Life after WoW, should I wait for WAR?

Zavy8865Zavy8865 Member Posts: 3
After over 2 and a half years on and off from WoW, I finally hung up the Nikes (Gnomish Rockets Boots, you may say). I got into WoW from some friends, and it was my real first MMO. I did play Rune Scape for a while before because, again, friends. Since I am done with the constant grinding, raiding, and mindless gameplay in general with WoW, I, like many others, have been waiting for either the next, or wanting to simply find, a new MMO. I did a little bit of it all in WoW, from healing raids and group PvP, being a damage ckass for the same, and being a support class. I never found really what class I liked to play, but I know I enjoyed PvP. I enjoyed WoW's PvP, not nescessarily the system ( i was one of those casters who grinding FM waaay back in the day) and after doing so, it seemed that Blizzard kept simplifying the PvP system so everyone soon became geared. Well, enough me ranting about what I did in WoW and why I'm done playing, my real concern is finding a new game to play. I really enjoy PvP like I said. I have seen many games thrown around that PvP junkies have discussed, such as Lineage, EVE, and Guild Wars. Are any of these games worth getting into this late? Some of these games have been out for a while, some years, and I was wondering how the gameplay compares to WoW. Or should I just wait for something like WAR or AoC, or Aion?

(I know this is going to be solved with a lot of switch to PC, but I am currently running on a MacBook, so please take this into consideration.)

    Hey Zavy!

On WAR, AOC, and Aion: it's hard to recommend a game that hasn't come out yet, especially this far out from launch - they all have some cool concepts but we never know how the cards will fall.  On the games you listed that are out, though, I happen to have played all of them! :)

Lineage II is a rough game, especially for someone with little MMO experience; it's the school of hard knocks, you could say!  Leveling's a grind, there aren't many quests, and the players can be less than friendly - the PVP is fun but very gear based, and I can see it as tough to get into this late in the game.

EVE is again a rough game to get into, but there are some factors working on your side as a newbie.  In group PvP, for instance, the goal is to blow up your enemy's most expensive ships...so you can fly in there in a frigate and help tackle, and still be useful, while not getting insta-popped (hopefully)!  There's a lot of strategy and fun, but the PvE content can be a little grindy.

Guild Wars is very easy to get into, and you could max your level out in one or two days on a brand new character.  I haven't played GW in a long time, and I'm not sure how unfriendly the PvP is to newbies these days - the good news is, it's a lot more skill based than most games.  You won't be one of the top 10 in your first week, but you probably won't get pwned, either.

    Hope this helped!

    Hi Zavy.

I recommend you try the EVE Online trial. I didn't like it much becuase im more of a sword/magic freak.

But other than that theres Fury, I currently enjoy it A LOT.

Its 100% PvP though, no PvE at all.

    Good luck!

When I left WoW I had the same question. I actually found that returning to a game I played before WoW was a very cool experience. After an abscence of so long, it was like playing an entirely new game once again. So, perhaps think about the games you enjoyed before WoW and see what they are like now. You may be happily surprised.

I also agree with the above posters recomendation, take a spin on a few free trials.

    Good Luck

I have to say it, the only real contenders for the next best MMO are age of conan, warhammer and aion. ANything else will be a waste of time.

Hi Zavy, I'm in your same situation. I used to play WoW since USA Beta stage and now i'm a little bored about him after played a priest, a hunter, a war and a mage (all 70)

I really like PvP, that's the only way I play mmorpg, but actually I think there are no product that can assure you a good PvP sistem except for WoW, maybe best thing to do is continue on WoW till WAR or AoC will be available for us and then make your choice.

Imho best PvP of ever is on DAOC but actually there are few people playing it so it wouldn't be be a great choice to start playin'

EVE online and his PvP sistem is too boring for me (i play it for 1 month and too often i fell asleep after 10 minute from logging), DAOC, Guild Wars and  LIneage are too out of date for start now a new char, LotRO has a strange PvP sistem (maybe you can try it with the free trial) .... so the choice is too much limited (I didn't mentioned oriental stile game coz I don't like them except for GW).
