Why did all the ratings go down?

Everquest 2 used to be like 8.4 now it's 7.4. and all the other games dropped by one pint of rating. Hellgate London is 9.2 all of a sudden. Is someone messing with the ratings?

Aye - seems quite odd - unless they be tinkering with a new rating system?

As for HELLGATE being 9.x, its only because it has 25 comments as of now - and thus is an unrealistic figure (and probably tainted by the devs/associates/etc).

Also, as I recall every game listed had a rating of  > 9. Which made the ratings themselves meaningless. Least now there is some depth to the system ...someones got to be on the bottem

Actually, the ratings all are naturally low and mediocre.  They are normally about 4.0-6.5 in range...which is pretty boring.  If you read the FAQ above you can see how we curve them in a positive only fashion.

Because of this curve, when a game comes along that earns a naturally high score (which is common when a new game like Hellgate comes out) it reduces the curve multiplier and all games go down in score...however they are still all higher than they would be without the curve...even the worst rated game gets some minor gain from our curve.

Because these new games (TR and HGL) are new and have few votes...a small surge of good or bad votes can cause the whole list to fluctuate.  Once they get more votes everything will stabilize
