World of Warcraft is still one of the Best MMOs Ive played.

We're coming up on the 3 year anniversary of World of Warcraft in November, say what you will WoW still is at the top of the heap.

Success for this game is no accident, Blizzard has an almost zenlike understanding of what makes an MMO fun.  Fun for all?  Probably not, but fun for most, theres plenty to do and reaching max level in many respects is only the begining.

-Playable on just about any modern PC with a 3d graphics card.

-More content than you can shake a stick at.

-HUGE player population

-Tons of servers.

-Just plain fun.

I've enjoyed my time in Azeroth, and look forward to the coming expansion.

No, Im not getting paid to write this, I'm making a point to some friends.  Everything I wrote there I happen to believe though.

How many other MMO's have you played?

What MMO did you start with?

WoW is the most boring mmog I have ever played, for me it was game over after only 3 months of play, that is personal record longes I have played any game was Asherons Call it lasted for 4 years.

  • GreenChaosGreenChaos Member Posts: 2,268

I think the quest and combat systems are boring as hell, and don’t try to saying they aren’t, because they are.

But they do everything else extremely well.  And have raised the bar for MMOs big time in many areas other then combat.

Their scriptable, customizable UI is fantastic.  The art directors on that team are probably the best or one of the best in the business.  The fact that it runs only older machines and on macs is just smart business.

best mmo and probably the best game i've ever played if I consider the time I spent .I will probably be playing wow for a long time to come. Gz blizz :D

    Started with swg...played ao,daoc,eq2,lineage2

    Best in your opinion maybe..

But you cannot influence the world in anyway and the market and the game is NPC driven which put me off it quite alot, that and that its XP based and it has a level cap.

Pretty game though to keep the masses apeased.

Nowhere in your post did you describe why the gameplay is fun, except by saying "it's just plain fun". All the other reasons you use for WoW being fun are due to the games popularity.

Lots of content - it's easy to make content when you have the money Blizzard has, and still I wouldn't say WoW has the most of any game.

Huge player population - If you go server by server WoW has about the same population as other popular games out there with less servers.

Tons of servers - I don't know how this makes it fun, if anything it's a bane, When you join a newer server you run this risk of it flourishing or dying out. In games with less servers the population is usually more evened out.

I'm not saying you can't find WoW fun, I'm just saying you need to articulate it better if you want to be taken seriously.

I'm glad you like it and as long as you enjoy it keep rocking on.  However, I find that I don't enjoy WoW as it lacks substance.  Sure it has pretty graphics (I like them), the interface / gameplay is easy to learn (UI can be customized as well), there are tons of quests, there is pvp, and there are raids to go on.  The problems I ran into are two folk:  First, I felt that the quests served no real purpose and I found that I didn't even really read them.  I looked to find where I needed to go, what I needed to kill and / or collect and that was it.  They served no purpose with-in the storyline / plot and it got old very quickly (after level 20 I dreaded getting another quest).  Second, the pvp served no purpose in game.  It was fun for a short period of time but it would be nice if your victory or loss accomplished something in the game world.

Overall I don't play games simply to acquire mad lewt or to say I went on a raid and killed uber boss "xyz", I don't even really like to camp a spawn and kill creatures over and over again.  I want a game to have quests that tie in with each other and I get the sense that my character is actually doing something in the game world.  I want battles where the outcome matters.  *shrugs*  To each their own.

So you are saying his opinion would be wrong because your opinion is right. Are you Sisyphus?

I don't understand the point of this thread. He thinks WoW is the best mmo hes played, so what? We each have our own idea of what our favourite is. I liked WoW myself but for me it missed something.

Those are fantastic arguments. Huge population is really convincing (JOIN THE MASSES!), Just plain fun sounds really convicing as well. Tons of servers... okay that's the best one I guess. More content that you can shake, aye you either grind raids, .. or you grind pvp. Nothing besides that, sounds like a LOT OF content. And playable on crap computer is another great aspect, especially for people with 2-4GB ram and 512MB graphic card + which is pretty common nowadays. All in all, great reasons yeh, very convincing. What the hell did I think? Thanks for opening my eyes, I didnt realize im wasting my time with no fun games with low population, that has no content at all!

I've played a metric ton of MMOs over the years and WoW is still the best I have played.

Recently I've been playing free trials, betas and whatever else I can when Im not playing WoW and they get uninstalled within a day because they arent nearly as good as WoW.

Doubt I'll be leaving WoW anytime soon too, especially for the hype machines called AoC and WAR.

WoW is the most polished mmo and "easy to learn" for mmo newbies

    its a fun ride levelling

after 4months of playing, when you are 70, you will be bored unless you love to Raid or PVP

Go play Vanguard.... WoW has proved it dont need all those gimmiks to be sucessful. But it does have crafting (which could be a whole lot better ill admit) and im sure guildhalls soon.

Yes thank you for advice, I am playing Vanguard :)

And successful is pretty relative term. Yes WoW is commercially succesfull, but Spice Girls were also commercially succesful at their time.

Socializing and roleplaying are perfectly possible in any MMO, including WoW. Although I'd admit in WoW you may have to be more picky about who you socialize with - the downside of being popular.

Ships and housing are gimmicks. May please some people, but not me.

And I like the crafting in WoW. Much better than EQ2 where you have to spend hour upon hour playing the same mind-numbingly simple mini-game. Ryzom had a better crafting system - although that game had other flaws.

Like it or loath it WoW is more or less a bench mark now.

Some games will be better and some will be worse.

Almost everyone has played it and know what it is like.

And i think the OP is right it is still one of the best MMO's out there, or should i say the best!

  • garbonzogarbonzo Member Posts: 260

Yea I thought I was done with WoW and was dabbling in other games waiting for AoC and WAR.  Then with the release delays I went back to WoW and am having  a good bit of fun all over again.  For me, the combat (mainly PvP) is fast and very responsive - so much more immediate than other MMOs I've played.

It's not just autoshoot like some people say.  Take a hunter for example, so many choices and considerations in a 20 second fight:  managing your pet, who's he attacking? how's his health? move him to another target? heal him and risk getting aggro? take aggro from him or let him keep it? how's my health? bandage? heal pot? gift of naruu (draenai)? keep trap down - freeze to run away for range, or frost trap to kite the enemy through it? which sting to use - damage or reduce abilities? enemy is closing on me - melee or wing clip and try to get range? how can i use terrain? etc etc.  I find that these choices play out in many different ways in PvP depending on the other player(s)/class(es) - really fun stuff.  And, my hunter is only level 34, so i'll get even more skills/choices later.

I definitely look forward to new titles with more complexity of story and character development, but WoW is a great achievement.

Oh, and I've played AO, GW, EQII, Eve, LOTRO, VG - so I've tried some others.  WoW is the most fun of them all imo.

Is this a joke? Yeh it's very hard and so many choices, that there are plenty of BOTS that can do that with high effectivity (30-40k xp per hour grinding at level 60, I remember).

A hunter its usually pressing: 1, 2, 3 and then watch and wait. Where 1 is - send pet, 2 is hunter's mark, 3 is serpent's sting. The rest is autoattack.

In PVP it was like, poison trap, 1, X, run around a little pressing 3 and 4. Where X is wing clip, and 4 is arcane shot. After 10 seconds pressing Z for intimidation (pet's stun), and then another running around pressing 4 all the time it's ready. And if enemy is going too close, just pressing 5 which was that ability making you invulnerable to any slow or stun effects.

God, that's so many abilities. I'm stunned.

A PvE bot.. which all MMO's have.

A hunter its usually pressing: 1, 2, 3 and then watch and wait. Where 1 is - send pet, 2 is hunter's mark, 3 is serpent's sting. The rest is autoattack.

There is no watching in WoW PvP. no wonder you hate WoW using that combo would spell certian death for you in PvP.

In PVP it was like, poison trap, 1, X, run around a little pressing 3 and 4. Where X is wing clip, and 4 is arcane shot. After 10 seconds pressing Z for intimidation (pet's stun), and then another running around pressing 4 all the time it's ready. BM spec, which is 5min cooldown on beast wrath and 2 mins on pet stun, what do you do after that? oh yeah you autoshot as you said above ROFL. So when fughting mages you let them get close to wingclicp? you dont use mana drain? you dont use scatter shot when players get too close? you dont use concussion shot? you dont use slow traps? When fighting rogues you dont use flares, save your scatter shot incase he jumps you, hit feign death to stop hit attack? drop a freese trap? I could go on.

For all class you run around auto shooting?  As I said no wonder you hate WoW you are a free frag in PvP.

God, that's so many abilities. I'm stunned.

I suggest you play PvP on your level and not go around ganking players 9 levels lower then you after they have been in a fight and are low on HP.

-Playable on just about any modern PC with a 3d graphics card.
-More content than you can shake a stick at.  In all honesty the amount of content, while it is large, is really easy to burn through very quickly.  I'd rather have the amount of content like an EQ2 where there's so much that I have to level 4 or 5 characters to even see most of it.  WoW you can see everything there is to see on 1 character per side.
-HUGE player population  Maybe on some servers, but the majority are ghost towns.  Have you tried to play into the mide 30s or 40s right now?  You'll be running around by yourself.
-Tons of servers.  This was fun for the first year when you could reroll into a newly populated server where the pop would grow, but they drastically cut down on new releases because they realized they have too many.   I don't see how this is even a positive.  They have far too many servers that are fairly empty.
-Just plain fun.  I will admit, the journey from 1-60 was extremely fun the first time through, but after a while it got stale and adding more rep grinds and instance grinds does not make me want to keep playing.  Ooo you added a new battleground in this expansion?!?  Well it blows.  Why am I pvping anyway, the gear is ok, but cmon now theres absolutely no purpose to it.  Give me sieges and city warfare.  Care to explain your thoughts here?

I've enjoyed my time in Azeroth, and look forward to the coming expansion.  Not me.  I've had enough of this.  Raided for almost 2 years, seen what there was to see, did what there was to do (over and over and over I might add).

You never described why you like any aspects of this game.  Yah, its fun, why?  Why is having tons of servers a good thing?

Jesus, the first part is talking about PVE grind. I hoped I made it pretty obvious, but I guess I need to be more specific when dealing with WoW-fanboy

And god I was describing the basic outline in duelling, not battlegrounds (thats even simplier). But god this discussion is out of topic and pointless. I shouldnt start it im taking back.

But anyway, bots are mostly in WoW and asian grindfests. There is no single bot for Vanguard, because that's too hard for a bot to exist. Bot in WoW can be pretty effective, almost as a player. Mostly because the player interaction is terribly low.
