Did you notice something really funny about HG:L? No pre-release advert campaign..
Funny, did I not see HGL featured on the cover of computer gaming world two times prior to it's release?
Okay, assuming CGW is not corrupt to the core - don't forget that the makers of hellgate london flashed the "I worked for blizzard' card every chance they got.
An advertising budget it not needed when you say you worked for Blizzard. It's not the quality of HGL that has drawn people - it is the fact that ex-Blizzard-Employees made the game. I beg you to claim otherwise.
Not just Ex-Blizzard employees. Flagship Studios is founded by two of the 3 co-founders of Condor games which was the original creator of Diablo. Condor games was bought right before Diablo was released. These are the Diablo guys not anyone at Blizzard.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
If you're gonna have it listed on bloody www.mmorpg.com then PLEASE AT LEAST TREAT IT AS AN MMO, IF NOT THERE IS NO REASON TO HAVE IT ON THE DAMN GAME LIST!

There are some aspects of an MMO in HG:L like common areas. But until they add the Auction House and get the chat function working better, I wouldn't call HG:L an MMO in its present state. That being said I'm betting most of the posters here are have played MMO's a lot in the past. So the game is popular with MMORPG posters. The staff here said they added the game to the games list because of its popularity. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not on the forums page and its about as much of an MMO as Guild Wars, especially when the multi-player and PvP are more developed.
Edit: I stand corrected HG:L is on the main forum page.
The game blows.. Look at the reviews alone on this game. You all who support it are just looking for an excuse as to why you just blew $50.00 bucks, and want to believe there is something more out there than the MMO's youve been playing. Unfortunately, you will cancel and go back to what you were playing before until something else new comes out and you blow your money again.. and again.. and again. The cycle repeats itself... And youll rant and rave some more after this.......but you know what Im talking about..
The game shines. Look at the reviews done on this game. You all who trash it are just jealous, look ing for an excuse to belittle the fun we are enjoying with just $50.00, and want to believe that there is something else better value for money for $50.00. Unfortunately you will eventually give up and join the ranks of the happy gamers in HG:L. The cycle repeats itself. ...
And you will rant and rave more after this, ... but you know you are already on the way to the shop since you know there is finally a copy left for you to buy.
See? Your empty pointless rant can be totally rewritten and reversed. You can also post your stupid little rant in any forum. Fact is, you did not even mention the name of the game you are trying to trash. Are you talking about pacman online?
I bought HG:L and I've been playing it over the weekend. I honestly don't see myself being an active subscriber and paying money monthly for any of the features found in this game. If I could play it like Diablo 2 where I can come and go as I please then sure, it will hold some of my interest. As it is now Flagship Studios will not get any more money from me. The social aspect has been poorly implemented IMO. I've messaged a few friends, and then called them 10 minutes later asking them if they got the message and they responded with "how do I get the chat window opened?". The same reason I don't play Guild Wars is why I don't see myself lasting long with this game. It segregates you from the rest of the people. As you're fighting away you don't see random people come along and maybe help you out of a jam or join you just because they happen to be there. Too much isolation. I also think they could have made the combat a bit more involved. I play a blademaster and there's not much to it. Maybe a bit more complexity.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
It seems alot of people are complaining on some basic issues like the chat etc. All these issues will probably be fixed. I play with my friends and mostly played duo with my friend on vent for all 5 acts and it was great fun. I didn't think diablo 2 was very good playing single either and in D2 you can only chat with the people ingame aswell so a missing global chat in HGL doesnt affect me much.
For people who thinks its repetative I think you should compare it to diablo and diablo 2 and in comparison its not more repetative than any of those games.
However the game feels slightly unpolishied and im guessing also this will be addressed in a patch soon to come. Also the uniques are a bit anonymous, I had several unqiues that just aint very special at all. But im guessing EA pushed for a to early release and im guessing flagship are aware that the game not polished enough^^ I just hope EA don't ruin what HGL can become:(
Let me say one thing, the game is very good in the things it offer: grind and customization.
I had been in the beta and I love the artistic work of the characters and the design of some quest, it dont happens the same with a lot of repetitive scenarios.
But theres on thing that surprise me to see in a MMORPG forum, and its the great number of people who likes the diablo type of game; in general, I thought that for the big mayority of fans of the MMORPGs thats two characterists: grind, grind an more grind and the eternal search for the perfect outfit, were characteristics that anybody wanted for a really good MMORPG, I am wrong?
PD: if some of you still like, very good, single-player, RPG experiences, try The Witcher; well, it comes from a little polish studio, the publisher is Atari, you know, not the hype or the sales of another titles, but it gives the goods fellings of the old classic RPG.
I'm no rocket scientist, but if they can't figure out how to open the chat window, or take 3 seconds and RTFM, do you really want to be talking to them in the first place?
I feel horrible that I convinced my friend to purchase this game - when I am in fact planning to stop playing it. Hellgate london has alot going for it - the graphics are phenomenal, the weapon types are unique. However, what I thought would be a groundbreaking game turned out to be another endless diablo grind. Players will likely leave HGL to go play Diablo II, which did a better job at what HGL attempts. The lack of social interaction is only amplified by the fact that the chat window is hidden, and there are no chat boxes above characters. Every area is instanced, which makes the game not quite an MMO. However, the game borrows from MMORPGs a very weighty grinding treadmill. The possibility for grinding is absolutely endless, considering the rarity of certain level 50 items. Without PVP, there will be little respite from endless instances. It comes as no surprise that HGL borrows heavily from WoW. The item colors (green, blue, orange), the quest exclamation points (the game is very quest heavy), and the fact that you level influences several combat factors that skillspoints and attributes should. There is an unpolished feel about the game. You can't open your inventory and your chat window at once - the chat window will stay on top and not allow you to mess with your inventory. The chat window also blocks quest text. The special effects are silly and somewhat overdone - it's hard to tell exactly what is going on in a battle, instead you just shoot and hope that the numbers are on your side. Technical difficultues are frustrating. My engineer friend found that the guns on his drones kept disappearing when he logged off. As a summoner, my main pet would become unsummonable - which is especially frustrating when you enter an area and find that enemies are beating on your character while the game is loading (they are placed at area entrances sometimes). One storyline quest is bugged for many players. On the night of release, the servers and HGL website were down for 5 hours. These factors paint a poor picture of FSS's ability to polish a game. The lack of innovation would not bug me so much if the gameplay at least felt good. However, the control scheme feels very WOWish, in a non-WOW game. The firing effects of the weapons are often just annoying. The game does not have very convincing physics.
This game has given me a serious headache. I tried so hard to justify it's problems - but have come to realize that Flagship studios intends to act like Blizzard -but without the polish.
I can't disagree with anything you said about HG, yet it's still fun but I have this fear that I'll burn out on it fairly quickly due to the sameness of the environments and the repetitive combat. Also, now when I see a nice item drop, I used to say "Wow!". Now I say "Oh, another blue".
The thing that bothers me the most, oddly enough, is that the drops are too frequent and plentiful. I feel like the guy in the Twilight Zone where he dies and goes to heaven, where he spends eternity playing slot machines and always winning.
I'm no rocket scientist, but if they can't figure out how to open the chat window, or take 3 seconds and RTFM, do you really want to be talking to them in the first place?
If they can't make a chat window that everyone can use, do you really want to pay them extra for guild tools?
put the chat window in a open space or do what like wow does and when u scroll over the area it reappears but yeah they do need to do something about this problem or ppl with just end up soloing most of the game and not chat to any1 :P

We're comparing it to an MMORPG because it will stand no chance if compared to an FPS :P. At least MMORPGs get a chance to have shitty gameplay, etc.

I guess the missing guy was the netcoder then.
Or perhaps he was the guy who said "lets give the gamers value for money".
I
i tried it at my friends housee, i must admit, was pretty dissapointed.
but then, i am the type that enjoys friends guildmates and as much social interaction as possible

I was disappointed from the Beta and the Demo aswell.
Not saying its a bad game or anything, I just did not enjoy it at all.
Though I do see ALOT of people enjoying it, but I sometimes wonder how a game like HG:L can last longer than max a month.

I had look, and they are not so good:

but, who cares about reviews?

As short as the demo was, it was long enough to bore me
