Hm, this is the EQ2 forum, so what do you think? Why are there so many 'EQ2 vs WoW' threads? There will be way more games out this year than these two. Besides, can't people talk about anything besides WoW rools or EQ2 PWNS WOW or blah blah blah. Neither game is out, speculate all you want, but no one knows which will be better until WE CAN ACTUALLY PLAY THEM!
By the way, I say EQ2 over WoW.

EQ2 all the way, oh, and heres a good way to compare the two
EQ2 = The Lord of the Rings
WoW = The Pagemaster
First of all, we already had this discussion a little while ago and it was pretty much a tie, and second of all, if your going to compare WoW and EQ2 dont put it in the EQ2 section because thats where all of the people that love EQ2 go, put it in the general section so everyone will see it Oh, and I would vote for EQ 2 being much better. I played one of my friends beta accounts for WoW and I didnt like it very much, too cartooney.

Mostly anything can fall under the general discussion topic, hense it being general discussion, and this is one of the most general topics.
Anyway... this is a battle between fans, and there really is no way to deem which is better, because it is obviously opinionated. Despite that fact though, if you know what you are looking for, there isa way to see which game is going to be a better fit for you.
While both games seem to have a great deal of quests in them, blizzard really has no experience in proper quests, while sony has some. I think with that set aside the major differences between the games are the fighting styles. From what I have seen WoW is much faster paced and along the lines of a sort of Diablo2 type where spells are cast on the fly and it's a major hack and slash. EQ2 will be more tactical in the sense that there are different approches that will get you through different areas better than other methods. Also, classes are more defined between the archtypes and it seems to really give a sense of dependability on the other archtypes in order to properly survive in a good group based area. That leads to the group based aspect. Sony has done a lot of work to keep classes balanced but also in need of one another for proper support. While making tanks do most of the melee and damage taking, mages blast from the back lines and heal power (mana), clerics buff and heal life, and scouts do minor melee but also add to the whole aspect of the groups abilities, including opportunistic damage, group hidding, group speed buffs and group evac's.
I personally think that there has been a lot more work done on EQ2 to make each archtype individual, and the fact that they branch into different classes that can fill the role but do it in a different light is great. Even more so you then increase to a sub-class to further specialize in some skills. I love the progression allowed. The sheer amount of choices in classes, subclasses and races is much higher in EQ2. Also the graphics are definately better.
One of the things that really bothered me in WoW is the stats on weapons. They seem to vary far too much, giving me the idea that skill and weapon stats aren't properly weighed as in EQ2. If some high level has some sick weapons, they build off his skills. He'll still be able to function just fine with weaker weapons, but what it seems in WoW is that items make your character. It's complicated to explain but, I'm going with EQ2. I think it's better in ever single way...
