just kinda wondering whats least played and why. also, which classes are really the solo masters? basically if you have a link to like strengths and weaknesses of classes that'd be awesome and also if you could comment on what is least played I'd be interested also. trying to come back into the game and really can't remember a thing lol

Burglars are definately the least played, followed by captains.
Loremasters used to be low pop,but are having a resurgance after the last book likely due to FotM-ness.
All the classes can solo well, though minstrels and guardians kill slowly.
The AOE classes are loremasters (especially with aoe traits) and champs, both of which are great for grinding, and help a lot with the high level deeds.
On my server the populations are pretty damned balanced with Guardians, Loremasters and Champs sitting at about 25% of the players per each class. The last 25% is evenly split between the remaining classes.
Personally Im a hunter. Pretty rare these days but thats not to say I'm weak. I may not be able to heal myself through a skill but heck, I'm a historian, I just make potions hehe. If I were to pick a class just for its Solo skills Id pick a LM. Nothing gets close to a LM unless they really want it to. They are the masters of crowd control and they can heal to boot. Guardians arent far behind since there so damned defensive its hard to kill one. I guess Burglars are damned powerful soloists to. They tend to rely on tricks though. All skill in that class hehe. You either rock or you dont
Makes me wonder why Im a hunter hehe, for some reason I just like the way it feels...
Wow, that's nuts. On my servers I'd say something like 40% of the players are hunters (I play one too). I never would have guessed it varies so much from one server to the next.
On my server I'd say Hunter are far and away the most popular, with Champs and Gaurdians being next most popular, and and with burglers being the least popular. Captains were really popular around launch, now it seems like I bareley ever see one.
Oh yeah, and Loremasters are the coming up in popn fast on my server as well. However, a lot of the ones I'm seeing are too high level to be recent re-rolls. I think a lot of players that got frustrated with the class at some point near luanch have dusted off their toons.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Hunters are (or at least were... last patch caused a bit of ruckus with them) the most popular on my server as well. At least that's what I see the most of anyway. Each group I join usually has a couple. (This is for Elendilmir Server. However, others from my server may disagree).
Right now just using my own observations... nothing statistical about it whatsoever... I'd break it down like this:
Hunters ............. 30%
Champions ..... 20%
LoreMasters ..... 10-15%
Minstrels ............ 10-15%
Guardians.......... 10-15%
Captains ............ 5-10%
Burglars ............. 5-10%
Hunters and champions are by far the most popular on the Eledilmihr server. Guardians are next, followed by LMs and Minstrels, though I haven't seen a minstrel for a while, actually. Captains come next, with burglers at the bottom. I haven't seen a burgler around in over a month. But perhaps I'm just not in the right areas, but that's the way it seems the classes break down.
Champs and hunters are dps kings, so that's why they're played alot. People like to kills stuff fast, so they go with those classes. Guardians are next probably because they are the tank. Tanks are always needed, and you follow with LMs and minstrels because that makes up your CC and healing. There's the classic trinity. Now burgs and captains are sort of unique to LOTRO (but not in every respect). They require more a more active play style than the others I think, though LM gets pretty complicated too, and Tanks can be pretty busy. This is not to say any class requires less skill than any other, it's just in my experience, some classes move around more and need to be focused on their skill timing more because of tiered skills.
So, with the captains and burgs, you can be all over the place in a fellowship, tactics switch from moment to moment. They're also less known class styles in MMOs in general, so logically less played.

Minstrels can solo pretty good now. We got some skills in the last update that give us some decent DPS in exchange for cutting all our healing in half. half your ability to heal is still more than enough to heal yourself, and the new skills let me have a big damage attack ready just about all the time, including a good dot that lasts the whole life of the mob, and a high damage AOE. Right now it seems too good to be true... I'm sure they'll hit us with the nerf bat as soon as we get used to the new skills.

I have to say loremaster is very fun class if you enjoy to kite and use different abilities versus different mobs. Captains are interesting as well.
REALITY CHECK
I wager Dragonace has it right in the population area.
Torrential
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Last official pole taken, stated that 40% of the gaming community (all characters) are hunters. That isn't that suprising since there are so many legolasses and legola5 ect. And since almost everyone I know has some lowb hunter on their account, totally backs those numbers up. There are significantly less actual active players as hunters than the number supports (despite being on a 5 hunter team a few times).
I have a level 50 guardian, and it can solo fellowship quests, but it is a bit slow. Watch out for champions, they rock for about 25 levels, then end up very disappointing in the solo department. And captains or "craptians" need a fellowship to fully shine, lack a little solo, but are now much petter since the latest boost to their class.
LM's, burgs, and guards can do just about anything on their own.
