You have to admit that this game has a lot of followers. You would think that someone would see that there is a market for a open PVP skill based game. Reading about all the other games that are coming down the pipe line depresses me..more of the same...more level grinding..limited pvp.. I still haven't played a game that got me as emotionally involved as UO did. Man I hope this game launches one day.

I second that. I never played UO but I do wanna play this!!!!!
after some research i have to say the game look very promising i just really wish they would release more up to date info because all the stuff that i have found about the game as been through Q&A or some stuff dated back in 2005 or later heck i would be satisfied with just a start of beta date ...but if anyone knows of any sites that has any up to date videos or interviews please share

I believe this is what you were looking for Murin.
By showing support to DF, never mind V-W or not, show the MMO devs that there is a market in skillbased sandbox games.

YEA!! I always get the feeling that the success of EverQuest ruined MMORPG for me. It seems that at the beginning there were two major players..EverQuest and Ultima Online. I think, but I might be wrong, EverQuest was the more successful. I never played it myself. Now we have the whole MMORPG dev community basically building updated versions of EQ. So if you hated the grinding, PVE level based games you got screwed, but I guess that is the way the free market works.
internetgames.about.com/od/gamingnews/a/timeline_3.htm
But it was EQ that grabbed the lion's share of the market, so despite the fact that other games like SWG, EVE, and some others tried to be a bit different, when WOW released in 2004 it firmly established the EQ style of gameplay as the dominant gameplay style in the market today.
We can only hope that the market once again evolves away from this style once people begin to tire of it, but until then our choices will be a bit limited.

Their is a market for an open and expansive game skill based that has people accountable for their actions. The problem is the stigma associated with PvP. once this word is removed then the game will suceed and people can kill with gay abandon and then fear for their lives. That is what the modewl within darkfall will promote. So it won't be the open PvP you are expecting, you will be able to kill but you will suffer. Most individual skills will have an associated grind to them, within a MMO mechanic there will always be grind as a time sink if you think otherwise you are again misguided.
without the grindd element you just need an arena and zero content because the masses won't play in numbers if their is no reward for time invested. Time=more skills but with the system in DF you should be able to compete as a specialist but with less options when competing.
Once people stop using the terms PvP and PvE and look at the bigger picture the genre may be back on track. No successful MMO game will ever cater to the griefer and be successful again...

"You have to admit that this game has a lot of followers."
no actually it doesn't have many followers at all.
The forums rarely have over 100 people browsing them. Dark and Light had over 1,000 people browsing when it was in development and over 300,000 people registered.
Yeah I totally agree. But I've lost hope with DF at this point. You're right on the fact that it should draw some attention to the fact that there is a large crowd out there searching for something new, like old UO. AoC is a ways off, but it seems to be the closest to the hard-coreness that I've been searching for.
its still level/class based
I don't see anyone, including myself, that is against the "virtue" of new game play or concept brought by Darkfall. Most people who are pragmatic have already moved on to better things and not waiting on it anymore. The other Zealot who keep calling people "troll" when they bring facts that this game is a complete vaporware are lost cause. They are probably the kind of people to only see and hear a train when it reach 2 feets from their face. It's usually too late to save yourself too. (or your credibility in this case)
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
vaperware LOL ok i give up you wills ee soon enougha nd im going on here and laughing t you if it is then i just laugh at mys elf and move on more harm done to you than me
After reading some of your posts I think you sound like some desperate Darkfall Dev trying to push his product on everyone. Most people are already laughing at people like yourself. This game claimed beta a number of times starting back in 2003. I think everyone gets a good laugh anytime anyone says that DARKFALL BETA SOON!
that's your theory but you have zero backup. I play 100% PVP games all the time why do they need PVE'ers for Battlefield, UT3, Starcraft 2? You realize us Clan pvpers pay way over $15 a month to run a serveR?
PVE'ers aren't needed. Never was. Never needed them in Starcraft, never needed them in Quake WArs. Never needed in any other genre so why do we need them in a MAssive Multiplayer Game?
maybe you're the one that's holding back the industry. this game could've probably been out a long time ago if they stop trying to add all these 'Quests'
what's funny WAR is #1 hype and many are pvpers that highly anticipate not being forced into PVE ever
stop with the stereotypes we have plenty of PVE MMOs yet for some reason 100% PVP MMO cant work? Gimmie a break.
You dont wanna be killed or caught unawares? Then you're following the wrong game you will die- and you will die a LOT
"Vajuras how do you plan to skillup?"
Dueling and PVP- the way Ultima Online was. sure, sometimes I will go kill a mob. sometimes I might do a quest for lore. Sometimes I will craft. Hell, I might just be a crafter.
I dont need glowing PCs and 5,000 Quests. been there, done that more then I can count
Your right its not that big right now but if beta was opened tomorrow I bet it would make an exponential increase.

You are so wrong, but you have your opinion the info is in the site unless you have other reference material?
faction and zoned ownership by players will make the game different to Ultima just not as severe. I understand the industry and the development of MMOs what you infer to want won't work especially in this game as they have a solid design and won't copmpromise it. This game will sit in the EvE category if it releases.

I think there is a difference between mmo's and other pvp games though, its called money, a shit load of it. Other games don't require the same constant upkeep and development the running costs are stupidly higher. It's the belief of a lot of the current publishers that the pure pvp market simply isn't enough to sustain an mmo.
Its also the game play, mmo's are huge time sinks no matter how you dress it, they need to be because they cant afford for you to think its the best pvp game ever made, only for you to pick it up and play every now and then but decide that the monthly fee isn't worth a session here and there. This is how the pulishers feel this market plays.
I'm not aruing with you I'm simply stating the way it is, its the main reason this game is having such a hard time finding a publisher deal they're happy with.

PvE'ers burn through content. PVPers create content for each other. WE'll fight each other in an Arena for months and months
The upkeep and development for all PVP games are dramatically cheaper then PVE games.
edit- Darkfall would have problem getting a publisher for going Skill Based instead of Class/Levels. Also for the player run content in a seamless world is a bit too scary for most to touch. Like Pirates fo the burning Sea they will most likely need to self fund then get apublisher once its complete
I just cannol wait for Darkfall, no matter what people say.
Till then I have Fury, and am very happy with it.
okay I never did explain why I'm sure Darkfall Online could really take the market by storm. I'll try to keep it brief
Most mmo are horrible and suck for PVP period. Levels- they suck for PVP. Classes- in FPS they are done right. I can switch roles at respawn to create a highly optimized team.
In MMORPGs like WoW and such I'm confined to One Freakin Class. I cant fully optimize for PVP when I'm confined to a shallow Class. add- anyone else remembers having to decide between PVE (level faster, raids) or PVP (so you dont get owned on the PVP server)?
This is why MMORPGs usually suck for PVP and you see us pvpers scurry right back to FPS/RTS. In RTS recall I can switch my faction at will. In MMO- I'm stuck in some Faction and unable to optimize for PVP
edit- note you can optimize partially in MMO but after the inevitable nerf comes then you have reroll. Thus one of the few MMOs I've liked where either skill based or something like Guild Wars
DarkFall changes all that. Also, we will have realtime combat here. It blends RTS/FPS
They dont need 'quests'. They would storm the PVP genres (RTS/FPS). Realize that market is HUGE. I know im in that market- always shipped PVP games (offline PVE, online PVP). shipped only 1 multiplayer RPG that was PVE based out of the many other PVP focused titles I've done.
But I say a big "IF" they must be solid. They must get a good metacritic score. WoW hit 93 meta. DF needs to hit in the 90s metacritic. So that means 6+ year dev cycle because due to player run content its a lot to pull off
edit- anyway you dont have to be a developer to know these things. some will agree, others wont. diversity is beauty. See ya on DF forums
