Hell, even gold farmers aren't as annoying as hackers and thats saying a lot.

I've been playing MMOs since 2000, and I've never seen a company that charges a monthly fee brush off their customers like this. I just got off my 14 free day trial, wasted the 20 dollars to buy it, and the monthly fee I'm assuming as well.

The servers have been down now at least 5 hours, with no word from CCP. If this is true, that someone hacked into their code it would have to be a MMO first. I've never witnessed a serverside hack from a company that charges a monthly fee. Horrible security, horrible customer care. It shows just how much they value me. Again, even if that is true, but CCP isn't even talking to us. There are plenty of forums for someone to let us know, so they are, in effect, giving life to these rumors.

I thought SOE had bad customer service. This takes the cake hands down. I really don't care if there is a roll-back or not. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. CCP won't be fooling me again with their craptastic SOE like customer care. SOE like? Heck, SOE makes these clowns look like chumps.

Again, I don't care that servers are down. It's the life of an MMO player, but to not even inform your customers? Holy crap, man, show us that you care a little about our business. If this is a serverside hack, lol, just lol, dude. You just made history CCP.

I have to say from all the stuff I see come across about EVE the control over this game seems crappy.

Guys so far all of these 'server hacked' threads have turned out to be fakes.  May as well wait to see what CCP says about it.  Because every 5 minutes another fake 'server was hacked' rumor is coming out.

What's with all these people spazzing out? It's not the end of the world and nothing has been confirmed, so why assume the worst?

I haven't played EvE since the first few months of it being live.  I don't really have any specific opinion of the game or the company.

I just wanted to say if they do a roll back... I feel for any of you who do play.

Only saw something similar to this once.  Where there was a loot table error in EQ1 on the server I played (I played test actually but hey..).

I'll spare you the details of that .. but hopefully this either isn't true or those of you who do play.. don't lose much.

Everything going around right now is just rumor.

I remember when I played WoW, for a while (about their first year) every time they released a new patch the servers would be up and down (mostly down) for at least a day - unexpected downtime is nothing new in the history of MMOs.

If they're still down tomorrow I might get pissy.. till then I think I might go watch a movie later.  Nightmare Before Christmas (in plastic eyeglass-tastic 3D) starts today...

Ok, even the company's official site is down http://www.ccpgames.com and that means that they ahd to take everything offline and thats why they arent responding... for all we know it was just a power failure and they were running on battery backup during shutdown, or the server overheated, or there was a fire, only god knows, and only idiots start rumors.....

If you can't be bothered to join the official IRC forum where they are posting updates as they have them then please, take your whine elsewhere.  They are informing customers.  Just because you couldn't be bothered to log into IRC to find out what's going on doesn't mean they don't care about you.

The official site is down because it's tied to the database server.  The database server crashed.  Thus the site cannot, ipso facto, be online, now can it?

I've played EVE for nearly 2 years and never has anything like this happened before. Whenever there was downtime CCP was always good about letting customers know why. I'm not sure why they are being silent about it now. Even if their web site is tied to the database server,  it doesn't take 5 hours to configure a temporary web site on a new server to post updates until this issue is resolved.

Can some one please tell me how i might get on to this official IRC forum? I have asked previously, but no reply.

    thanks

websites back up, no update yet.

    Forums still down

Yeah, it could suck if there were a roll back, but let's not stress over it yet. Let it all play out first.

Something similar (with the downtime for hours and no official answer and no reason and so on) happened in 2006 some time, and it turned out fine. The rumours were fun then too. It's very annoying when the game goes down for no reason for hours and people claiming to know everything, and people who do know a lot about stuff but who jump to the wrong conclusions just because they smell smoke, always want to tell everyone else about their worries. Especially those who care about whomever it is they're accusing. Kinda like mothers in law.

TQ Will be back very soon! The rumors of rollbacks are not true. We have lost no data, everything will be explained soon.

Meanwhile I'm still trying in vain to install 64-bit Vista.. looks like I might be doing a rollback of my own pretty soon..

I feel your pain.  I worked for about a month getting Vista running on my PC and after a lot of uninstalls and reinstalls and fancy tap dancing I finally got it working like a champ.  Now im having a bit of trouble getting the auto-updater to actually update the stuff.... sigh.  Anyways, GL with Vista

Tap dancing ranks right up there with sledge hammer in the "Top 10 Ways to fix ANY computer related issue."

I know it's off topic here, but if it was already mentioned: I wouldn't install Vista unless I absolutely had no choice (like my boss said me to do so NOW). Crappy, buggy, resource greedy piece of software; and I'm not sure it will even persist. Win Me anyone?

It's interesting they would say rumors of a roll back are not true. Does this mean other rumors are true?
