    SHADOW WARRIORS LOOK SWEET!!!!!!!!

  • SpiritofGameSpiritofGame Member UncommonPosts: 1,332

    Shadow Warrior!

    Wow, this is going to be a tough choice.

    Oftentimes I like the ranged archer classes and using the bow, but I also tend to feel that when things get up close and personal -- which they always do at some point -- the archer gets eaten up.  That seems to go along with the territory.

    Course, that is a problem inherent to all ranged classes.

    Still, a Shadow Warrior with the melee capabilities, as Paul says in the video, might have a better balance and feel to it.  I suppose it all depends on how strong or weak those melee abilities prove to be in actual RvR combat and how strong or weak the bow abilities will be.

    I suppose another concern is whether the "shoot and scoot" primary bow-spec Shadow Warrior really has some skill-support ability to "scoot."

    In other words, if shoot-and-scoot just means you get powerful bow abilities but "running away from danger" pretty much means just running away, this is not a skill-supported ability.  If, on the other hand, a Shadow Warrior gets something like (for example):

    Escape Skill 1 ... +50% evasion +50% runspeed buff, 30-secs duration, 5-min reuse timer

    Then, that would be a skill-supported "scoot" (escape) ability.

    On the other hand, if a melee-spec Shadow Warrior can use his bow effectively and stand toe-to-toe with other Light Melee classes, then this might be considered to be overpowered (and therefore very nerf-able) leading to a Shadow Warrior with better-than-average bow skills and below-average melee skills ... which is really not such a great hybrid after all.

    ~~~
    Course, I guess this is what beta testing determines.
    Okay, good, I will volunteer to test the Shadow Warrior class!
    As if....
    I thought the behind the scenes look at the music of WAR in the newsletter was pretty great. What did everyone else think?
    ah but spirit you forgot an important factor. the HUMAN skill factor. to your shoot in scoot factor the amount of scooting also depends on the skill of the archer. if the archer uses to terrain and depth of the terrain to their advantage then they might not need to scoot. same for the melee side of it, but i think the human skill factor makes up for a large majority of how well one class might play over the other.
    Also, from the newsletter, this little snippit:
    When Nagarythe was riven by civil war, most of the Elves there sided with the Witch King, becoming Dark Elves. Those faithful to the Phoenix King swore to fight Malekith and his treacherous forces. These ill-fated Elves became the Shadow Warriors – the darkest, most sinister and brutal of all the High Elves.
    Darkest, most sinister and brutal of all the High Elves?!
    I think I'm in love!
    shadow warriors are definitely sweet, but if the they have a white lion career, this will be the first game that I play melee instead of ranged as my main.
    Escape Skill 1 ... +50% evasion +50% runspeed buff, 30-secs duration, 5-min reuse timer...75% reduction with ranged damage or inability to fire on the run. Then it will be a "true" escape ability and not a method to kite every career in the game
    I'm was really liking the orchestrated music bit in there, that really got my attention for this newsletter.
    Can't wait til next month for the new DE career, crosses fingers for Corsairs or Shades.
    Is it me?...or are there like 6 classes that I really want to play. IM going to have a real tough time.
    eh, there ok, ofcourse im not going order, im going destruction, iv always been a fan of chaos and orks, prob gonna be a marauder.
    well the nice thing about war is that they may have only 4 base class's (tank,melee dps,Ranged dps,Healer) but they all go about things differently depending on the race.
    For example the High elves Swordmaster thing, while its about that melee dps it also has a balance system, for if you stay in the same spot youl gain more balance thus be able to do more dmg and skills. Now say for a Marauder you get a arm you can mutate into certain things to do certain skills.
    Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion,I gain strength, through strength,I gain power,through power,I gain victory,through victory,my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.
    You know I'm going to pay for this, and I REALLY hate doing it but....
    Shadow Elves=WoW Huntards wet dream. A ranged hunter that can viably melee. Of all the classes released, this one feels like the most disappointing. Or, possibly, the most likely to either be A) a complete gimp or B) ridiculously OPed
  • evil13evil13 Member CommonPosts: 359
     Wow's hunters can already melee just fine =p raprot strike crits for 1k+
     This isn't all that different from any archer in daoc, they could all melee but still would use bow, for the most part. Besides, engineers can melee a bit as well, can they not? ;)
    You know...
    every time I think this game has reached a peak...BOOM!!!!! They release a new profession and it just takes things to a whole new level.
    I don't play "good" faction  characters, however this Shadow Dude is spectacular! I am very tempted to go this route because I love "support by fire" professions and they got that whole Rogue Ninja thing going on. I have determined, I will not choose a race until I see all the Races and Professions. They just keep out doing themselves.
    Who must I Assassinate to get into Beta?....I won't rule out the performance of some sexual act. If it gets me into BETA, I would sell my first born!
    I know, I know ... but, sheesh, they keep releasing totally COOL classes.
    Witch Hunter?!  ZOMFG!  How can you NOT want to play one of those?!
    Shadow Warrior?!  Yikes, yet another cool class!
    Bright Wizard!  Black Guard!  Witch Elf!  Warrior Priest!  Knight of the Blazing Sun!  Squig Herder!  Hammerer!  Marauder!
    ~~~

    I tell you, if you are looking for an unpopular class, it's gonna be hard to find one!

    Awesome.

    Can't wait to hear about the last ones.

  • TyfreakyTyfreaky Member Posts: 239

    I just hope that they are actually going to have While Lions as a player class...

    Elves with lion fur cloaks, and giant axes... can you say pimp?

    Though Shadow Warrios seem like the way to go if you like ranged combat.

  • terrantterrant Member Posts: 1,683

    Well let's see..so far the mechanic has been that each race has a tanker, a nuker, a melee dps, and a healer/support

    So far we have:

    Swordmaster: Tank with a strong dps focus (instead of armor they rely on weapon skill as defense)

    Archmage: Support/heal/nuke (I suspect these guys aren't gonna be as all-out dps as, say, Empire Bright Wizards)

    Shadow Elf: Ranged Nuke/Melee DPS

    Which leaves....MEH?

    Is it me, or are the HEs striking anyone else as a bowl ful o' hybrids?

    All the same though, melee DPS of some sort seems most likely. Or a pet class (since, to my knowedge, there isn't really one amongst the armies of Order yet. Unless you count turrets)

    According to the video with Paul, Shadow Warriors won't be viable for melee DPS. They will have some poking abilities, but not that much.

    I reckon the melee DPS capabilities will be about the same as the WoW hunter. Enough to survive, but no more.

    Did we watch the same video? He caid it was viable for a Shadow to soften the enemy up at range, then whittle them down with melee weapons. While it's up to interpretation whether soften means "weaken a little" or "nearly kill", it seems to me they want this character to viably melee.

    Now please, love of God, don't give Shadows dual scimitars and a big friggin cat, or I swear I'm going over to Conan.

    The shadow warrior does look pretty amazing.  Kudos to EA and Mythic for the podcasts, newsletters, and general feedback of WAR.  This has really helped hype the anticipation of the game.  I've never been a fan of elves, but I may make an exception now:P

    I agree. Nice to see a composer that is really striving to make the music unique to each race, seems very well done thus far. Music can add a lot of atmosphere to a game.

    But, I'm one of those guys that puts the music in MMORPGs on loop... if it's good.

    Honestly I hope they pull this off with Shadow Warriors - the class sounds very much like the good ol' Albion Scout from the original DAOC (no expansions) they were fun in RvR plinking people in 2 shots but levelling them was a nightmare aside from no group wanting you. I had one to lvl 42 in original client and dreaded loging into him. WHEN (not if) my shots missed that enraged critter / Hib/Mid would hand my ass to me regardless of how badly I hurt him or how much life I had.

    FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
