A Vanguard group creating site. REALLY want feedback guys.

Hi,

I am thinking of setting up a VG site for people who like myself, get frustrated from not being able to find a group to play with and feel they are missing out on lots of the good areas in vanguard.

My opinion is that, most MMO’s have areas that people ‘grind’ in to gain levels and miss out on lots of content and places, as they favour efficient xp gaining as opposed to exploring.  Whilst I, like everyone else want to gain good XP, I feel there are so many places that I will miss out on seeing because there aren’t good quests for the area or the xp is not as great as other places.

My idea, is to set up a website purely for easily arranging times and places that groups can arrange to meet and go to.  As an example, today I was travelling past Hilsbury Manor in Shoreline Ruins and the place looks amazing, but I wouldn’t be able to solo for another 10 levels or so and it’s just not as funs without a group and getting at least some good xp.  Were this site to exist,  I could log onto the forum and post – Hilsbury Manor- Thestra Explore Hunt- Friday 8pm GMT.  We could then get a group set-up ready and meet up to go and explore.

I may be the only one who thinks this, but if there were one such site I would find it a bit of a god send.

I may be wrong however, and find that people are pretty much mainly interested in efficiently grinding levels and not want to spend three or four hours exploring a place for ½ or ¾ the xp they could get somewhere else.

What are your thoughts people?  Would this benefit anybody?  If I created it would people be interested in signing up and getting together?

Would really appreciate any and all constructive feedback here.

Thanks,

Nopex –Halgarad.

Thats a really interesting idea friend. I think if you added a few forums where people could add places of interest and the likes it could be a great idea. Myself i would deffinately use it.

Well, your web site will be providing a similar service that most guild's web sites do...that is, providing a forum for people to get together and plan activities in advance.  As any guild leader will tell you, getting the membership to stop gaming for even 10 minutes a day to read the guild forums is sometimes impossible.

So the real challenge is ....how will you spread the word and get people to come to your site.(a problem many a webmaster has pondered I'm sure).  Can't really do it here..... the number of VG players on these forums is small compared to the total playerbase.... and of course, they are scattered across four servers.

Its possible that once you get the ball rolling, maybe hold events at a regular time/date every week that people will start to come and spread the word for you.

I don't know, in my world, I already have a lot of websites to sort through every day.....last thing I need is another one.

I recall in DAOC there was a guy who ran a weekly pick-up group Dragon raid....players from all sorts of different guilds would gather together (only time they did, btw, this was on a FFA PVP server) every Sunday afternoon and people would just show up and join in.  Maybe you could get a similar weekly adventure set up and rolling....

The point regarding guilds is a valid one and one which I had thought about.

Guilds only have a certain size however.  My guild has over 300 members, but you always find only a certain amount of them actually are particularly active and not alts.  For that reason you also generally find people within a decent level range to you, who want to explore the same places as you do aren't around.

Also, a lot of people dont want to guild and choose to either play solo or find a group.  This would be a facility to aid in arranging these things out in advamce

The fact is that there is a huge % of players who are not guild members in every MMO and current LFG systems don't allow for planning in advance.

As for an extra website, I personally go through about 10 per day, but I enjoy each of them as they have their function.  I woudn't find an extra one (if it were as useful) a chore.

great idea, the only thing is getting people to use it. It only works if a lot of people use it.  If you dont get that many people right away, no one will use it. Thats my only concern

I think your idea is a good one.

I think, if you would like to see an extreme version of "leveling pigeonhole syndrome" you almost owe it to yourself to play around i FFXI for a month or three.  It is almost comical to see, there are a zillion zones in that game and people are so geared into the most efficient way to exp- chain that 80% of the zones do not get ANY traffic!

for someone like yourself who sounds like you are interested in game dynamics and such it would be worth it.

Ok, the first time I saw your thread, I had thought "You know, that's what guilds are for... people to make friends and group up with regularly..." But now that I think about it, I would fully support this if done right.

I think that the key is going to be keeping it simple and user friendly, yet still providing everything that we, the community, need in a group schedule/organizing site.

So, just quick little -suggestions- for how I think it could be done:

-Keep it simple.... a Calendar showing the current month and the next month... Thats it, just a calendar, with a seperate forum.

-Players can go to the site, sign up on it with their Char name(s) and servers, and maybe a little profile showing char level, guild, gear, etc.... Or simply find a way to link it to the profiles on the VGplayers website.

-Players can click on any day on the calendar, and it will list any events/groups that have been scheduled by players for that day, or they can add their own.

-They'll simply label it with what it is (dungeon, zone, specific quest, simply 'EXP'), maybe a short description, and the time.

-Then, just make it so that when players either sign up for a group or create one, rate themselves on a scale of 1 to 5, to show the likeliness that they will actually show up... It always sucks signing up for a raid with 20 other people and only like 8 actually show up. So, a 5 means, "I've written it in schedule, made a note, got it off work, I will be there no matter what". A 1 would mean, "I'd like to, but I'll only come if I'm not busy." Just to give players an idea of how long to wait for others...

-Finally, make sort of an Ebay reputation system... After grouping, players can rate the other players that they grouped with, again, scale of 1 to 5. Based on quality of the player, punctuality, maturity, whatever... 1 to 5. This way, players can see just what they will be dealing with when setting up a group, or, if there are too many sign ups for a particular group or raid, organizers will have the option of picking and choosing who they want.

So, again - Players register on the site with their Main Char's name and server. Look at the calendar, click on the day they want, see if there is a group for what they want, then click 'Sign Up'. The group's creator can set it to an open group, where anybody can just automatically join, or, make it so that they have to Accept the player into the group. The group is set up, they go and have their fun, and afterwards can log back onto the site and rate each other. End.

Ok guys.  First of all thanks for the feedback.  It’s very much appreciated and it’s nice to hear people feel this would work.  The only factor I could see contributing to it NOT working, would be a lack of people using it.  I believe that if I can get enough people on board at the beginning who believe in the idea, we can spread word together and make the game even better than it is already for all of us.

The forums would be split up in the following format:

    Halgar Server:

    Group Arrangement:

    Levels  2–10

    Levels  11-20

    Levels  21-30

    Levels  31-40

    Levels  41-50

     Seradon Server

    Levels 2-10

    Etc…

Each forum would have class discussion and things like that if people wanted them.

There would be a calendar to the website on the very front page on which you can click the month and a big calendar will open up showing all events in the month on each day.  Anybody can add an event and in the event description, and give a link to the thread page for people to go to and add their info.

I had considered an ebay feedback option and I’m glad someone else mentioned it.  It is however, difficult to implement into what I had in mind, so my thoughts are that for each server there would be a forum where people can be reported to admin for various offences.  To prevent a single person complaining about somebody and causing a fuss, three different people involved in the group would have to register the same complaint together.  If this happened, at admin discretion the player would be banned from the site.

Everyone would be able to have their own profiles with class info / avatars and all the usual stuff.  There would also be a private messaging system in place for you to send messages to people who have posted on your threads so you can converse privately.  When you receive a PM you are notified by email so you don’t miss it.

What do you reckon guys?  If I go ahead, buy the webspace and get the site sorted (it would take about two days MAX) would you help spread the word and populate it?
