What attracts you the most to AoC?

Personally I think the entire game is what attracts me to it. Sticking to the Lore of Conan, keeping him the intelligent Strong-willed Conan from the books as opposed to the funny yet incorrect Drunken Bafoon Conan from the movies ((which i still enjoy, punching a camel while drunk then seeing it later and it is retarded from your fist)) Keeping to the 3 kingdoms and their styles (classes/beliefs etc.) This is a well rounded game in my opinion, but if I had to choose one of the poll options, considering I have a beer in my hand, I'm gonna have to say the Conan-style Humor is what gives me the tinglies right now!!

Cheers!!

They need to remove the mature content, seriously though... its gonna attract kiddies and make the game boring.

What attracts me are the graphics and the combat system.

Did they say they'd add a FFA PvP server? If so cool.. if not, bah no pvp F it then :)

It's to go along with the inflatable dolls hidden in the closets of each and every guy who would buy a video game just because it has nudity and virtual prostitutes in it.

    You know, the mature people.

Heh, ok I'm an ass.  I just couldn't resist.

I like it for the combat system. It's not going to be a 360 from what we have traditionally, but it'll require more concentration.

I voted player run kingdoms, because in AoC, everything here is made by you and not found laying around. A sense of owner ship is stressed more here.

Due to the accuracy of the conan lore in this mmorpg, if i pretend to be arnold schwarzenegger as conan and go around getting drunk, rocking bar fights, and punching camels screaming "aaeaayaa" will i get in trouble?

You might get a bit broke spending all that gold on Ale =)

i heard pre-order gives a beer cloak or drunken cloak whatever it's called? free alcohol so im told, either that or it costs alcohol to start bar fights and thats free, muhahahah heh.. well ..

but yes, i'd have to say all of the features of conan are seeming very attractive to me right now

Combat Sytem and Graphics attracts me most to AoC.  Although,  Those two alone will not hold my attention for long if they don't have other things to offer.

Heads rolling and blood spatter, different combat than the norm. Other than that, I'm not really interested in the rest. I don't have the massive amounts of man hours available to do the guild keep war thing. (Though it was fun in shadowbane and daoc, respectively.)

do you find it hard to hide the fact that your gay?

Before you start tossing insults around, learn grammar.

Your is possesive. You're is a contraction of You and Are.

So the response you're looking for is: 'Do you find it hard to hide the fact that YOU'RE gay?' (And, WTF is with the gay slurs running rampant on the internet?)

    Frakking idiot.

And Neanderthal is spot on. Alas, another game for the 5 and 6 year-olds to ruin. Hopefully Spellborn will keep a truely mature audience, without resorting to breasts and the like to attract an audience.

Granted, the AoC community on MMORPG.com is very mature (Avery and the like, you guys rock :D), but I'm just worried about the idiot that will pick the game up in their local Target/Walmart/Ect, and be like 'Dude! Tits and Ass! So my game!' So I guess I'm worried about the frat-boy mentality.

    /sigh

This game seems to does have so much potential, I'll probably buy it for the 30 day trial, and see how the community is around launch time. The gameplay is pretty awesome.

Definitely do not play it just to see how the communitee is at launch. You are probably right that there will be people who pick up the game just because it has boobies in it, but from what i have seen they are not that spectacular. Do you really think that the boobies are going to keep them playing the game on that alone. Some will buy the game because of the nudity and gore but they will soon realize that if they want nudity there is much better on the internet and the gore will be nothing special compared to console games. Depth and gameplay will keep people playing, not the gimmicks (which i like for the most part). If you are going to truely give it a try dont do it right at launch and only give it a month, give it a couple months or wait a couple months before you try, the gimmicks will have worn out by then.

Oh, and i pick none of the above. I am interested in AOC because of the realistic graphics and well i guess the combat system also.

In all probability, the learning-curve for AoC will be a bit steeper than that of more Rat-infested games such as World of Warcraft. If even only a slight percentage of the design mentality that created Anarchy-Online is present, this game will not have an horrendous ammount of Rats running around spouting nonsense and projecting their sexual insecurities by shouting GAY at anyone and anything..

Wolves need something to feast on. Let the "kiddies" try and survive.

I had been one of those doomsayers from moment this game was announced.  A lot this stemmed from the MMO community being burned too many times by proposed game features that were either never seen or applied after release.  And then there was the big stink that was/is being raised by the community about the "M" rating.  To be honest, my only exposure to Conan was the movies as a kid, and they never really appealed to me.  Therefore, I stayed away from the books because I expected the same thing.

Now, after looking at the site and seeing the books at the local bookstore, I may just pick them up and give them a read.  Yup, I'm a flip-flopper.  I'm now totally gung-ho about this game, because there is not one feature that I disagree with or am even iffy about.  Also, after some hunting, I feel confident that these features will be in the game upon release due to the dev's not only listing the features but also the "how" of the features.

Oh yeah, and if I had to place my finger on just one thing that has attracted me the most to AoC, then it would be the fact that they've put the "play" back into "gameplay."  I doubt I will find myself mindless pushing buttons for hours upon end, but instead truly considering each button pushed and each movement of the mouse.

    Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing.
    Looking Forward To:

I like the idea of building our own kingdom/city.  Its a great community tool, and I appreciate a game that doesn't treat us as children that needs to be sheltered from all the gore and sex.

I have other avenues for seeing real gore/sex....  the news is enough

Mature content, im pushing 30 and dont want to play a "saturday morning  kids cartoon show" MMO.

New combat system, that not makes you bored when playing,

    Conan lore.

Grapfhics, i think AoC is the most beautiful MMO ever (so far).

Well, except for the bit about usurping the King's name and pretending a certain muscle bound Aussie is anything like him... the rest is fine :p

  • I'm attracted to the more realistic graphics, the promise of barriers to entry for kids & teens, and something intangible. The setting interests me although I'm not an expert. I'm just looking forward to trying it out.

Vanguard had similarly attracted me until I played it and found that it felt too much like a job. The reality is that it didn't make me feel like I was enjoying myself. So I remain skeptical until I try it but I'm definitely going to buy it and check it out.
