Age of Conan - Status Interview - Part 1 - With Gaute Godager - Exclusive Must Look Screens!

AmazingAveryAmazingAvery Age of Conan AdvocateMember UncommonPosts: 7,188

Over at IGN: http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/832/832097p1.html

3 Pages long and a very good read

Includes these 3 exclusive screen shots:

Excuse me but I have to point out the obvious detail on the floor, the buildings and even the guy with a climbing rope - who said this game was bland?

in the middle of a spell cast ^

First show of a BIG SNAKE at action angle

Anyway read the interview, Gaute is the man in charge (Team Leader)

"- Having to direct every melee attack themselves, relying on skill and gut more than automated combat.

- The sheer brutality of it all. This is a mature title. Heads and limbs go flying as you wade through your enemies.

- The lush, dark and detailed graphical representation of earth 12,000 years ago as Robert E. Howard, the author of the Conan universe envisioned it."

Enjoy! what do you think?

This game is really looking good.  These screenshots are making me salivate.

I really like the first picture, the trees in the background and the sky look like a painted watercolour. I like the depth and the atmosphere. The textures on the snake are well done too, as with the rogue attacking it, the stitching on his legs to boots look awesome!

The middle guy I presume is a Frost Giant but I wonder what class the guy just starting his spell cast is?

Looks like there are leaves encircling his arms... or some other form of vegetation.

I have a feeling Funcom is going to blow us away with this game. I hope I'm not wrong.

It certainly looks different in alot of ways, and reads like it will play different too, especially melee class and Range.

Well, MANY of my fondest years of gaming were granted to me by Funcom, via pre-SL AO. If anyone can make the "one game to rule them all", I think these guys are up to the task.

I mean, AO has more depth and content than most of these mass-produced wow-clone trash MMOS we're being fed today could hope to have.

I was kind of skeptical when I first head about this game, just because I'm not much of a fantasy game player, and the IP was kind of an odd choice, I thought. But the more I see and hear, the more I'm anticipating this title.

I absolutely love the pictures.  This is thee game I'm looking forward to for 2008.  The thing that is boring me with the "exclusive interviews" from Funcom is that they all cover the same exact things.  Unless you've been living under a rock for some time, I don't think there are too many that visit ign.com that have not heard of AoC.  Yet article after article reads for new comers to the MMOG that have never heard of AoC.  They keep saying they have so much to share, but all the articles read the same.  Give us some new meat chew on with each interview please!

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

This is shaping up to be a top notch MMO. This should be the standard that other developers should strive to achieve.

First picure for me is pure art with a lot of details and futures we havent seen in any mmorpg. I can't immagine how much work Funcom put in development this title. It'll be something new and fresh in mmorpg market and I think They'll suprise us in all aspects.

I really can't wait to touch this game and enjoy it.

It looks good , but my only fear is that it needs a top pc to be able to run like the screens up there.

But i gess you could always lower the GFX, to be tweaked for your pc.

    Playing: World of Warcraft.
Played: Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies.
Tried: Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.

I would love to try a demo of this game. I really have a hard time buying how great the combat system is or will be unless we get to try it out ourselves. A demo with 1 fighter 1 healer and 1 caster to allow you to get a feel for the combat system would be rather fun. unpractical maybe.  Just my 2cents.

Best bet would be to wait for open beta next year. Most games have a trial at some point after release Lord of the Rings being the latest high profile one. A proper trial probably wont be at least  5/6 months after release.

Wouldn't you want to try the Ranger in your trial? The ability to go 1st person mode looks awesome for picking of the bad guys!

New stuff would be great, but its nice to re cap every few months.

I expect some more big updates on Crafting / Sieging and such like before Xmas.
