Is it time?

QuestionableQuestionable Member Posts: 653

Is it time? This question has been asked many times by Darkfall fans when thinking

or talking about beta. There are those who disbelieve that Darkfall exists or ever will

surface but then there are others who believe it is just right around the corner. Yet still

others who are unsure with their decisions about which one to believe. In order to help

those who do not believe or are still unsure it is necessary to clear up some of these

concerns that they may have.

A major issue people have with Darkfall is its long development time frame. There

are many reasons to why this is. One is the fact that Aventurine wants their beta to be a

very polished, completed piece of work. Another reason is how it actually started. I will

not go into very specific detail but in 2000 Rasorwax was formed consisting of Claus

Grovdal, Kjetil Helland , and Ricki Sickenger. The team did increase in size and up to

around 2003 there were a total of 8 members. Around this time is when Rasorwax and

Aventurine merged into one and moved their project to Athens, Greece. This is what is

considered by most the start of the true development phase. Also what most people don't seem

to understand is that Darkfall is trying to go above and beyond what most games now are

doing, yet are still trying to stick the development time of a normal MMO on it.

The next issue is that people believe that Darkfall has no publisher which is

incorrect. This publisher is also helping to develop Darkfall and its name is Aventurine.

Some people will suddenly jump on me and say "Why are they looking for another publisher ?" the

answer ,quite simply, is "We've already planned for self-publishing, but we need  to know who's willing and able to do it better."

The last of the major issues is the amount of info which is actually given. Many

will agree that these journals haven't really shown all to much different but this was

already explained to us before the updates were actually started.

"Often due to disclosure issues we’re forced to be vague, or talk around topics and this is

sometimes mistaken for coyness, by those who wish to interpret it that way.

We get plenty of requests for publicity, most of them involve us having to create regular

content, or answering interview questions we've answered a million times before. Answers to

questions we haven't answered before are often in the realm of information we're not allowed

to disclose."

Now we can move on to the subject of beta. To understand why beta might actually

come out this year is to look at some of the past beta announcements because some will think

its going to end up like the last one. When the first one was cancelled it seems like a

reasonable choice seeing as how they just joined a company with a bigger financial backing.

Which in this case means they can create a better game with their new money and more time.

Now in 2005 the cancellation of beta is still rather unknown and hard to say why. After

looking over those past events you have to compare it to the events occurring now. Firstly

Aventurine finally got hold of their notice of allowance which gives them the right to use

"Darkfall" and next it is discovered is about their $27 million loan. Now what would a

company with a substantial loan that plans to self-publish do with that sort of money? Next

the clan beta signup sheets are down and in their stead an announcement is made about how

their getting ready for single beta participant forms. On top of that in the recent review

by Asp from LoD he says "While I didn’t get confirmation (not that I can reveal)..." if he

didn’t get any confirmation than it would make so much more sense to not add that part in

there unless of course there was something that was actually said.

Hopefully this clears up any misconceptions or confusions you may have about

Darkfall and gives you a clearer view of the reasons why people believe beta is coming.

After reading this you should ask yourself this one statement. Is it time?

Although I kept an eye on DF for quite some time, I usually wasent that excited until a few weeks ago. For the most part I was just a lurker and my opinion was that there has to be some problem with the game. I did not think it was money since they have been able to keep the project under development for so long, my opinion was that there were technical problems involved in trying to put together such a game. I had the feeling that eventually 2 things would happened, either the project would be cancelled or the game would be completed, but I wasent sure what would be the condition of the game at release.

I had a glimmer of hope when DF released a high resolution vid in Feb 2007, showing off Naval Battle, mounted combat, and pvp footage. It looked good, and I think everyone was excited, but that only feuled more speculation and more impatiance by the DF community.

What changed my mind was when Asp from LOD went to Athens and visited DF developers, I got excited because I played with and gainst LOD on quite a few occasions and they have a rep and longevity that not very many long standing guilds have. LOD members have a hard on from what they heard from Asp, and from the look of it DF is coming. Asp never mentioned anything specific to the general community, well in terms of the date but LOD seems to be excited now, and I wonder what they know that we don't.

In my opinion, look for a new DF website; the old one will be redone completely and they will update the new site with new vids &  screenshots from the new DF build.

Wrong.. Razorwax IS Aventurine. Aventurine is Razorwax. Always was , always will be. Aventurine was founded in 2002 by the Razorwax guys for no other reason but to develop Darkfall cheaper in Greece.....  There was no parent company to Aventurine.

They have no publisher. If you want to delude yourself into thinking otherwise than be my guest.

But that's a real nice biased fanboy write up you got going there. You should be proud.

While yes they are the same company now they helped in the development of Darkfall along with the orginal members of Rasorwax. Yes Aventurine is the publisher of Darkfall in case you didn't realize that.

There is absolutely no proof to support that claim.

What was Aventurines name before it was founded in 2002 if you say Aventurine was a military company before?  You won't find any.. because it didn't exist before than... They might have had interest in military projects after founding Aventurine in 2002 but there was never any past history before that time.

I bet you anything that if you look up the records of who registered Aventurine as a company in 2002 it's going to say one of the DF boys.

I'm still sitting on the fence here! the problem i have believing it is because there are so many other companys who make games that dont seem to be held back by restrictions as much as df doe's! other companys seem to be allowed to show of thier game while in production where DF seems to have to keep everything secret! why?

Why can't they just put peoples minds at rest and show the game at a show or something like other companys do? please dont think i am against this game as i am not, in fact i think if it comes out it has been made just for my tatstes :) I just wander why they have to be so secretive that's all.

this listing shows Vice Presidents for Aventurine being both Darkfall boys.  A company that was ALREADY established prior to 2002 would already have management in place and would not put two amateur coders from Norway as Vice Presidents..

C'mon people. Start using those brains. This is just commen sense stuff. It's not complicated.

    • Claus Grovdal (Lead Design and Producer)
    • Ricki Sickenger (Lead Tools and Game Logic Programmer)
    • Henning Ludvigsen (Art Director)
    • Kjetil Helland (Lead 3D/Client Programmer)
    • Erik Sperling Johansen (Lead Server Programmer)

taso and that other guy isnt there So your wrong about them being part of razor wax before the merge

When you're secretive , there is something to hide. When someone has something to hide , it's usually because it would not be good for too many people to know.

Ok than what is the history of this Tasos and other guy?

Actually, Questionable, Xion and Ubergoober do....  you are arguing with 3 of the most vigorous supporters on this site.  Read their post histories, its pretty much all they live for.

What I can't figure out is what their agenda is.....why even create a thread like this one?  I have an interest in many games, including DF, and I love debating various points about them, but these 3 people view any disagreement or attack on DF as almost a personal attack on one of their loved ones..

    Odd.....

I'm thinking the starting date of the DF beta is about as elusive as the 2nd coming of Christ..... no man (outside of the Maker) knows when it will happen.....

I don't really put much stock in beta's, heck, we've seen games can be canceled well into a beta so I'll wait until I see the game available for purchase, a launch date announced, and reports from beta say the game is good (unlike recent releases).... then I'll get excited.....

Until then, I'll be playing something else.....

I don't want to flame or been someone bad, but does this game isn't in development since forever. It make me think of Mourning.  Could it be a vaporware ?

I mean, I remember looking foward to darkfall when I was playing shadowbane (not soo far after shadowbane release) it's quite a while ago.  It look worse than Vanguard.

Seriously, does this game will ever release ?

Is that really that different than fans of any of the other games on this website? We all see the same behavior on other game forums regularly, myself I usually see them in AoC but im sure there are some elsewhere  I wouldn't have burned someone on this unless I was prepared to burn everyone that behaves in this way.

And I certainly try to heh.

Everything on the internet is not lies and anyone think such should reflect on that. Most info for this were at places that aventurine is not affiliated with. So when something is stated and other non-biased things back it up than yes I start to believe it. Its called inductive reasoning.

Being pessimistic, and yes thats what it is, is very illogical.

    Howitzer..

I really can't take you seriously, when you talk to people like that.. I have two questions for you:

1: What do you get out of it?

2: If you so do believe that DF will never be published, what the hell are you doing browsing the DF forum all the time??

I see you constantly hacking on the game over and over again! Are you getting paid to do it? LOL -If you don't have any interest in the game, at least you could do us the favor of staying the **** away from the DF forums, since you are pretty much ruining the experience for all the others!

Yes BUT.....look at WAR.  Look at the following they have and mainly because they are regularly sending monthly newsletters with all the fixins.  IMO, DF is crippeled for the time being until someone picks up the slack.  I think there would atleast be an updated website that lets us know the current situation no matter what it may be.  If they want to keep it secretive then okay, but they should explain in depth on a website that doesn't really exsist at this point.  Please nobody link that sorry excuse for a website that they currently have.

End result, it's horrible marketing.  Most people will move on to new games like WAR, AoC, ect because they are unsure of what DF has.  At this point I think people should stop with the elaborate ideas and false hope and take a more logical path as I have lately.  I use to be the biggest advocate of DF existing, but it just isn't true anymore.   The game exists to a point, but it's not going to be taken off the ground.
