As can be read on the FoM site:

It saddens us to inform you that our publisher, Ojom has decided to cease operation and support for Face of Mankind. According to Ojom this has become necessary after a review of the project.

This means that, as of now, you can't buy new subscriptions for Face of Mankind anymore. Currently running subscriptions will be extended to end of November.

At the moment we are planning the future of FoM and will release a statement soon. If you are interested in Face of Mankind please keep reading fomportal.com to stay up to date with the developments.

Yours sincerely,

Shame. But it was needed. The game was really dying. Now mabe they will work on it without having to update and running a live game.

About time. Well, one more POS to be removed from this site, now.

I wouldn't call it a PoS... back in beta there were some good times to be had, times I still look back fondly on.  It's a shame they didn't do better, but they were running on life support.

  • oobeoobe Member UncommonPosts: 60

Yeah I had quite a bit of fun too during the beta. Didn't stay long afterwards tho as most of my online friends went on to other mmo's. FoM had great potentional but without enough cash for game upgrades/expansions it got boring fast.

I played in beta, too. At that time, it had a chance. After release, that all changed. So, beta was not a POS. The "game" FoM became afterwards is a POS.

If there were different devs, who understood that there has to be some kind of content in even a sandbox style game, it might have turned out differently.

They just barely announced a trial. When they realized the negative backlash they were getting from even their own players regarding the fact that a trial of the current game would lose more potential customers than just relying on people paying for a month on a blind basis, they decide to shut down.

This game always had "potential" ( the most dreaded word in mmo history anymore ), but without the right devs to realize it, it was doomed.

This is what happens when people dont properly roleplay on an MMO which had MASSIVE potential to be that kind of game. I played this game for about two days before I realized it was fugly.

Using "lol" in game, not logging in, and speaking a language other than English are all prime examples of bad roleplaying. Thats what killed this game.

    Truer words were never spoken.

    "Not logging in" kills games.

*sniff* I was one of the "first" beta testers too.

It wasnt the player base that got it.
The Devs made all the wrong choices, left and right.

Oh well. Lets see if they can pull FoM2 out of there.. hats.. someday.

Wow, way to butcher the official press release.  Please go to fomportal.com to read it in full.

Basically they are rebuilding the game, steamlining it, making free and premium accounts, amongst other things.  This game is not dead.

I hope everyone realizes Fom has about 2? people who work on it... There was a point in Beta when the game went down for months (its two people or so, its not going to change/update fast)

this is like a whole renovation, how long do you think thats going to take? -during that time once the game goes MIA for reworking, id say its as a good as dead until they bring it back up-

FoM beta was the best time I have ever had in an MMO. Back then, this game really did have a chance to be a huge success. The player run society was amazing, and the role play possibilities were endless.

The problems all came after launch... I didn't play the first few months after launch, and when I finally joined FoM, I was shocked at what had happened to the game. I was thinking I would be able to hop in the game and assume the role of an LED officer as I did in beta and work to help police the community. But what I found was things like home bases had restricted access to large parts of the game world, no more role playing, no sense of a command structure like there was in beta (at least for the LED), and the game just totally lost its feel.

If the devs really want to give the game a second chance... they really need to revert back to the way the game was durring beta. Beta was a blast... and going back to the way the game was back then is the only chance this game has to ever be successful. Free accounts won't hurt either...

Its kinda sad another mmo goes under but in all honesty im not too surprised. The game was kind of annoying and not easy to learn in beta.

Not easy to learn  = much more rewarding once you do

not easy to learn = people get fustrated and spend less than 5 minutes in game.

I really liked FoM but i always thought the best thing they could do would be to make it F2P with a cash shop, or a premium areas somthing like that. The game was far to sandboxy and niche for enough people to pay a monthly fee for it, but i do belive as a F2P model people would have still played just to get into the brilliant battles that where always popping off every minute.

I hope they bring it back as a F2P model, it had a hell of alot of people playing throughout the BETA phase of the game, if they had just made a different payment plan i belive this would have turned out alot different.

Good look to the FoM team, i hope you get the game back on its feet some how.

No, too bad for a POS game that disappears. Sorry, but having less than 30 players in your total subscriber base does not entitle elitism.

Good luck with the next game you play, this one is toast.

    { Mod Edit }

I don't want to play with people who really think FoM is too hard to learn. They have to be literally retarded to not be able to understand. I want my gameplay to be challenging, I want my gameplay to be rewarding. I got both from FoM. I've never once gotten either from another MMO.

No surprise here, the game really sucked.

This will be my first ever post on this site but I felt I kinda had to.  I played the beta and actually really liked the game; however I never felt it was worth cash.  So, as soon as they went to pay-to-play I stopped playing the game.  I really found this game entertaining and enjoyable.  There were some nice ideas to this game.  However I found that as a "soldier" on the server there really was very little to do during the beta.  All I really did to make money was to take on these "drill" missions if you will where me and several other soldiers just stood in line at various parts of places.  We never did accomplished anything; which was disapointing.  None the less I still logged in each day and played regardless up until they went pay-to-play.  If they had only did what silkroad-online or other free-to-play mmo's did I would still be playing to this day.  Shame really.

Early to Mid-Beta this game was the best sandbox MMORPG ever produced PERIOD!  All down the great society and userbase we had back then.

Leading up to release and post-release this was a different game altogether.  Such a shame.

    ECD FOREVER! :)
