If you look through the rating comments, there is a sizable number of people who are giving HGL an extremely low rating just because they don't think it's a MMORPG.
There are plenty of games on this website that are equally qualified to be called a MMORPG as HGL. That's not a reason to give it a bad score.

It is just their opinion though, and the score means nothing. Also, you can not complain on them if they rated the other games you are talking about just as low. If they rated those high and this low, then you have an argument.
I could be wrong here, but most people hate being told what to do. While it is admirable what you are trying to get across, but I have a feeling the way you worded it may back fire. You are right, the game isn't a bad game. I also agree with the developers of Hellgate when they say that the game isn't a MMORPG. As such, a lot of folks on these forums feel it shouldn't even be listed.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Heh, I guess you're right. I probably just gave more people the idea to rate it poorly. Oh, well. True that it doesn't really matter. It just bothers me sometimes to see what people do.
Every single game listed on this website was developed with a lot of blood, sweat and tears. I don't like it when any get disrespected for undeserved reasons.
Well, instead of most gamers celebrating their hobby, they'd rather see games fail. People just don't appreciate games anymore. They take them for granted. As a result, it is easy to tear down the hard work others have done over silly things like genre labels. Ah well. It's like speaking to a brick wall....
Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck.
Anyway, for me HG is fine as a MMO, I can do quests with my friends, chat globaly, be in common areas... the only thing different is that you dont run in yahoos while out slaying mobs. I have morte of a sense that what I'm going is unique and there arent 200 people in the same place doing the same thing. HG is a lot of fun... more than I've had playing in an MMO in a long time.
It's childish, immature, and exceedingly lame, yet there's nothing we can do about it. What we can do is be content in the fact that despite the annoying number of closed minded idiots who gave this game a one because it wasn't an MMO, enough people still gave it good enough ratings to be above 8 overall. I think that says a lot about the game.
For those who refuse to give it a shot because it "isn't an MMO", all I can say is it is their loss. Their stubborn and closed minded attitudes only shut themselves out of a game they might otherwise enjoy. It's easy to hate these people, but we should really feel a bit sorry for them.
I am still debating whether I should go pick up the copy my friend reserve for me in his shop. All his copies were sold within 2 hours and he has a long list of orders on hand. He kept one last copy for me, and urged me to join him online. I am still hesitant.
You have to remember that a lot of ratings on this site are made by people who have never even read a review of the game and maybe read one blurb and go post ignorant comments.
One reason the rating system means jack on this site.
Yeah played a lot MMO's over the last few years, to be honest, if you class guild wars, DDO as MMO's then hellgate is as much an MMO as either, however I don't care what its classed as , it's a load of fun and to thats all that matters

Eh, if you can afford the $50, then I say go for it. You can play it without a monthly fee, so why not. If you don't log on for a month..you don't have to feel like you were wasting money, and you can play it single player too.
I'm having fun enough with it. It's going to amuse me for a month or two at least.
D.
HGL is not mmorpg, more like diablo2 multiplay.
But who cares. as long u like the game.
To daelnor, thank you for your advice. I am not worried about $50. I make enough mistakes buying some crappy games. The point is, I somehow lost the impulse to drive out to the shop and buy it.
I spent at least a night with that friend who owned the shop, drinking chatting or just whatever social functions going around among our friends. If only I want it, he will bring it over. I feel somehow a lacking in desire to install another game and play. I am really enjoying the barbeque every evening, mall strolling with a friend's 20-month old. Or just sitting in the park watching the pool of water. Or just sleeping early. I actually enjoy writing here than clicking on any of the game icons on the desktop. I just let all subscriptions expire.
Well I might pick it up this weekend.
If people buy a game because they are looking for an MMO and it is advertised as one but isn't really then they should be able to complain without being moaned at.
If a game is described as being pirate themed and there is one pirate in it you would also complain.
I like the game but MMO is it not. DDO and Guildwars are more so imo if not completely because at least in the common areas there are loads of people knocking about.
I think the most people i have seen in any one station at the same time as me is 5. On DDO and Guildwards it must have been above 100.
I suppose its harsh to say omg shite game but if they don't provide what is implied then i guess it is shite to them and they have paid to be able to say so.
no, you are right, but the fact that it is a terrible game, does.
For those who are still thinking of purchasing the game, Amazon.com has it now $40.
Nooo we're losing a gamer to the real world! Come back to us before it's too late!
Any game that has single-player mode as an option after launching the game is not a MMORPG. Its a single player game with multiplayer/subscription options.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
