Agreed , i think the pure fact it does not offer beta access should ring alarm bells for anybody , no beta = they are worried people would cancel the pre order

i might be buying this , but there is no way i will pre order without trying the game first , ive been burned to many times by companys promising the world then giving nothing.

i have nothing against FLS personaly and i hope they do very well , just stating my opinion about this , oh and btw i would have probably pre ordered this asap if it had beta access.. just a thought.

You are getting in 15 days before the launch. After that you can cancel the preorder if you don't like the game. You will lose 5 bucks.

They've mentioned before that they would "probably" have an open beta of some sort before the game goes live. I think it's pretty much de rigeur in the MMO business that there's a "try before you buy" period.

Sigh.... so everyone that orders the preorder... gets a 15 day headstart... gg... POTBS... gg... are you coming out with a new server the day the official release date comes out so I too can have a fresh start? I'll wait til they make a server where everyone gets to start at the same time?

Is this the second or third launch date? Let´s hope they get the game out this time, wanna jump in and set sail.....

I wouldn't preorder this game especially without an open beta.

People are still trying to get their preorder money back from Gods andd Heroes, and SOE had the same relationship with that title that they do with this one.

    1)  you will get to play the game for 15 days free you can cancel it before the game goes live and get your money back even your $5 ( at least in the U.S. you can get the $5 back)

    2)  on their forums they announced they had finialized the EU contracts and would shortly announce the pre order there and the goodies it included.

    3)  on their forums they also announced that they were still working on the Aussie pre order and hoped to have that completed soon

    4) unlike Gods and Heroes their has been nothing but good reviews coming out of the beta by outside reviewers.  Such as the people from MMORPG, Gamespot and such.

Magic is impressive, but now Minsc leads! Swords for everyone!

Everyone has had a chance to try the game for free already... everyone who is remotely interested in the game would have played the stress test which was available to anyone.

Also, the 15 days of early access is just an extension of the beta but you pay for the privilage of keeping your character.

I just haven't seen any evidence of the polishing that the game needed so i think i'll be giving it a miss, which is a shame as i really like the concept :(

And regarding "4) unlike Gods and Heroes their has been nothing but good reviews coming out of the beta by outside reviewers.  Such as the people from MMORPG, Gamespot and such." its a closed beta so anything that is released is either a breach of NDA or exactly what they want people to say.

Actually, that is not the case.  When they release information of course it is what they want.  When they invite others to review those peoplelget to print what they want.

I would be interested in what polishing you want.  As I am alwasy interested in others opinions.

I would point out that the stress test was not an open beta .  It was restricted to 10k  who received their keys from fileplanet.  Additionaly, it used a 2 month old build.

The reason they allow people to have a 2 weeks headstart is to establish working economy for release.

So when regular people start, there will be ship deeds on AH, upgrades, ammo etc. And some raw materials to build your own structures.

Bah.. I will wait for a new server... I played WoW for awhile and I waited for a new server to make a character and I played that one character for 2 years. Someone getting a 15 day advantage over every one else is BS. I want to start a new game at square one with every one else at the same spot. I hope they make a server for the 15 dayers then make a new server for everyone else when it comes out on its release date, who doesn't want to toss their money at a preorder package. I have been looking forward to POTBS for awhile but giving a people a 15 day advantage because they toss some cash at them sucks, what next, " we plan on implementing if you pay 20 dollars a month rather than 15 dollars a month you get this.......(put in item that makes people have an advantage of another paying customer) or 30 or 40?" where does it stop.

There will be no advantage (this is my opinion as valid as yours, so take as it is). This is not a regular MMO where you start early, burn through content, start raiding early and then show up  in 1337 gear near the town gate calling  passerbys noobs.  There  is no advantage in early start  except setting up a running production line.

Preorders are not "throwing money" at FLS, they get none until the actual box is sold. The only purpose of the preorders is to indicate for publisher the approximate demand for the game so they can supply the boxes to the store. I'm not sure if computer stores charge shelving fees, but i'm pretty sure they want to know the demand for a game which will take some space in their selling space.

It's a plain and fair deal, you preorder (i.e. give indication that you, may be, are going to buy  it)  and get in 2 weeks early.

Every single MMO does it. So i'm not sure why is it a problem with PotBS. I had a month headstart in LotR, not mentioning i was 8 months in beta before that. The only advantage i had is that i knew all the newb zone quest and was able to help the regulars answering their questions in the zone chat.

I'll give my opinion as to why its a problem. Because its US only WTF!!! This is precisely the reason Blizzard will own so much of the market in comparison to any game published and released by SOE because they have no idea what they're doing.

Blizzard made their game available to all, in fact some might say went out of their way to make it even more accessable to non yanks and it it shows in their subs.

I have been looking forward to the game for a long time, but I simply will not be giving any money to any one with such open views on racism.

Sorry, what? Where's the correlation there? If I'm the one on the end of the racism why exactly would I then support it in any form? Your example on the other hand I'm suspecting was a reply to a different post and you simply made a mistake. Its okay we all do from time to time.

OK. Let me break it down to you.

You said that peorders being US only indicates the FLS racist ploy against the rest of the world. Given that this is simply ridiculous, I guess it's just a flame bate which I was too eager to swallow.

I've been to South East Asia, and i haven't met more racists anywhere else than there, Mainland China being especially bad. May be Japan, but that's a different story, they are more xenophobic than racist.

Has there been an official decision about whether or not PotBS will be under the "flag" of SOE's All Station Pass???

If not I think it might be more difficult to persuade patrons already using the All Station Pass to "set sail" with PotBS.

Perhaps for the pre-orders allowing them to populate a certain server then during the official release allow the option for all the other pirates to join that server or not would be best.

The way online MMOs have been released this year, competition has been getting fierce & will only get more so.  Let alone sum of the horrid states the games have been released in should make everyone a bit more cautious when it comes to pre-order trickery.

first , EQ did have a special server for those who wanted to pay an extra fee

More to the point the reason for the 15 day is so that when you join on launch day you have items to buy and shop.  The entire economy is player based.  How would you feal if before you could buy items to upgrade your lvl 4 ship you were lvl 20+

the PvP here is skill based unlike wow.  A lvl 10 who understands the tactics can easily beat a lvl 20.  So this way you have an economy and are at no disadvantage.

You are correct the October 23 was the date for the U.S. preorder kits.  However, they have announced that they will have  EU and an Assuie pre order kit available prior to the Jan 7th start date.  They did announce that they have signed the contracts for the EU one and are just working out what will be in the kit and that they are flying down to Austrailia to finalize the details for there
