Dont bother trolling, because I really dont care about all the negative that you ppl have to say. I want to hear the positive.
me: played VG at release, got to teh mid 20's, could handle the performance issues and lack of players, so I left. Have basically played every mmo, have 7 max lvl toons in WoW, etc etc. At any rate, I am a very serious, very efficient and experienced MMO player. I have played literally everything I can think of, even the free ones.
The task here is simple. I want REAL VANGUARD PLAYERS to tell me why I should renew my sub. Basically.. what has changed. All I ever hear are the haters, so this is your chance to lay it out there for me. Things Im looking for are...
Hows performance? lag? CTD's? How is the housing feature and how does it work? Hows the economy? Are flying mounts in teh game yet? if so, what kinds? How is the player population? Give it all to me. Imagine you are trying to sell thi sto someone who never picked up the game.. gimme all the good, and only the bad that is relavant to the good. For example: "yes flyers are in the game, but no they dont work right".
All you flamers... Nice try, I wont bother reading your post. I have a few friends that play this, and I hear things are getting better. Now is your chance to sell me on it. Make me want to resubscribe!! WoW is killing me.. lolz

Performance has improved, significantly for some. CTDs are reduced overall, significantly for some. Of course with anything, this doesn't apply to everybody. Phase I did seem to fix the Vista issue, our guild's Vista players are no longer crashing.
Flying mounts are in as rentable... 3 different types (wyvern, griffon and unicorn). You get 5 minutes, then they poof and you float down from there. Very nice, as they are completely free-ranging... anywhere you want to go as long as it is in the time limit. The permanent flying mount quest should be in Game Update 3 phase II or III.
Player pop is solid after the merge. Seradon runs about 1700-1800 during primetime and it's going up.
I've played it from day 1. Personally I love the game. I've played many and the only two I've ever really enjoyed are EQ and VG.
Aren't your friend's testimonials enough? Geez bro, what more do you want? What kind of friends do you have if you can't trust what they are telling you? Plus if you're an experienced MMO player and you've played VG before, then you mostly know what to expect. Is it that you're psyching yourself up to want to like VG for whatever reason? I think there are plenty of threads already with current players giving their opinions, good or bad. Why not read them? You think by asking trollers to stay away that they will? Just because you say you're not going to read their post doesn't mean anything. Other people will and if they can convince other people to stay away from VG, they've done their job.
Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.
aaah yes, normally that would be true. But these are my friends here.. the same ones that think WoW is Gods gift to MMO's... So yeeeeeah, I'm thinking their tastes and mine are.. not so similar lol.
Over the last few months the game has got better and better. There is still not as much solo content as I would like, but performance is up (like 10-20 fps since up[date 3), population is up (due server merges) and as a result the game is far more playable. I too have played VG since launch, and am therefore able to see the effort that has been put into this game to get it right and by the look of things there is a lot more to come. More and more people are coming back to the game and this will only be a good thing. Lets the flamers flame, at the end of the day the only way to see if this game has moved on enough to start playing again is to bite the bullet and pay one month's subscription. I don't think you will be disappointed.
like the other guy said for many performance and CTD got major, major inproments. New quest lines have been added, raids are going on, more optimization going in.
However, I have one other thing that will get you to come....mature players. That right, mature, fun, and friendly.
I didnt notice how much until I was doing some research for my comic at TTH and I played WoW. Needless to say is Vanguard is the opposite. I wanted so bad to get off, log on and just chat with some people who dont say the "F" word for no reason and help each other, etc.
Anyway, vanguard has community in spades...or hearts depending on the card game
I beta-tested the game a little and since I am a Station Pass subscriber, I decided to buy the game. Performance issues were so great that I just couldn't play. I popped in every few weeks, and then I had to take off the client to use the 17 GB on something else.
About a week ago I decided to give it a try again...something to do until the Kunark expansion in EQ2. I am hooked. The performance issues are way down, I installed some UI mods from vginterface.com (Drox and InfoMap), and I am having a blast. I am only up to lvl 11 adventuring (Thestran human paladin) but I am just about to do my lvl 11 crafting quest and I am lvl 7 as a diplomat...I got my free horse from a diplomacy quest and it helps a lot.
I don't know about higher level content, but I do see people around the starting areas (I never did before). My guild membership is down a lot, but there are a few hardcore players and things seem good. It isn't like LOTRO, where I think everyone tried it and got bored and left. Many people left VG because of the performance issues, and I just am not seeing those -- I actually play for hours each night without a CTD (I used to CTD on an hourly basis).
I feels a bit easier to play, but it isn't WOWish (to me at least). Even with the graphics turned down a bit for performance I think it looks great.
Yes, SOE messed up SWG (damn them!), which seems to be the source of so many of the haters online, but they did polish up EQ2, and it looks like they will do the same to VG. It isn't quite the hardcore game that the Vanbois wanted, but it works for an old EQ player like me that is a bit tired of EQ2 and doesn't want to trade down in challenge.
I can't say whether I'd recommend you coming back because your reasons for leaving may not mirror mine, but I will say this; I am glad that I resubbed.
Population is MUCH better, and as others have said the people are just friendlier, and easier to deal with. My guild is small, but the people in it are genuinely nice and helpful.
Performance has gone up quite a lot from release. I still have some hitches here and there (geforce 8800 gtx anyone? =P) but it is definitely improved.
But yeah, no one can really make you know if you are going to be happy coming back. That will only come from you trying it out again. Whether now, or down the line a ways.
Oh, but I DO suggest waiting till GU3 is fully implemented before returning that way everything is further along.
Since no-one has mentioned it yet, I thought i'd give you a bit of an update on the economy.
Prices are quite stable across the board. Im a 50 carpenter and am constantly buying mats and selling weapons, house parts etc. On Seradon the mats i buy (mainly Obsidian timber and Aged Leather) have been stable at 35g and 9g respectively since the merge. Theres a handful of T5 Ultra Rare dusts that go for insane prices, but on the whole prices are quite rational and stable.
when is GU3 releasing?
C'mon back! The crash to desk top issues that were a constant pretty much from beta, are gone (for me anyway). The number of bugs in general are much, much fewer. My FPS around cities after phase 1 of GU3 has jumped from 8-12 to 30-40. Thats the tech stuff.
On the game play side I still love the play and the classes and the non linear "I choose where I want to quest" huge world. I have played since closed beta, and my emotions about VG have run the whole range. But (and I tried) I simply couldn't find a game that let me do what VG lets me do. Be free. I don't want or need a dev to take me by the hand and do my thinking, it's suppose to be an adventure, it's suppose to be difficult at times. Some people don't want that. If you do head to VG.
