Seeing as LOTRO and Wows comabt are not similar... what the heck are you saying.

    You use swords and magic?

No worries , it was sarcastic . IE the comment division between Wow and lotro combat is swords and magic...

Apply this to WAR also becuase after all thats what he is callign a similar type of combat system (as he groups wow and lotro as the same combat system, which it is drastically different).

So i guess what is your post saying?

And don't even try the AoC card - they bit off alot more than they could chew with their combat system.

It may not be broke but its the same crap that every other MMO is running around using.... "hit the hot key and watch the lame ass animation..." You would think after years and years of MMO's being released they would come up with something more than the tired and used hotkey system...

In that sense, Devs are limited by the hardware their consumers have. There are only so many unique ways of controlling your character in an MMO, and RPGs and FPSs seem to have covered the two most popular methods. Aside from that, I find it hard to believe that keyboards would even make the top 20 of most urgent problems with MMOs from a consumer's point of view. Its not a big enough issue to warrant the manpower dedication, let alone the possibility of developing new hardware that an already frugal consumer has to justify buying.

So what your saying is screw innovative changes due to the lack of manpower? Lets all conform to every other MMO out there because its just a easier thing to do?

I hate bringing other games up but the combat system like AoC made is a great example of a fresh and new idea. I just wish companies could think outside the box when it comes to combat systems. I just dont see why it always has to be the same automated system that every other MMO uses. It is stupid to argue about a game that hasnt come out yet but it just frustrates me because I was a WAR tabletop fan and to see it come online and see a generic combat system saddens me thats all....

No, what I'm saying is lets not waste manpower on an issue that a majority of gamers don't even find a problem with. The Wii fielded an innovative new control system that had very-nearly never been done before, but controls weren't something that most console gamers had a problem with. And now, several months later, the control system hasn't revolutionized anything. If you're banking on the controls being balls-to-the-wall awesome then I think in the long run you might be disappointed. Sure, it will be a novel idea at first, and may even be the staying-power that a handful of AoC players need. But I would bet my life that its not going to be the NEXT BIG THING(!).

I don't see anything overly special about what AoC is doing, either. From what I gathered in the admittedly scarce research I did on the combat system, it seems to be to be the love child of God of War's button sequence finishers and Street Fighter's button combo (↓?→P = Hadouken).
New isn't always better, and while the control scheme probably won't be the downfall of AoC, I'm betting it won't be the new "It" thing either.

Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things

mmmm yeeeah, thats greeat, a little to the left would be greeeat, ::sips coffee mug:::

I see where you are coming from... I guess for me I just wish there was a PVP MMO out there that required more personal skill i.e. keyboard control with a good balance of character skill + gear. Thats just my cup of tea and I can bitch all day long about not seeing such a game but nothing will happen. Just the usual MMO with the usual combat system....

I've seen one or two vids of WAR and, whilst I can see it looks slightly like WoW style combat, what I saw still looked a lot more fun (far more manic).

I don't think it's the combat in WoW that I dislike, it's the relatively meaningless gameplay. Hopefully, as WAR revolves largely around PvP, it'll hopefully avoid that problem.
