Proof is in the pudding... testimonials from real Vanguard gamers

Everytime you turn around, you find someone on the MMORPG forums putting Vanguard down, and I started noticing something.... there is a MAJOR difference between the attitudes towards Vanguard compared between those posted on MMORPG.com and those posted on the official Vanguard forums.

Then it occurred to me that you can't post on the official Vanguard forums unless you are an active Vanguard subscribers.  That lead me to start wondering how many of these "Vanguard sucks" threads started on MMORPG.com are actually made by VanHaters that don't even have a Vanguard subscription.

Hense, I thought I would post a link to a recent thread on the Official Vanguard Forums made by people that recently came back to Vanguard and love it.  Note that these are posts made by people who ACTUALLY have a Vanguard subscription proven by the fact they are posting on the Official Vanguard forums and not just a troll.

Uh, ok...so you are saying that people who enjoy the game subscribe, while those who didn't no longer subscribe [and therefore can no longer post]?   This is what passes for enlightenment these days?

  • Scorn_ArkaneScorn_Arkane Member Posts: 189

Can people who canceled their subscription post there? Because I canceled my sub after I had a level 50 Blood Mage when the game first came out because there was really nothing to do and there wasn't many people to play with. The reason you see happier posts there and not here, is because you would have no reason to post there if you do not play anymore. People come here for all mmorpgs so you see a lot of people who played, thought it was garbage, moved on, but still visit this site. I still join in on FFXI and Vanguard and WoW discussions on here, but I do not visit their forums on their respective sites.

This is a site to discuss all MMORPGs, so even if you do not play anymore you are more likely to participate in a topic here. You wouldn't go on a WoW forum to talk about Vanguard and I wouldn't go on Square Enix forums to talk about WoW.

Is there a demo or trial available?

I played in Beta and actually liked the game play, but it ran so horrible and was so buggy that I threw it out.

And once released, I hear it was the same as Beta.

Been hearing it's gotten a lot better, does have some intriguing elements of both sandbox and linear game play... but I'm not going to buy without having a try.

Nice try lawyer boy, but you conviently leave out the fact that people are making "Vanguard sucks" threads after stating they RESUBSCRIBED to Vanguard.  If you RESUBSCRIBE to Vanguard, then you have the rights to post on the Official Vanguard forums.

Thank you.  You made my point for me.  I am reffering to the fact that people are making "Vanguard sucks" and "Vanguard still sucks" threads on here and claiming they know this because they RESUBSCRIBED.

If you RESUBSCRIBED, then that means you have an active Vanguard subscription even if it is for only one month.  That means they can post on the Official Vanguard forums during that month.  Yet, you don't see them post on the official Vanguard forums do you?  Nope.  They just post here.

If you really resubscribed for Vanguard and it sucked, then post about it on the Official Vanguard forums and link to that post on here for us.

But they are not playing anymore. I do not know why you let it get under your skin so much that you had to make a topic about it here. Everybody  knows that making these types of threads only incite more flames.

It has always been fashionable to insult Vanguard. I knew players who were so hostile and really it is only because they chose to spend so much time following VG during beta that they were supremely let down when the game was released. The lesson they should have learned was not to follow games so obsessively while they are in development. But, instead, they came here and to Silky Venom to trash talk about the game like I had never seen before.

Anyway, maybe you should encourage those who are posting on the official VG forums to come over here and defend the game. This is a big problem with MMORPG.com. There's isn't enough talk about positive aspects of games. Everyone here seems to complain about everything endlessly.

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

But they delete threads over there like that, silly. Over here you can speak freely for the most part.

Who in their right mind would resubscribe to a game that they think sucks?

Personally, I plan on taking it for a trial run in January or February - once I can afford a new video card after paying for the kids' Christmas.

The trial is on its way.  They are making a "trial island" so to speak that will be absolutely free to download and play.  I believe it is supposed to be released sometime after Game Update 3.3.  It is likely taking them a while to get it out because they are concentrating on the massive raid content coming out in Game Update 3.3.

Do a search for "trial island" on the official Vanguard forums, and you will find dev posts on it there I am sure.

Ok that statement is pure propaganda.  They do not delete threads where people post about the issues they are having in the game.  They do, on the other hand, delete threads full of hate and threats of which fully deserve to be deleted.  If you can't argue your point with out sounding like a 9 year old in reform school, then you don't deserve the right to post.

If you title it in a negative light, but being truthful, they will delete it. I played Vanguard for three months after launch and two months of beta. I know, I have seen them first hand. An incorrect title will get it deleted, no doubt. I don't care how well you write out your views and that is no lie, no propaganda.

Um why would anyone that tried the game and found it sucked resubscribe? Sorry I tried it when it first came out and it did suck. I'd be a totall loon to resubscribe to it. Sorry it had its chance it failed (and not just alittle) Time to move on, theres way too many more new and better games on the horizon then to go back and throw even more money away on old garbag.

     My 2 cents

VG never sucked. It was buggy. It was laggy. It had a shitty developer, but it never sucked. :)

And judging by your logic, we should just stop playing all previously released games just because there are new ones on the horizon.

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

He was likely referring to how unbalanced PvP was or the lack of content when it launched. I think everyone knew the game was released months too early though.

Trial islands are not the way to go. See, this is a bad move imho. Creating trial islands is a trick in deception. People think the game is populated because of all these people on "trial island" that they subscribe. Then they go to the mainlands and find it empty (and then come here and complain). This happened in EQ2 and Saga of Ryzom. Why not just give people two weeks to try out the game as it is? Why waste further resources on making a trial island? I'm sure the player base would like more content instead.

Also, as a returning player, a trial island makes no sense to me. Why would I waste time there? Telon was meant to be open. It was meant that a new player (if smart enough) can go to any starter area in the game. As a returning player, I want to be able to see these so called improvements first hand. Now, the only choice seems that I've gotta pay before I can make a firm real decision if I'll ever return.

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

What is your idea of  it being sucked., those 3 things right there make it suck in my book..and you left MANY other things out.

I notice at Game Stop the game is 20 bucks now, a bit of a price drop that soon in a games life, oh well

Thanks, I will definetly keep an eye out for the Trial.

As I said before, I liked the game play and freedom / multitude of options but it just ran SO bad and had SO many bugs... hopefully with the Trial they'll have fixed all that kept me away before.

If by proof you are trying to "prove" the state of Vangaurd by showing what a websites that has a vested interest in making their game look good vs a free forum of people who can speak whatever they want, then I am not convinced.

Proof would be something like Sigil going belly up.  SOE not being able to put out a trial in X months now.  The dev team getting cut down in size from 104 to 45ish, then getting cut again down to 25ish (I don't know the actual number but that looks to be close).  Servers getting merged down to 4.  Those are things that are not opinion and they send a clear message of the state of the game.

I can go find forums of people raving about the quality of Dark and light, Horizons, SWG, Earth and Beyond, Asherons call2, Gods and Heroes and even Auto assault.  Does that show the proof in the pudding about those being quality games that shaped up?  No it doesn't, because as a game gets smaller in population those players tend to be die hard supporters that feel a personal investment in their games.

There is nothing wrong with loving the game you play and choosing to overlook its short comings, but it also doesn't mean those that choose to acknowledge them are somehow full of lies.  Even SOE admits the game has a long long way to go.

Ok, it was buggy, laggy and had a bad developer, but didnt suck?

What is your idea of  it being sucked., those 3 things right there make it suck in my book..and you left MANY other things out.

I notice at Game Stop the game is 20 bucks now, a bit of a price drop that soon in a games life, oh well

Well, I'm not playing VG at the moment because the bugs, the lag, and the shitty developer was enough for me to not want to support the game. Mostly, it was Mr. McQuaid' horrible behavior that made me not want to support the game on moral grounds. But despite all of those problems, I can still take a step back and see that there are many positive aspects to the game. Too bad the problems outweighed them. Now, if the game had no positive aspects at all, I would definitely say it sucked! :)

Oh, I'm sure it has been $20 at Game Stop for months now. Surprisingly, Direct2Drive is still trying to hawk it for $39.99. Crazy people...

Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.

LOL I was just going to ask the same thing.

Just because those people who are active subscribers who post on the VG official forums doesn't mean that other players who have canceled subs have invalid opinions.

Those posting on the official forums are still active members for whatever reason. While people who played it and bash the game are voicing their opinions on other forums. The validity of having a opinion while subscribed is a little biased, just because they are paying customers means they like the game obviously.

I have seen the collector's edition at GameStop (in Philadelphia) for $19.99.

Yeah, I am sure if as the OP says the game is getting better, a collector's edition would not have dropped 80 bucks.

The fact that they had to consolidate down to ... what, 3 US servers?  That tells you everything you need to know about how many happy customers this game has.  Every terrible game has a few thousand die-hard idealist fans who desperately want the game to be better than it actually is.

I see posts all the time about people coming back to Vanguard to see if it's better.  And yet, still only 3 US servers?  That can only mean that just as many people are leaving as are (re-)subscribing.

Get back to us when those official forums announce that the game is so popular that they need to split servers due to overcrowding.

Why do all the pro VG people care so much? If someone who has never played it goes by a "VG sucks" thread to make their decision, why would you want them in the game anyways?  I played the beta, and waited till a few weeks ago to get back in it because of all the positive changes they supposedly made.  But you know what? Still sucks.  Just my opinion, but there was nothing vastly different, same lame animations, same limited creation tool, etc.  The framerate did seem better though I must say, it was less laggy.

VG has wonderful ideas, amazing background graphics, and from what I've gotten from it, a decent community.  Crafting is also pretty fun for awhile, but none of that outweighs the stiff animations, boring combat, and ugly character models.  All this is only my opinion though.
