From Mattlow @ Warcry http://aoc.warcry.com/news/view/78561

For those of you who can't get enough Conan, or thought that there would never be another movie after Arnold. Great news, a new Conan movie has been announced, with the promise that this movie will be much closer to Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian, than Arnold's movies.

You can see the news at  Coming Soon.net.

I wonder who will play Conan??

You're kidding right? Gerard's acting style is him trying to expel his own teeth out with the force of his own hammyness. I kinda agree with the other guy who chose The Rock, he was great in the Scorpion King, and who cares if he doesn't have an accent? I'm pretty sure Ancient Greece didn't have Scottish men either right?

    Bollocks!

Hmmm all the maps of Hyborea put Cimmeria in the location of the British Isles, and due north of Aquilonia (France). Also, REH, himself a Celtic enthusiast, considered his Cimmerians to be ancestral to the "Black Irish". Note also that Conan is an Irish name, and Conan swears by Irish deities.

What about 'Triple H' guy? or Russel Crowe if he was beefed up a bit ? or Vin Diesel? Eric Bana? Brian Thompson?

I utterly agree with you. Butler was so florid and camp, I thought it was a Graham Norton skit.

Only one man could play Conan:

    Sir Donald Sinden!

Triple H might be good, it's just whether they want an accented buff guy or not, I agree with Crowe, a little more muscley and he good do it probably. Vin Diesel? never, I may not like Conan, but I don't hate him THAT much to put Diesel in the roll. He needs to make a new Chronicles of Riddick anyways. Not sure about Eric Bana or Thompson, but ya good ideas for him.

    Bollocks!

Yeah, it's kinda old news. There's been work being done on another Conan for a while.  They had the  Wachowski brothers working on it, but they ended up leaving/dropping the project. The wanted Triple H as Conan's son, with Arnold reprising the role. Last I heard Triple H turned it down. It was going to be King Conan or something, but I think that version/script was dropped.  WB had the rights, but they dropped it and Millennium Films picked it up. If all goes as planned, filming starts in the Spring.

I hope they take a new guy, and put all those millions of dollars into production instead.

Just as they did with Wolverine for X-men.

I say let Vladimir Kulich play Conan, he would be perfect! (He played the chieftain Buliwyf in The 13th Warrior, for those who dont know who he is)

    No Wrestlers, please!

Holy crap I think that would be a winner. He played a great Nordic in that movie, (I never remembered his name, or thinking about him in general). The problem would be though, that if they did pick him for this you'll get those creepy Conan fanboys coming out and making millions of blogs about his accent doesn't match the Conan from the book. You the little things that most normal people wouldn't mind or perhaps like even better than a Irish or Scottish accent, but to those bookboys it's like all hell has opened up.

    Bollocks!

    He certainly has the look.

I read somewhere that the actor for Conan will be semi-unknown.

I'm happy about this, because The Rock or Vin Diesel would kill this movie. They may be buff and famous, but they are terrible actors.

Ya but that can pose huuuge problems. I mean it worked really well for X-men, but trying that it's a real hit or miss thing, and it's a usual miss. I mean take (and not trying to bash on the film) 300 for example. The effects were stunning and very entertaining I admit, but the acting should have been a lot better. Butler was just a little too "colorful" with his acting and it can annoy the hell out of you once you realize it.

    Bollocks!

I can stand The Rock, but Diesel is just a big no no, especially for Conan.

How do you figure out what kind of accent someone has by reading a book.  I'd think it was all in your head and no 2 readers of the same book would imagine the same accent, tone of speech and so on and so forth.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Ralf Moeler was scheduled to play conan inan earlier earmarking of the Conan films for a remake, set around king of the isles period with a younger actor such as the rock playing his son. he is not a fantastic actor, but he isn't bad, and conan isn't exactly florid in his descriptive powers nor well versed in  grammar as long as he doesn't kill any dialogue and can swing the sword (which he can, check out pathfinder) he will be fine.

saying that who gives a monkeys who plays conan as long as the film is good :)

I hope who ever plays conan is someone totaly new to the movie industry but also got talent and looks like conan supposed to look like.  I seriously hope its not Vin Diesel or The Rock.

And I thought Arnold played a good conan mostly because he looked the part and he didnt have many lines.

Now all we need is a Action Adventure game for Red Sonja and a new movie for her.
