Perpetual Entertainment bad as $OE?

I can see it all to clear now, just like $OE this company cares more about the $ than the games it develops. How can they throw away a game like Gods n Heoes? This game was way to close to release to have suffered this fate. If this company cannot handle both games then they definatly are not able to handle a game of the magnitude STO should be. I have read enough about the tentative plans they have for STO,it looks like it will not even resemble the Star Trek I know and grew up with. Paramount should revoke the license and consider a different developer to create this game. STO has been announced for years now and all this company has to show for it is concept art and a few idea's. Maybe Paramount should award the Star Trek license to a more worthy developer like CCP who already has some experience with a space MMO. Hello? Paramount ? CCP Has a North American Studio now.

I agree with everything except giving STO to CCP. I don't feel like seeing Galaxy class starships being handed out to anyone the devs like. CCP needs to work on their rep after all the negativity lately.

We don't need the ST MMO to be STEVE.  We need something that will do justice to a great and long-lasting IP.  EVE is great, and I, for one, like the job CCP has been doing with it.  But ST needs to be something different.

This whole deal with PE over the last year or so just brings back too many flashes of Horizons' corporate problems from the start.  I don't have much hope that PE will deliver it, and I think we'll see it sold in the not-too-distant future.  To who?  Hmmm...that would be a tough question to answer.  The companies I feel could do justice to an ST MMO wouldn't be interested.  And the one that might be interested...oh no, not SOE.  Please.

This whole mess just makes me sad.  Poor Star Trek.  Poor Star Wars.  Poor Sci-Fi gaming.

Perpetual is just a developer that didnt know its limits.

They were developing their own thing and then got a hold of a major IP. Given a smooth launch and halfway decent gameplay STO would mop the floor with GnH in terms of sales. You say they only care about money and thats a good thing. If they kept pushing through GnH and not care about costs they would have gone bankrupt and both games would have suffered greatly and they would have released GnH in a half finished state.

GnH had about 6 months or MORE to go before it was ready for launch. If they were able to launch this year then they would have been able to capatalize on the delays from high profiles games like AoC and WAR but launching near or soon after AoC, WAR and WotLK would result in death. So, instead of sending it out to die and wasting more of thier money and yours they killed it early. Wise move on their part.

I still predict that $OE will anounce it bought the unfished title "Gods and Heroes" and finish it, it will be added to their repertoire by March 2K8, then it will be a paid Beta just like Vanguard was.

$OE wants to pull in the masses with their full subscription that gives unlimited access to all their unfinished MMO's for only $25 a month.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Change the last word of your first sentence, "was", to "is", and I agree.

It would not surprise me even a little bit if this came to pass.

That's exactly why they cancelled Gods and Heroes, so that STO would turn out good.

Also, I was unaware that SOE changed its name to $ony Online Entertainment ($OE).

The notion that graphics, or anything else for that matter, are anywhere near as important as gameplay/fun is so utterly ridiculous that anyone who shares such a view should be placed in an asylum.

They did. But just like the movie "Invasion LA" with Rowdy Pipper, you must put the "special sun glasses" to see it ;-)

What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...

Whats bad about it? perpetual have canceled a game they were making because they thought it was shit and knew they wouldn't be capable of making a good game on top of making a huge ip like star trek, instead of doing what soe would do which is say "omg this game is shit i know we will sell it and make monez lol" -_-

These guys are making a perfectly good business decision which in the long run is better for the gaming community at the end of the day we don't need another half assed mmo to be released.

Oh and news flash every company cares about money first the game afterwards, how are they going to make a good game if they don't have money?

I wouldn't say PE is as bad as $OE. Now, if they waited a year after launch and did this then I'd say they were just as bad. I personally played the beta and wasn't impressed at all. My first five minutes of the game consisted of getting stuck, using a /stuck command and then being perma stuck after respawn.

Considering the quality of some of the mmo's being released, including some greatly made F2P mmo's, I can understand the decision. Plus, as I'm anticpating a great STO game, I'm glad they fluffed the dev team. My only hope is that they only transferred thier vet leads to STO. I'd hate to see STO reach beta in the same state as G&H.

Yep- that's the scam- er "business model."  Charge a premium price for lots of inferior products in one package to justify it.  Patronizing this kind of establishment is only detrimental to gamers.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

That's BS. I'm quite convinced it was more SOE's idea than PE's to "clarify" the publishing agreement on the game. SOE saw which way the game was heading so wanted as little as possible to do with it.

And Sigil was the one that decided Vanguard was ready for release, not SOE. Yes Sigil was out of money but SOE was NOT putting a gun to their heads and said release now. Give credit where credit is due, but do the same with criticism.

How many "unfinished" MMO's do SOE have besides Vanguard? I count 0. Everquest = finishedm Everquest 2 = finished, Matrix Online may not be a superb game but it IS finished. Planetside is finished, Star Wars Galaxies is finished, (just because you may think a game is bad does NOT mean it is not finished). So stop throwing half lies around. If you don't like SOE fine, but just say so, don't claim they do something they don't.

Such Hostility nobody said this is what $OE was doing ,they were making a statement that it would not surprise them. This is my Opinion I do not see PE having the experience necessary for a game of this magnitude and from what I have read they will destror this game like SWG did to Star Wars. If they are going to make a game in the Next Generation Timeline they need to stay TRUE to the series and quit adding crap that was not there. I sure wish Gene Roddenberry were still here to advise in the games develpment or Rick Berman( Who after Star Trek Enterprise series lost some of my devotion) Had more input. All n All I would rather see an experienced co. Make this game.
