I am looking for a mmo that requires thought.  Fantasy or history preffered, but im starved for thinking.

I say go with EVE..... a very cerebral game....     (and has a free trial)

Definitly Eve-Online. Its a game where you can progress by just buying and selling stuff on the market without even running around. Even Pvp is won by the one who thought well of how to counter his enemy before the real fighting even started.

If you want a MMORPG (note the RPG) I'd say EVE. However, MMORTS games probably require more thought. I'd say, try EVE, just don't expect to be good at it (or even understanding it) during the trial. EVE gets better the more you play it (at least that's why they say)

Let us know when you made your decision, because I'm sure the are more among us who're looking for the same thing.

This game eve sound interesting and must be good with all the raves, but a space based game isnt what I'm looking for. Anything similar in an ancient history , fantasy, or sports.

I would like something in 3D but doesnt have to have awesome graphics.

Someting like civilization with many players would be cool.

Thanks for all the great input!

There is a good-looking mmorts coming out in Q1 2008, take a look at Dawn Of Fantasy. Or try Saga, looks quite good to, and is in beta atm.

BTW, i think EVE is the only MMORPG with some thinking after it. Maybe that's something MMORPG developers should pay attention at, there are plenty of grindfests out there, but as good as none 'think' MMORPG's.

If graphics aren't a big deal to you, indie game A Tale in the Desert is a big thinking game.  There are a lot of scientific or artistic "puzzles"; players can mess with the genetics of flowers or grapes, craft wines, make lightshows, make blown glass or coal, etc.  There was also an in-depth political system including demi-pharaoh elections, player-made laws, and more.

I heard great things about Uru, the Myst game.  I tried the demo and found it to be true to the Myst-style of Adventure games if that's your thing.  It's not a fantasy setting, the way one would imagine, but it's got a lot to revel in and get lost in.  Sadly, Uru is ending soon, but for thinking games ~ I'd try it out.

Anarchy Online is pretty deep, too.  Only MMO where some ppl may spend days with either paper, pencil, and calculator; or spreadsheet figuring out how they will 'twink' their chars.  But it's also Sci-Fi based, so probably not what you are looking for.

IMO that comment about AO makes it a ridiculous stat min-maxing game rather than a true thinker. Spending hours with a calculator doesnt make it intelligent, just dull.

Saga looks very good.  I have never played this type of game.  Does the player with the deepest pocket book win or is there a limit to what you can attain through purchase.
