So how is this game going to be better than WoW?

JupstoJupsto Member UncommonPosts: 2,075

so I can't be bothered to do tons of research in this game. I have a fair bit, watched quite a few videos and I don't see why it'll be better than WoW. I'm not saying WoW will be better or than WAR will suck or is a ripp off. just wondering why you the WAR fans think this game will be better because the only thing I can see is better quality of graphics (although still looks the same).

things that I liked in warhammer model game was the assassins and the repeater crossbows of the dark elves. repeater cross bows ARE the dark elves. its what they are supposed to be all about. and yet there are none so idk wtf is going on with that. also where is the assassin class omg! this game doesn't seem to have stealth either which is one of the most interesting mmorpg mechanics, love it or hate it. assassins in original warhammer are way cool, why would you not put them in this game. totally kills it. witch elves in the original model game are not rogue like, they are tanks. they totally messed this up and should have made assassins instead.

also the lore of warhammer model game is being repackaged for kids imo. some of the models are nude like harpies and the lore is more adult. FC have the balls to put nudity in thier game since its in the lore, but mythic seem to just be repackaging warhammer and aiming it at the WoW market with a teen rating imo.

What does havign naked harpies add to the game? Well, maybe it would help the atmosphere of the game to be dark and evil.. then again, once you start reading in general chat about what chuck noris would do with said naked harpies the atmosphere will be dead :)

Warhammer doesn't have stealthers (shouldn't you know that?) though it does have assassins, which of course are nothing like mmo "assassins." Although, stealth in mmos is not the most interesting mechanic, it's the most poorly thought out mechanic which devs can never balance in a pvp game because stealth by itself doesn't add any power to a class, so they make a class powerful, but then since it has stealth it's now overpowered... make it less powerful and you end up with a gimped class that can't kill anythign but has stealth.. the only game that got "stealth" to work in a pvp setting is eve.

As to your main question (I guess readin war vs wow thread one post below your own was too much to ask) wow is a pve game with some pvp, war is an rvr game similar to daoc. This is the reason people are looking forward to war (plus warhammer fans and people who will play any new mmo that comes out because they are tierd of all the games out right now)

i can't be bothered to research why this thread is different from any other wow vs. war threads; so since i'm assuming it's not different than the others, i'd like to reference you to one of those other posts, which is like, right under this post amazingly enough.  perhaps if you'd copy/paste your post to there, you could see if it had already been answered, or if perhaps this post you made could add to the conversation.

but i did notice about the lore... other than you not being able to drool over monster boobies -- what exactly about "the lore" is being changed?  boobie-having monsters isn't exactly what i'd want to see... especially, if they'd do it how harpies SHOULD look and those boobies were sagging about to the waist line...

so what is being corrupted in the lore?  or what is not being included at the outset that couldn't possibly be added in an update patch down the road?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Anyone who has even looked at the Warhammer site will know why WAR will be very different from WoW.  What has WoW's goals been... pve content.. with sparing pvp additions that tend to either break the game, or be totally boring.  So, basically just good pve... which is fine.

What is WAR all about.... WAR! Realm vs Realm... they are doing everything they can to try and force you to fight your enemies every step of the way... and not just NPC's that drop good loot.  AKA this game will have longevity that doesn't need constant loot patches and new zones to farm all the time.

WOW is more geared for pve and WAR is more geard for pvp. Other than that you can just about say they look like twins. I suspect WAR to be no more popular and successful as DOAC was. Quite frankly it is all just hype until people start playing WAR.

Saint, after reading your reply, I just have to say bravo.

I have to agree with your acessment of the online game, I think currently the game is just hyped by fansites and devs with alt forum names popping up on here every so often to spread so called "good news". WOW, was a straight rip off from the "TT" version of Warhammer (look and feel of worlds are different) but looking at Warhammer online I see the game moving in a WOWish direction everytime the developers post something on specific forums.

I think a lot of people will be disappointed with the game and I think a lot of people will be happy with the game but "WOW" is in a league all its' own that players that are still playing have fallen in love with.  I don't think "Warhammer online" will break them from playing the game (why break from WOW to play WOW 2.0?).

In short, one is RvR specific and balanced from a PvP perspective and the other is PvE speific balanced around PvE content (one will have cartoony graphics while the other have graphics from the GW books and art).

I like WoW and I still play to this day unlike some of the other posters here I am not a WoW hater. WoW has its failings but /shock so did DAOC. No game is perfect.

However one thing that WAR will do that will definitely separate itself from WoW is the emphasis on PvP(rvr) and the ways you can get gear.

On top of that you have a very diverse and unique WARHAMMER world.

Im sure there are more things I could say but thats the simplest answer to your question.

This is a sad thread, it's nothing more then a big WoW and WAR flame.  WoW did not rip off anybody, their franchise has been out for 13 years.  No WAR is not just a hype, 400k beta applicants usually means people actually like and want this game.  Why don't you guys do some research next time?

Some people just can't be bothered to actually do research.

And to the OP, hypothetically speaking, in the time it took for you to get on mmorpg.com, post this, and read all of these nice folks replys, you could have gone to www.warhammeronline.com , or hell even the wikipedia site and found what you where looking for, 100% most likely, so I don't know why your even trying to say you cannot be bothered..

Alright, some things I have to say to this part:

    1. Ok, you like the assassins, other people do not or prefer other classes. It does not make the game bad. Personally I hate the "poof, i vanish into thin air" stealth mechanic and I am happy it won't be in WAR.

    2. repeater crossbows; So far two of dark elf classes have been revealed (Witch Elf, Black Guard), both do not carry repeater crossbows in the TT. Still, we do have concept art of an npc with a repeater crossbow (the guy on the left) so they are in. Whether you can use them yourself will be known after they reveal the remaining two classes.

    3. Witch Elves in the TT are indeed not really rogues. But they a definitely not tanks (Where did you get that idea?). Witch elves die like flies if caught off guard, and they wear pracitacally no armor...that's not what I consider tank class material. The meele dps class slot works perfect for the witch elf: damage dealers with light armor.

I hear that WAR is WoW 2.0 and I hear that AoC is WoW 3.0. I mean WoW will have destroyable buildings in WotLK and seige weapons so AoC is basically a clone right?

The FANS of WAR like WAR because it is PvP and the concepts behind it are sound. Then you have Warhammer fans, DAOC fans. Only after all of those people do you have WoW players. Frankly, WoW PvP sucked and that is why WoW PvPers are looking for a PvP game. If they then settle on WAR would that not make WAR not WoW?

As for the people that spout clone crap, barring sarcasm, you need to go back to school and learn to research a bit better. The concepts behind WAR are very different than any other game on the market besides DAoC. In WoW you get to endgame and grind rep, then try and get the UBER weapon. In WAR you try and destroy the enemy city and along with it the enemy. If you can't see passed the very few similarities of one game to the next sorry but you aren't fit to pass judgement on anything.

Omg, every single day I come here there's a new thread about WAR vs. WoW.  Like for heaven's sake, this is a really stupid question. You are either gonna like it or not like it... If you think it's better then WoW, that's great, keep playing. If you don't then move aside and make room for people who are actually interested. But honestly, this has got to stop. And I'm sure I speak for a fair amount of people when I say that. So instead of asking other people why they think it's better, why don't you make your OWN decisions and decide that for YOURSELF!

Man I wrote that in like 30 seconds...I'm getting good at this

I was reading these replies and wondered why noone thinks about two most important to me things.

    A. WoW Syndrome - I was really hooked in WoW some time ago. Later it started be boring + I discovered new

meaning of word Greed. WS includes all ninja, sponger ( gm+officers+their friends) stories.  Still I dont know how is possible that game changes people so hard. Main reason I left WoW was a community. Just I was overfeed about this sh.. . Only thing I was looking for was fair play. Well, WoW= no fair play to me ( ofc it is a my oppinion). If you depends to decisions of other people it sux. If you working for other people it sux. If you waste your time to feed some spongers it sux (yeye, repeating). I hope in WAR more things will depends only to YOU! and it will not influents so bad to so many people    No cheating, no stealing, no more f..... spongers.

    B. Graph. But it is not so important. WAR looks so similar to WoW. I am afraid it can be boring  to see similar things in new game but we will see. Next thing, similar world can reactivate old WoWish behaviours. Starting

a new game with premade bunch of retards it is awful vision. I hope people will not carrying their experience from WoW to WAR but maybe WS is typical only to game so focused on items ( Greed).

I suppose part of You guys do not have similar experience as me ( I hope ). Maybe so many nations, cultures

cousing conflicts on European servers, maybe not. My lesson was " No, more civilisated nations are not better. They are worst bastards than people from my country (not everyone ofc but ..... )." + I am afraid I was forced to share server with some traditional KoS`es. It was not lesson about tolerance, be sure. Sometimes I was surprised there is so much of hidden hate in game. Game should be fun not some dramamaker.

I wish all best to WAR. The best means too stay really far from WoW faults

Hate to tell you this Aguy, but this game is a rip off from the WOW and I have done a lot of research on this. I'm not knocking WOW and for those of you still playing more power to you (game play was good but I didn't like the graphics).

The folks at Blizzard got shot down by "Games Workshop" when they asked them to do the IP of the game. After a good kick in the groin and such they decided to "World of Warcraft" which has made them a very big name in the MMO industry. The developers even stated in one of their interviews (and I think it was this site) that they wanted to make a game with a Warhammerish feel with a more provocative storyline (which they did).

Don't tell me how I didn't do my research because "I have!".

and while the WOW franchise is 13 years old the Warhammer is almost 30, every game is a carbon copy of something including Warhammer but I don't think they would be bold enough to admit they have ripped off certain stuff from "Tolkien" or any other genre based on the fact it hasn't reached the numbers WOW has.

As I said if you read the top post "Mr. type before I read" WOw is a rip off of the said title now you can take it how you wanna take and I'm sorry I hurt your feelings but the facts are facts and by the way the "RTS" of WOW genre (before the MMO hit) did not have anything resembling EQ or DAoC and especially UO (other than Orcs and Goblins).

WELL they both have massive huge grinds and pointless pvp so.....

  • jondifooljondifool Member UncommonPosts: 1,143

    first saying this to OP

after 400+ post here in this forum its just plain bad that you did not read 1 of the first (of 100+) treads in this forum of War vs Wow topics before making a new one. Because then you could easy have picked up why someone thinks WAR is DIFFERENT. As we are always some one that try to put some facts in besides the the tidewawe of personal opinions. But since you state that you have watched some videos my guess is that you actual also wants facts, and not just opinions.

So for your sake i am reposting this again. I just warn you that i am not mentioning WOW, wich means that you, your self, have to know how much WOW sets the MMorpg status we have now.

    ......................

Warhammer developers have said (in one of the videos) that the game is only innovative in 3 areas. For the rest they are using whats already establish as working and expected to be in MMOs, maybe in a refined and polished new way , and maybe not.

The 3 areas are Public quests (trademarked btw)

Realm vs Realm (trademarked as well)

    and Tome of knowledge.

Thats It. Thats the NEW STUFF.

too sum it up. this game looks like its going to bring development to the questing system, and the playing experience around quest. (no need to waste 30 minuttes looking for a group, anyone ?).

it does give a RvR centered play experience that should give both a story line and endgame goals. designed for both PvE and PVP from the start. And I expect it to blend thesse into a new experience for most players ,both pvE or pvP centrics.

it does aim at improve the in game information (questlog) to a level where it should not be needed to go online on a thirdparty website to get info about where to go and what to do. And be a tool for collectors and give bragging rights aswell!

For me this sounds like some natural improvements to the MMorpg status we have now. If its enough to be a NEW experience time will show, but it certainly shows alot of promise!

    ..............................................................................

    Hope this helps you!

Rip off or not, does it really matter?  So this game and WoW have their similarities, big deal.  Tell me what's wrong with WoW where key turn-offs are fixed?

Oh and btw, what fantasy game hasn't ripped of Tolkien?

  • morphomorpho Member Posts: 51

You have to understand that WoW was not originally built for PvP. WAR was built just for that... RvR. They are making a game that is more like DAoC but with way better engine, better graphics, better everything.

From what I have seen so far this game will be more exciting on a day to day basis than WoW will ever be.

Although Mythic's websites do not compare to WoW the game surely surpasses everything that WoW will ever be. End-game content in WAR > WoW. nuff said.
