There's a post on the SWG O boards: He is no longer with the company.

I don't claim to be right, I'm just posting.

Another person who cared about the game fired. I bet they disband the senate.

  • soecabalsoecabal Member Posts: 115

He was completely unqualified for the job, and did nothing at all to improve from there.

Every time the idiot opened his mouth and spoke about Pre-NGE they probably could feel the subscriber loss.  Furthermore, his handling of EVERY situation (most notably the "War of the Medic Senator Sucession" in which he very publicaly and unapologeticly f'ed over Bloodfin) was nothing less than a complete disaster.

He should have been fired then.

But SOE is so full of incompetence that mediocrity is mistaken for genius, that true, CATASTROPHIC incompetence is slow to be discovered.

Now, if they want a REAL community manager, they need to start talking to the COMMUNITY for once.

They already have, essentially.  Senators now are reduced to posting "Top 5 lists" in their forums again for the Devs to ignore.

SOE was willing to roll back at least THAT part of the game ;)

Let's stop this rumor right now, there are no drastic changes coming like the NGE. We won't be making that mistake again. What's on Test Center is what is coming. Then Chapter 8 space content.

So he admits its a mistake also yet they STILL refuse to give us classic. From what guys are posting he seems to be very popular, that Greypawn.

Also from reading his blog he obviously spoke his mind to someone he shouldn't. So basicly because he wasn't a yes man hes gone!

Also, you read those posts and current players say the NGE sucks yet $OE keep plodding away at it. Absolutely crazy. Bravo $OE you really know what your customers want!

It's really ironic that they use the argument of how horrific a mistake the NGE was AGAINST us when we ask for our game back...  "Not going to drastically change again" my ass, go ask the medics who had a core ability stripped, and their effectiveness in guild wars eliminated.

They just don't want to do classic or to change it back because of the opposite reason:  IT WOULD BE PRAISED, thus proving that all their "efforts" (efforts on the scale of quality as the Tampa Bay Devil rays) were a complete waste of time.

    Latest Developments

For me, being Community Manager for Star Wars Galaxies was an incredible learning experience.  I would say of all the communities I have had the pleasure to interact with, SWG has been simultaneously the most challenging and the most rewarding.  The nuances of expression, the exhilaration of watching players come together, and the passion in which players advocated their own experiences is truly unique in the industry.

The passion, goodness.  I don’t think there are any other MMO’s out there right now with the vehemence and passion that SWG players display.  I’m going to dearly miss the board fights, the pleas for balance and flame wars, the well intentioned expose’ or three on purple Mandalorian armor and Mon Calamari mammaries.  I’m going to miss the Senate, heartache and pain in the butt it is, and I really still do think there is a strong place in community for player representation and feedback-style government.

But, time to move on.  I’m going to be spending some time with my family for a bit, and taking a bit of a sabbatical for awhile.  In all likelihood though, I’ll be jumping right back into the Community Management field in short order.  Ahh, but who can say where?  I’m sure it’ll be exciting as hell.

I do hope the SWG players continue to be the embodiment of passion they have been, and I’m confident that Valara, Virrago and EM and everyone at SOE will all continue to do right by the community.  I cherish my time spent at Sony, and one couldn’t have asked for a better team that is currently at the helm of the game.

My guess is, he took to heart "some" of what the community was saying.   I know that he pmed me that he had placed some "feedback" to devs over the C6 Combat Downgrade.  And he would have had access to exactly how bad it got in population after C6CD.

I'll bet he "feedbacked" once too often.  I'd imagine that DM and Blix didn't like being told that they were wrong from him, any more than they liked it from the community.  DM even made a post directed at Fisher saying he wasn't going to listen to him any longer and he would "drown him out like white noise".

SOE must have a handbook entitled, THE CUNGE method of development.

This scenario would not surprise me one bit.

The SWG Dev team always has had something of a thinly veiled contempt for the players, assumed they were a bunch of kids when many of them could well have been their bosses, and were pointing out, politely  more often than not, that they were on a path that would result in player meltdowns.

Then the prophecy came true, and the dev team basically put their hands over their ears and started screaming lalalalala to avoid dealing with the reality they created.

Greypawn may very well have been telling them guys, you're doing it again, and the messenger was shot for failure to hold the players in contempt, instead listening to them.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I suspect GP was fired so as to be "the fall guy" for the fact that their NGE holocaust denying PR campaign, consisting of lies about happy former disgruntled players returning in droves, capped off by Smed's latest non apology failed miserably.  Deadmeat, the lead producer, recently flamed Fishermage on the forums and then later had to apologize for it publicly.  My guess is both Deadmeat and GP were called into Smed's office, GP fired, and DM ordered to apologize.  DM is more valueble to SOE since he's actually a Dev, and the company is Dev poor, so they wouldn't fire him.  But GP was an inexperienced PR flack.  Sony has lots of those.

PR and dribbles added to the NGE game semi-annually will continue to do nothing positive.

I'd say the odds of them finding anyone qualified to become SWG community manager are approximately 3,720 to 1.  Times a billion.

Who would want the job?  They are running out of kool-aid guzzlers, and the job basically consists of flinging yourself in front of a trainwreck.

I nominate Obraik.  He's the most prominent kool-aid drinker out there, and at least he played (so he claims) in the pre NGE.  That's more qualifications than GP had.

When they say "Spending more time with my family" it means fired.
