alan wake is coming out soon? It's from the guys that did the Max Payne games, which are some of the best story-based FPS games ever made. I've been waiting for Alan Wake but, theres been like no info on it at all.
But yea, tuns of games coming out to keep me busy as well. Not to mention AoC in late march.
alan wake... sometime 2008. I was just being hopeful that it might be the first half of 2008... lol
They won't fix that because "that" is not a problem war has. That's actually how it is designed to be daoc'ish combat, slower death rate than wow's one shot kill fest. I best the combat will be much more fast paced once people know whatthey are doing.
Q2: April, May, June... How did you manage to get september Fion? Unless I missed somethign where they said q2-q3.
Also, they started workign on war in middle of 2005, so middle of 2008 (q2) is actually 3 years How long has aoc been in development and how many times has it been pushed back? This is war's secodn push back ( totalling 6 months of push back, from q1 07 to q2 08) Since you don't seem to find any problems with aoc being pushed back and taking some 5 years, but the sky is falling when the same situation happens with mythic
PS: It's funny, when ea bought mythic everyone was screaming doom and that ea will push war out regardless of the state the game is in and it will flop like vanguard. Now war is pushed back for the second time, it appears EA is willing to give mythic more time (and money) to make war a better game and not push it out of the door, which is the opposite of what people claimed EA would do. Yet people still complain? =p
I can't say I am happy about the push back because at this point I would play and pay for whatever they put out. I do think this will cripple sales a bit though if they release in the later half of Q2 or Q3. At that point people are getting ready for summer, spring cleaning, outdoor activities, etc. They are not wanting to stay couped up in the house like they did for the past 4 months. In the long run though putting out a polished game will probably bring in a lot more people.
BTW Fion AoC will be out in Q4 of this year, unless they release the game early in which case its rally cry will be "Vangaurd!"
I absolutely have no problems with the push back as long as the finished product is as good as I think it will be. If I'm paying them to play their game, I want nothing but their best effort. If WAR was f2p/f2b, then I'd be a little upset as I'd rather play while they polish rather than wait.

Lol? How far did you get in WoW, level 5?
i actually got up to level 10 before i wanted to gouge my eyes out and still to this day can't believe people play that crap.
i guess what they say is true ... WoW caters to the lowest common denominator.
Restructuring seemed to have more to do with UO's team (them being moved to Mythic's place) and doesn't seem to have to do much with mythic itself ( sure they did let some people go, but they were up to 200 or slightly less, so it's not like god & heroes firing half of their team lol)
Oh, well, we'll see how things go (and I'd agree with you, if they don't narrow release date by the time we are closign on q2 it would likely be delayed again)
PS: I am pretty sure aoc has been pushed back more than twice, though I don't follow it that closely.
And I got pretty far in wow Not sure what it has to do with anything though, wow is still a one shot fest (mostly due to gear imbalance) sure it may not technically be one shot, but when a fire mage presses 3 buttons and you die in under 4 seconds what's the difference? =p
Im still remember when AoC was delayed and I suggested "ey perhaps war can be delayed too..." and some "forum mates" were a bit "rude" trying to make me understand that I was wrong and what I was saying couldn't happen ummm... every game can be delayed, what devs will say? that surely you can have it in 3 months, means, that you will have to wait one or two years... Im not an "expert" in all this things but, from my experience, this happens if this will make WaR a better game, I preffer to wait before (like atari did with nwn2) get an unfinished game.
Some reason i got feel tis game wont come never. Even its come, its looks outdate then
i think you're reading too much into this. this isnt like adventurine with Darkfall this is two big companies. this game will come out its just suffering a bit of setbacks.
Well you would not find me as one of the people who were rude, I expected the delay long ago. It seems to be the trend of current MMO developers is to set dates for things but push them back because they can not be met. I am satisfied with the push back though because it will allow for more time to polish the game, computer prices to go down, and people to get to know one another before launch.

I live in Phoenix (Hell for short) summer is indoors time winter is out doors time ths is a perfect time to release this game so i can hibernate in the cold air conditioning.
Lemme quote something I found on a message board at bluesnews.com
" What was unimpressive about WAR beta? Besides the fact that they've shut it down for 2 months to 'work on things that concern the beta-testers.' Lol.
But every WoW player who wishes the game had good PvP is looking at WAR as the second coming. So, what didn't you like about the beta? A better question is: "What is impressive about the WAR beta?"
Honestly, I expected something new/different/better than WoW and there isn't much. In some ways the graphics are marginally better and in others it is definitely not. The art is arguably worse than WoW's, but WoW has some amazing artwork. The gameplay is very DAoC'ish (yes, I know the devs made DAoC), nothing innovative at all.
So I guess being that WAR will be released 4+ years after WoW, I expected them to do SOMETHING much better than WoW and honestly they haven't. I will probably play WAR for a while because the chars/quests/spells/etc are different, but I doubt I'll play it for 2 years like I did for WoW.
I PVP'd a bit in WAR, too. It was _definitely_ much more boring than WoW. Slower, there was less to do, etc...
All that being said, I understand it is beta and I really do hope the final game is better than the beta version I've played as I respect Mythic for what they did with DAoC and I want them to succeed (for their sake and mine)."
If this delay means they'll fix this, then wonderful. IMHO Mark Jacobs was nuts to promise the next big MMOG in 2 years time. Considering they still haven't given a difinitive date, just another quarter, I don't expect this date to stick either. Fall 08 anyone?
No offense, but that sounds like it was written either by a complete moron or someone that just didn't like the game.
I've heard more constructive and better worded reviews from the conventions than that.
Utter B.S. but thanks for posting your usual Fion.
Also what you wrote here:
"Oh and nice flamebating Distaste. I'm not about to fall for it however. I'm confident in AoC releasing in march. It's the end of a 6 month delay, is a solid date instead of a wide window, and Funcoms Q3 report suggests AoC is on time and all changes proposed for the delay are all on schedule."
You do realize that the date before the delay was "October 30th" not some window. They said it in numerous videos and tons of times on their forums, as little as a week before they announced the delay.

In my experience a large majority of the aoc fanbase are well known for their double standards, especially in regards to competing titles like WAR. If you are looking for logical, intelligent, unbiased input that doesn't take 'sides' into consideration in their posting, you are definitely looking in the wrong place. Its the single biggest reason that I have been so critical of their community.
As for the topic, its unfortunate for those that were going crazy waiting. But it does give us a better quality product and also, more time to try out other games. Though I largely suspect several of those other games will be delayed as well, only they might wait till the last minute to let anyone know.
I don´t think Paul Barnett is an idiot. I think he´s dedicated . You don´t leave your kids for two years to blather about Vaporware. Instead of bringing his kids to bed, he´s bringing me to bed. I always watch one of the many videos I have of the WAR-Staff before I go to sleep.
I feel sad about the pushback. But I am confident it will be for the good of the game.
I have never seen a more transparent company than EA-Mythic. Or do you remember a game with a more open and community-friendly development ?
Remember a few months back, when they invited all the guys from the mmo/fan sites and showed them (and everybody) a half finished product ? Laughing about the bugs with their guests.
You don´t do that without the confidence that you haven´t crap at hand.
The new newsletter and all I have seen (and played for 15 minutes) of the game convinces me further, that this will probably not only be the game of 2008, but perhaps one of the best pieces of gaming software in history. I predict it´s a classic in the making and will be a smash hit for many years.

I agree with you on this, I never really expected it to be out for Q1 always thought Q3 maybe 4 was far more feesable.

Lol? How far did you get in WoW, level 5?
the fact that they couldn't even nail down a month in the 2nd Q for possible release tells me that the 2nd Q target is iffy.
I wouldnt be surprised if it got pushed back until 2010

Kudos to the team. Even now.
