Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

If you had the chance to design the ultimate MMORPG what elements from each game would you use?

I would have to say the combat and questing from WoW

Character gen from D&D online

and general world generation (towns and stuff ), leveling and crafting from SWG.

To throw in the mix for timeline and making you feel like you were achieving something I would also throw in the online game from Starfleet Commander III ( Apologies as I know it wasn't really a MMORPG.)

Heres hoping dev's read this post

Most missed oppertunity - Oooh - MIcrosoft owning the rights to Shadowrun - God that would have been a great game !!!!!!

    Crafting from pre-CU SWG.

Loot system from pre-CU SWG and Horizons (critters drop parts used in crafting, not uber gear).

    Politics and PvP from EVE.

Character customization from, well (with updated graphics) Horizons.

    Multi-classing from Horizons.

Player structures and cities from SWG.

Game size from EVE, with each planet accessible a la SWG, with security ratings per planet a la EVE (making some planets PvP paradises and others PvE heavens).

Mechs from Mechwarrior 3 or 4.

Entertaining from SWG, but Barding from UO.

    Spaceship graphics from EnB.

Vehicle combat and customization from Auto Assault.

    BODs from UO.

    Kung Fu moves from 9Dragons.

Magic from...uh...OK, I dunno 'cause I haven't had much luck playing mage's except in UO, but I kinda like what I'm seeing in AoC.

Combat from...well, I prefer the RPG style of combat over twitch, but I'm gonna give TR and AoC a try...so jury's still out on this one.

Pets and taming from SWG with some elements from UO incorporated.

    Did I forget anything?

Oh, did I mention crafting from pre-CU SWG?

I'd make mine based as a Sci-fi based MMO:

AoC engine utilising Dx 10 (after all, this is an evolution of AO's engine).  Graphical standards equal to VG or AoC, but not using VG's engine.

VG / AoC combat system (more interactive / reactive than WoW, but wow's combat aint too bad a start).

VG character creation (though not a necessity to go that far).

Volume of quests and progression of quests equal to WoW.

Depth of lore equal to WoW's standards but not necessarily the same genre.  Anyone who read the 18 chapter starting introduction for Anarchy Online will know what i mean.

World/s the size of VG.  The ability to go to another continent and continue leveling there for a change of scenery / types of lore.

Auction system (either WoW or VG, I see benefits in both).

Anarchy Onlines mission terminal / mission generator system featuring instance doors which are locked until you are given access to them.

Lush looking and interactive instances equal to DDO standards.

Anarchy Onlines idea regarding armour.  Obtaining base pieces and upgrading them as you level or obtain the upgrades.

VG's lush looking armour and weapons.

Land vehicles and housing of SWG.

EQ2 / VG crafting (though not as much as a grind as VG crafting has).

VG Diplomacy (great idea, needs serious work).

Casual friend environment of WoW - (not necessarily the same genre as WoW but Im sure you understand how playable WoW is).

Group based specific encounters / quest chains.

A good raid system to keep the hardcores happy (take your pick from whichever game you like).

Space travel and music of Eve.  Seemless ground to space takeoff.

Does it have to be from MMOGs? Because that doesn't give me enough parts to make my FrakenMMO.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

Well, feel free.  I used a single-player game in my list.  :-)

Sure - I used a multi player space fight game in my list

    right were to start...

FFXI: For the cutscenes and in depth storylines also elements of the grouping and diversty of magic, items ect and for the In game music

WoW: For the aspects of pvp and fast paced action gameplay also the battlegrounds

RF: for the graphics not to demanding yet nice, Just take water effects out of Vangaurd also for the in game music i find it very nice =D

Now this may seem very strange and you may have not heard of this MMO.

Endless-online: not for the graphics or gameplay, or any combat or story lines becuase well there is non its a 2-D hack and slash clutter but the community is very well welcoming, The reason i chose this was becuase the players make soemthing out of the community with Events, and other stuff wich the people make up and the admins are on the game 24/7

Matrix online: Just becuase jumping of buildings is fun =D

EVE: Now wouldent it be great to not be comfined to just one planet? to be able to jump onto a space ship and explore the open reeches of space? maybe control and huge ship wich you can explore inside as well and talk to other people inside who are maybe taking a lift or other stuff.. i no thats not part of it but i just mentiond eve becuase of its space theme =D

    In that case, my FrankenMMOG:

Setting: Near Future Dystopian, like Children of Men, not the same plot though nor exact same setting.

Graphic style and General Movement Options: Much like MGS4, even tough it isn't out yet.

Combat: Ranged, stop and pop like Gears of War, except faster movement while aiming, depending on the size of the gun.  Melee, free roaming twitch like Devil May Cry, just not as flashy and more realistic.

Crafting: uses the same principles as GMod, but not the tool set, that would be cleaned up to fit the game and make all tools, mechanics and effects connected to ingame items.

Character Creation: like Age of Conan, even though it isn't out yet, but with a fat and muscle slider for more body options.

PvP: like BF2, it uses objectives which are always up unless completed, but once you capture something you can own it, this lets people fight for land and resources to help out their factions. And gain and reinforce territories.

Housing: like UO, SWG or AO

Loot: like SWG or Ryzom, just resources used to make items

Inventory: like Resident Evil 4, more realistically limited by space

    Auctions: like WoW

Vehicles and Customization: Auto Assault, with vehicle inventories.

Diplomacy: like KOTOR but with more options and a tone meter.

Town Building: like SWG, or even Spore lol

Pet System: Dead to Rights, pets can do more than attack, like retrieve things.

Skill System: like Bioshock you just get new skills and put them in your skill inventory. But with skill trees like WoW, for every single skill has its own tree.

That is the gist, I am probably missing some piece though.

    rubies of evantide-
character customization-biggest thing i hate of all the new and free games is such low ammt of classes, being like 1 million other people, and being forced a certain build

    daoc-
siege/rvr(needs altered but still far and away the best). also huge ammount of classes compared to the other big players, 45+ compared to ~10

    legend of mir-
loot drops! just felt like putting this in there, when you got a big money drop it was awesome, exploded like a pinata

    swg-
resource gathering/crafting/non-combat oriented classes/city building(should take more work than swg did though)

    lineage-
politics(dont know about lineage 2 didnt last past beta)

    CoH-
superjump! dont know how it fits in, but i love me some superjump. also customization is the best ive seen easy.

    albatross 18-
dont care what the game is, they should have side games like a round of golf, poker, even arcades built in!

I would love to see a Mechwarrior/heavy gear MMO. You have the option of choosing either a MECH or a GEAR(I think thats what their called in heavy gear). Also having access to jump out your mech/gear and go into cities and towns (your not gonna go in town to buy something with a 1000ton mech are ya?) So itll be a mix between a mechwarrior and battlefield type of MMO. If your running around as a human you should have the option to go into jets or tanks or have hand held weapons or jetpacks to help.

IF THAT ISNT A BADASS MMO I DON"T KNOW WHAT IS.

Character gen from D&D online  hell yeah
and general world generation (towns and stuff ), leveling and crafting from SWG.  oh this aspect of SWG rocks by far,  pre or post NGE its the best world generation in the market today.

crafting:  again SWG was great,  you had to work hard to make almost anything,  it supported macro's quite well,  was simple enough to pick up but very hard to master (different grades of metal and stuff) and the sheer number of items and the usefulness made it all worthwhile (ships ftw)

    MMO wish list:

    -Solid non level based game

It would be cool if there were quests having players as their targets.

    Example:

    2 factions.

Player X (faction A) takes a quest (against faction B) in some area that will take some time (kill *** mobs or reach all waypoints). Quest has a time limit (so the player is forced to start doing it at once).

Game creates another quest for faction B members: prevent player X from reaching the goal.

If anyone takes it, it creates quest for action A members: help player X and protect him from faction B members for some amount of time. The more faction B members has taken the previous quest - the higher the reward.

    my 2 cents.

    Combat = CoH (no autoattack!)

    Character Creation = CoH

Instancing = something like FFXI, only for ALL singular, quest-related mobs

PvP = DAoC, only with more interesting rewards

Class system = like CoH, maybe a little more flexible

Housing = I could not care less

    Crafting = WoW

    Pets = UO

Effects = customizable like in Freedom Force

World design = EQ1 or  WoW (depending on your tolerance for zones)

Writing (quests, dialog) = old EQ or WoW

    Raiding = I don't care

Endgame = ideally, none -- final "retirement" quest resulting in bonuses for a new character

Grouping tools and character search = CoH

    Auction system = WoW

Giant monster attacks, invasions = CoH

Shared bank slots = EQ, EQ2

there will never be a ultimate rpg, as great as wow is it still has many shortcomings. and there are still many who rag on about it endlessly.  i would make an mmo that is designed around user driven content, games like second life but done properly with swords, pirates and ninjas.

a good example would be eve, lineage2, daoc, swg etc that rely heavily on player driven actions rather than rely on the devs for handouts.  ofcourse they would just make it really difficult to produce items which would just replace one type of grind for another.   so it comes down to how long they want to make me grind.  they make me grind because they want my money (im ok with that, but its time i value not money), but i have better things to do with my time.  so i'll just avoid mmo's until theres something that suits me

Aside from AI, & graphics 90% of what you'd need  to make the ultimate MMO already exists with the four masters of this genre. The first publisher to take the key elements of each and combine them will have a pot of gold on His/Her hands.

    1) UO

    2) EQI

    3) AC

    4) DAOC.

What he said, but I'd take Eve's skill-based real-time training as well, I don't have 168 hours a week to play games and this is one of the things I like most actually
