem there becomes a dynamic pickup and awareness when your "cover" dies, who will step up and remember that they now have 2 to take care of - their original cover and now you. Over heals and wasted casts are bound to happen without some form of control in healing if it's all left to chance.

    No healer class?

They're not getting my money or my time, then.

And I had such high hopes for Spellborn, too.

I don't care if something breaks the mold.  I just want a game that's FUN!

You can be a healer, if you setup your skill decks with all buff and heal combo's, and support stuff. Can save that setup, and change it when soloing, or change it when you wanna tank whatever.

Everyone doesn't start with everything, skills and spells are earned.

About the items. There's different ways of modifying your characters strength. They will not be overwhelming, but it will not affect the looks of your character. Meaning that you won't see 15 T2 shamans running around in the same outfit.

You are entirely free to think of your own set of items and the game allows you to earn new ways of customization and more unique customizations. (whether this will lead to everyone wearing the unique ones remains to be seen)

Thank you very much, another reason to ignore this game.

I want to play an RPG, not another solo game with glorified multiplayer.

In TCoS everyone can use some healing abilities some classes have more.  if you want to follow the trinity of doom you can.  there are no mechanics preventing you from being a healer if you want to be.  although forcing someone to be a healer is not needed.

so much for the 1337's that rant in forums wanting something different when they turn their nose up at there being no priest with only healing abilities class.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

I hope you're right. I don't exactly have a lot of faith in this industry, anymore.

Me too. And although Spellborn will be solo friendly to some extend, the real fun starts when teaming up with a group of friends. The combat system combined with the unique classes will make group combat in this game very rewarding.

To bad your sig says  (Future): PotBS, WAR

I thought your comments about being against War was funny considering your sig.

I think this game has some good features but it is not the best game that will take the MMORPG world by storm like you say it will. People rather are simple minded when it comes to buying what is hot at the moment. I see this game as nothing more then a niche market because the others are so big and got much hype. That being said I doubt you will see this game take off really strong even though it is very nice and has some good ideas. I may even try it out, just depends on the future of it.

As for me POTBS is the ground breaking MMORPG of 2008 I think. War is just another clone copy of WOW with DAOC and AOC will be nothing short of just another MMORPG out on the market. Mad scientist beware.

However it plays out I think this game still looks really decent for what they offer, it's just not a big title in my opinion. Like I said I think it's going to be a niche game because the others are so much bigger in terms of name and hype. Marketing plays a big role in that also.

It''s been on my radar for quite some time. Since 2005 in fact. However, calling this game 'the only MMO getting it right' is a bit overdone. Have you played it at all? Or is this another case of overhyping a game before it even has been released?

Considering the amount of polishing that game still needs that might become 2009, but interesting that game certainly is. Maybe even ground breaking, but will it be fun?

The release date has been officially promoted for a early 08 release. Flying Labs has been 100% honest with it's fans.

Edit: Looked at your other posts, no wonder your against POTBS or any other game Your a fanboi of TCOS, thats OK though, I never expected a hardcore fan whos only interested in one game to have quality views about other games.

You are right, a little bit of modesty would be in order here. But the game is certainly a big promise. Still needs to deliver, but signs so far are good.

Honesty has nothing to do with it. Game development is most unpredictable. I am just an outsider of course, looking at it from a distance, but in the present state it looks like the game needs a lot of polish. I have difficulty to believe they will actually release the game that early, but maybe the game is much further than I could gather from the recent information and video (it usually is).

Edit: Oh, and I rephrased my remark before I saw your post. I really don't mean to bash PotBS. And about being a fanboi: yes, I sometimes show dangerous signs of being one, but I will deny it, of course.

But POTBS is EVE in a pirate ship..nothing groundbreaking there..

    I agree partly.

They seem to be doing everything right. They are saying all ythe right things as well. And they seem to be trying new stuff.

But im not like you because I havent made up my mind, nor will i until I see the game in action and other games out there in action. Then Ill choose the 1 for me and I wont call the game thats not for me names like "lamesauce."  Ill just be happy that there are gaming options for people out there even if it isnt for me.

Fair enough, but how can you tell how much polish a game needs by simply looking at videos and reading? I find that statement quit unfair when you say the game needs a lot of polish. I mean I can never tell how much a game needs polishing or fixing by just looking at the videos and reading. Man I must of missed something, call me dumb.

Well, me too. I even believe 2008 will be the best year we had in a long time in that respect. Well, at least in potential. 2007 looked just as promising, and well, the rest is history.

I can see this game being pushed back for sure. However, since I read more about it I must say, it really catering to years of crying out for something like this. Im just worried they are taking too much on their plate at once like Vanguard and stuff.....but lets all hope for the best

    I play all ghame

Well I like some aspects about TCoS io hope in giving it a try in open beta, BUT, Im a healer, I like the healer role, so, I know, I will probably not like TCoS. Is a bad move, at least IMHO, to drop the healer class. Think about RF Online or ArchLord, No-Healer-Class games, they are a Health Potions smashers. I hope they desing a good combat system, TCoS looks good and innovative I want it to be a great succesfull, but i doubt it. I think we can just, Wait And See.
