its called streamlining and it happens all the time its no big deal. if mythic was this big cash cow company making money hand over fist they would have never been in a situation to be bought out in the 1st place. big company buys out a smaller fledgling company and makes some personnel changes in order to streamline the co. and get things to running more efficiently its nothing new.

Yep that is true if anyone offer you millions for your small company and tell you that you still can work under the company and you will still get paid. Money talks always.

The news is official now. Those folks that were going to loose their jobs at EA-Mythic as well as EA-Redwood have already lost their jobs as of right now.
IMHO it's not a very good thing when first they announce that beta is being shut down for 2 months, and mere weeks later people are getting fired and dev-houses consolidated.
But thats EA for you.
That had nothing to do with the beta being closed until December though lol. They did the same thing around March-ish. Closed it to add new stuff and revamp things beta testers thought wasn't working right or should be added or removed. These are scheduled stops. They did move the UO studio into the Mythic studio though because the UO was bringing in the least profit.
I really think this wont effect WAR a lot if not at all, mainly because WAR isn't 100% Mythic's product, it's partly controled the big pointy finger of justice that is Games Workshop. EA only bought up Mythic thats only 50% of the control of the game the main nod will always come from GW, if EA start tinking with WAR the 'bigger dragon' wont be best pleased on shunt the Fantasy IP towards THQ and Relic (same dev struchure there too btw, no issues with them so far).. Something EA will not like..
That in mind heres how I see the issue at hand..
EA bought up Mythic not only for it's games but for it's MMO exeperince probly due to the fact EA aren't that good with managing MMOs, but Mythic are, UO is EA's MMO puppy which has just done a massive overhall of it's game's graphical engine, so theres a lot of that Dev team they don't need anymore, it can now be wittled down to the basics..
So this reshuffling isn't IMO isn't to do with WAR they are putting UO in more 'experinced' hands, EA would be completly foolish TBH to mess with a good dev team thats proven their games work they're just beefing it up, I hope..
When EA bought mythic and bioware im sure some where in the papers are things haveing to do with their mmos. i doubht ea has much control over them and that they really just money from it when it goes live.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

Except that it's already been made official, so the "source" in this case was telling the truth.
It has also been made official that Mythic has expanded. They are now expanding onto a new floor(that is now filled), they have a bunch more coders, artists, etc working on WAR. This is recent as of last week so obviously this streamlining isn't having a big impact on WAR. This is confirmed not only through Pauls blog on myspace but also I believe Mark Jacobs on the Warhammer alliance mentioning getting a bunch of new staff.
So the people calling doomsday for WAR can go back to their tinfoil houses.

Agreed.
The beta alone is approaching half a million applicants. EA is not blind to this.
I'm going back into my non-tinfoil house to wait for the announcement about the Collector's Edition. (Yes, a dev recently gave a winkwinknudgenudge that such an announcement would be coming.)
In August I interviewed at Mythic for a CS position on DAoC. When I was leaving the office, Rob DiBiano lead me out and told me they had 4 floors designated for WAR alone.
And I didn't get that job either...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Well I typed out a nice big response but decided this would be better.
EVERYONE PUT ON YOUR TINFOIL HATS! EA COULD BE READING THIS!

I live to fight, and fight to live.
An internal memo was leaked which said, in effect, that to increase profits they would like all offices to "trim the fat."
I guess I would be more concerned with this if I had been taking Paranoid Pills.
But ... I'm not.
