I adored the toolset even more than the game itself. Getting in there and making something of my own was great, great fun.

The toolset was incredible in that it was easy to get into and make things, but had the depth to let the really great builders and scripters make amazing things. Some of the high rated single player modules on the fan sites blew me away. And the communities 'persistant' nwn worlds were fun as well. Between good scripting and the dm client I had quite a bit of fun. In one persistant world I created a keep where I was able to have ghosts re-enact the fall of that keep on a nightly basis and passerby spectators would see a lot of flashy spells and sword swinging, but were unharmed.

Some of my favorite modules were made by Adam Miller (dreamcatcher/shadowlords/demon) and Rick Burton (Twilight/Midnight).

I got both NWN, and NWN 2. I like both and I am amazed that there is an expansion set for NWN 2! What i don't like about it, is that I have a problem with both editors, I don't know how to model or script, or make a good map that everyone will like. There should be at least a nice torturial program that helps newbies and beginners to get the hang of the editor. Mostly voice-over toturials, placed instructions, and so forth... it helps guide us that way then a bunch of text that everyone don't like to read that much.

I like both, but the online I kinda dislike as it can get boring and the combat is too damn slow. I like the way that it involves with the D & D combat system, but i still not fast pace and takes too much time and losses, it's it mostly mastery then DPS?

    A great article.

Unfortunately it seems only to be aimed at showing how the ideas in NWN can be used to make a future MMO without realising that NWN can be played as an MMO in its own right.

It is true though that the gameplay is awesome and should probably be looked at by companies thinking to make a new MMO.

Myself I am going to play and build on NWN "persistent world" servers until that happends....

...and yes...NWN2 isn't what it is supposed to be regarding being used as a multiplayer platform.

    The article is great.

Anyway, if we're talking about the original Neverwinter Nights - wasn't that the first graphical MMORPG from 1991 made by SSI?

I agree completely. NWN is like Oblivion in that matter. It might be a good game if you first spend hours and hours searching all the modding websites and find the best modes. The original single player campaings were pretty average.

I would love the original makers of NWN1 (believe NWN2 was made by diff people) to join and make an MMORPG.

If they did, i reckon it could challenge even WoW, as there is still a v large fanbase that still play the game.

NWN1 was fantastic. Not for the premade campaign (which I found dull), but for player-designed servers some of which were outstanding in their creativity and amount of content.

I spent many hours designing my own modules, as well. There were some annoying limitations, but great fun in general.

An MMO version which featured player-made content would be amazing.
