Yeah, I admit it. I may have misjudged Warhammer in my quick original disappointment that they chose not to do 40K but the earlier period. Thanks to DuraheLL's compilation of videos (see 1st Sticky), I'm gonna change my mind and start anticipating this game. Nothing like a Crazy Brit either to help sort me out.
One of the best marketing tactics those dudes at EA/Mythic have going for them on this one is Paul Barnett. The other seems to be a really great RvR system, combined with some really interesting concepts for questing. Yeah, time for me to head over to the official website and register. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa. Thanx again, DuraheLL and Paul Barnett for adjusting my viewpoint!

He may be a nice guy and all but he overhypes everything like peter molyneux, explains all these crazy and kool sound stuff and then you see it in game and it's not so good.
Maybe so, and I take ALL hype with about a pound of salt, but it sure sounds a lot funnier from a Brit than a Frenchman.
I admit I was ignoring WAR altogether until seeing those videos, in favor of AoC. However, AoC has the problem for me of being a "fast action" game; i.e., a lot of clicking and hand-eye coordination, at which I suck even worse than standard RPG combat. It's also more tiring, as I'm finding out with TR. I just can't play as long as I like because I literally get tired (I'm old, sorry). I've always preferred the more traditional RPG style of combat based more on my character's skillset than my own extremely limited physical ability. So the WAR combat system appeals more. The RvR, building on the foundation of DAoC by the same studio, also appeals very much to me as PvP with Purpose.
If the crafting is even fair (I've accepted that I'll probably never again, in my lifetime, see the great crafting of pre-CU SWG), then this game might just be the one for me after all. I'm glad I kept a somewhat open mind about the whole thing and finally checked out those videos.

I have to agree, Paul is a great pumper, but he is getting old.
Paul loves what he's doing. He has alot of passion for the game. If people don't like it then it's their problems, not his.
I think he's the greatest person behind a game ever. He really gives Mythic a face unlike any other company

I thought the 'lot of clicking' bit of AoC was going away. I know at GenCon the devs said that the beta testers had not been impressed with the combat system (it did not work as intended) and it was being pretty much reworked from the ground up. Of course, he could be wrong given that he is not one of the designers but rather is in marketing.
I dont mind the hype. Basically its what brings investments and money. Its all a part of the business.
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Most have seen all the podcasts and videos etc. etc.
but on the Warhammer site Paul has a video blog, some really, really good stuff on there.
keep in mind though a 40k is in the works for a mmo, i forget who grabed the licenses but if its anything like Battlefield 2142 and Planetside mixed in with a 40k universe, then hell yes.
The only thing that could lure me from a Warhammer 40K MMO would be a Bioware Star Wars MMO.
We might be facing duel of the actually decent Sci-Fi MMOs in the near future
Now you made a tear in my Eye! Everytime someone mentions that I get so mad because there simply ain't one! Bioware! I'm looking at you!!!!

THQ is making it. The same company that makes the 40k Dawn of War RTS series.
MMOs Played: EQ 1&2, DAoC, SWG, Planetside, WoW, GW, CoX, DDO, EVE, Vanguard, TR
Playing: WAR
Awaiting 40k Online and wishing for Battletech Online
Paul Barnett would make a fantastic children's TV presenter. He was probably the major factor in making me stop following the development of WAR.
I have played Warhammer Fantasy Battle for 15 years now (on and off), and I cant bring myself to follow this game with any intrest because of him.
I also have some minor lore issues with the game...
